  2. if you look at the position in the draft in the first and second round AND the number of picks we have had it is even worse. these were the once in a decade slots in the draft that you HAVE to hit on. if you don't get elite players you have to at least get above average starters out of this. poles has failed in every aspect of drafting talent. williams was a no brainer although that draft class it seems you couldn't miss if you wanted to. hopefully we didn't pick the wrong one again. the FA list is dismal. tj moore is the best out of the entire lot of them and he came in the trade from carolina. byard the safety is a good player also. sweat although good is in my opinion a #2 DE. so who else? another comment on our draft... the top picks in rounds 1 & 2 were for basically the same position, receivers. we already had an abundance of receivers. how many do you need on the field? they all can't be the target especially when they are on the sidelines. so how can that possibly be a good choice for us as draft picks?
  3. Today
  4. I definitely see promise of a top QB in Caleb. He isnt just talented - he has shown many throws in rhythm - he just needs to be more consistent. i think he will get there, and a lot of us will be very happy when he does.
  5. Bad drafting. When you can't draft, you overpay guys like Grady Jarrett and Dayo Odangbo in free agency, or trade for Montez Sweat and Chase Claypool and freak up your cap space for the eventual next GM who comes in to take over.
  6. I think Warren will finally give the Bears a Stadium we can be proud of, instead of the poorly designed rehab of Soldier Field, which has been an embarrassment compared to other big-market venues. Ryan Poles. (see below) I think we all agree Ben Johnson is our "Franchise" HC—the key to our eventual return to the Super Bowl. Player evaluations can be debated. I'm concerned that Caleb isn't the "Franchise" QB we need to take us to the Super Bowl. I see him as more of a "Jay Cutler" than a "Tom Brady." A QB that will amaze you with his athleticism and fill you with hope, but in the end leave you with just another disappointing year. Maybe it is just my decades of skepticism, born of the disappointments all Bear Fans have experienced. We have some damn good players. We also have some that are overpaid and need to be replaced. By the end of the season, after Johnson completes his first season as HC, we should have a much better grasp of our roster's strengths and weaknesses. This is where we have to decide if Poles is the "Franchise" GM we need to take us to the Super Bowl. Can he get rid of the players who aren't performing and replace them with quality starters? He's made some outstanding moves. He has also failed miserably with some of his others, especially the Draft. Again, we will have a clearer picture by the end of the season. The question is: If we feel we need to move on from Poles, is it even possible with the extension he just received? If ownership took the financial loss of releasing Poles, I believe Cunningham would be an ideal replacement. He has years of experience with this team and has a working relationship with Johnson. It would be "passing the torch" vs. hiring an outsider who has to learn which foods to avoid in the Bears cafeteria buffet line.
  7. I wish I knew what the issue with the Bears was. The curse seems to follow gms, coaches, QBs from regime to regime. Drafts never go how we envision and FA seems like a lot of hope our signees rebound to previous form or become a late blossoming star. Are we only one good draft away? Look at this last draft class and who is making us better now? This team is basically what it will be a year from now besides Loveland taking form, so the guys we watch now need improve on playing mistake free since that has been the biggest success killer. Id like to see Caleb get more accustomed to this offense over these next 4 games and become a general. Watching Manning and Rodgers command the offense and know what to do every snap is what we envisioned with him. He can get there, but needs to trust his team and not just Rome and his running sideline throw.
  8. Yesterday
  9. We are not going to be a good team until we clean up the penalties. We have no control over bad ref calls and they are real. Every time we had some consistency, a penalty killed a drive, took us out of the red zone and threw off any continuity we had obtained. Gave them life and allowed them to move down the field. We had two DL go down early in the game so that affected how our defense performed later in the game. We were fairly effective in the run game but let Caleb do to much. With all the potential he has, he makes to many mistakes. Saying all this, we were in the game at the end. We have to play to perfect to win these type of games. Caleb is suppose to be the unicorn that raises the players around him and he keeps coming up short.
  10. Yes, lots, play to play, but not with enough consistency. He is showing flashes all over the place, but we need to keep the chains moving. Hes not inept, hes just not consistent enough yet.
  11. I think that while this team is frustrating right now, they are very different from the other inept teams weve had here over the last 30 years. We show flashes of dominance. And we show that we change week to week. The running game was broken, then we fixed it. The defense was bad against the run, then got better. We see examples of Caleb getting the ball out in rhythm, and led the league in big plays. What I see is a frustrating lack of consistency, not a lack of talent or ability. And I think that's what this season is for. We are not a bad team, we are an immature team. I expect growth over each 4 game spread. And next year, our window truly opens. That's how I see it anyway. Ive been called a pessimist, and probably now, a fan boy lol but what I see tells me this team is further along than most weve had over the last 30 years. I cant disagree with what Lucky said above - its fair. But I love the coaching staff now, and i think they will keep Poles in line. Its too bad that we dont have a GM that would lead and contribute, but Poles wont be allowed to screw it all up anymore - Johnson has too much juice now in the building. Bears need more discipline, and Johnson knows exactly what to do with about it. We are 4-3 and growing. Today was really hard to watch, but its not the came kind of hole we've been in. We will be OK I think in time. We just need to become a lot more consistent. But the talent is there on offense.
  12. Ah ok - well I think Fields is a good guy and a good athlete. I thought you were directing the comment to me based on the longstanding discussion of JF. If youre just rooting for the underdog - thats downright kind!
  13. Hiring bad employees is where it starts. By the grace of God the Bears got Johnson and he actually wanted to come to Chicago. At first, I thought Poles was ok, but every year, it feels like he gets worse. Winning GMs win transactions, get more draft picks right than wrong, sign FAs that contribute, and make trades that benefit the team. If you used the big board to draft the Bears players since Poles was hired, the Bears would have at least one All Pro and several Pro Bowlers. The only thing he got right was hiring Johnson.
  14. Week 8 - Maye is playing like a top 5 QB. I really did not expect him to be this good. 1. Maye - 67.5 QBR - 282 yds, 3 TD, 1 INT, 6 sacks, and 50 rushing yds. 332 Total Yards. Won. / Season QBR: 76.6, 2,026 yards, 15-3 TD-INT 2. Nix - / Season QBR: 56.2, 1556 yards, 11-4 TD-INT 3. Williams - 62.5 QBR - 285 yds, 0 TD, 1 INT, 1 Sack, and 24 rushing yds. 309 Total Yards. Lost / Season QBR: 52.9, 1636 yards, 9-4 TD-INT 4. Rattler - . Lost. / Season QBR: 55.7, 1450 yards, 8-4 TD-INT, 1 FL 5. Penix - DNP. / Season QBR: 48.1, 1409 yards, 5-3 TD-INT, 1 FL 6. Daniels - MNF. / Season QBR: 50.7, 875 yards, 7-1 TD-INT, 2 FL 7. McCarthy - Always hurt / Season QBR: 23.9 (Last in NFL), 301 yards, 2-3 TD-INT Williams on pace for 3,973 yards passing, would need to average 236 yards per game for the remainder of the season to break 4K. His TD to INT keeps dropping, he is now projected to have 22 TDs and 10 INTs. Since the DAL game, Williams has 2 Passing TDs and 3 INT in 4 games, and shockingly, 3 wins. He has looked like a completely different QB since that game though, and it feels like he is not improving anywhere. Is there anything he does "good" right now?
  15. Don’t overthink it. Just highlighting the guy who’s had a few crappy weeks lately. As a long time Bears fan I’m accustomed to root for the underdog.
  16. This was a bad game for Caleb, Johnson and the whole team. No doubt about it. Terrible.
  17. we hire an up and coming HC, the good. then we give an extension to a GM who has done less than nothing... the BAD the draft? seriously, the draft??? he could pull names out of a fish bowl wearing a blindfold with better results. we need this to start the season: DE and LT. what do we draft? every position we have a strength at. at freaking #10, a luxury TE when we have at the LEAST a competent one in kmet. we pass up 2 or 3 LT's. how many DE's? we draft high in the 2nd. our first pick... what do we get? a freaking WR? we had so many WR's we let one good one go. what do we pass up? LT's and DE's? 2nd round pick #2... we pick a RT. yea a RIGHT TACKLE. a position we just drafted in the first round a year or two ago? do we need one to draft this high? oh hell no. 2nd round pick #3... not bad enough? let's draft a DT with a broken foot who probably would have been around in the 4th-5th round. now let's look at production: loveland looks like a 5th round pick at TE. ozzie? probably will be a good player but with who? we have no need for a RT. free agents? the ONLY one that stands out is the WR tj moore. he makes the catches and makes extra yards. anyone wanting him gone is wrong in my opinion. he is the most solid player on the entire offense. now the REALLY BAD.... the owners again. they spend the money for the best coaches out there and to my complete amazement they give the guy who has given us nearly nothing an extension when they didn't need to. a guy who can't judge FA talent and doesn't have a clue on draft day. it's de'ja vu all over again. 1 step forward and 2 steps back. and while i am on it... caleb williams need to really get his shite together or we have yet another huge bust.
  18. Right, in week 8. People who are waiting to prove that JF is actually a good NFL QB are going to be disappointed. He just isnt. And not because of me. I have nothing to do with it. If youre hoping to prove me wrong, it's certainly possible! But not with this particular subject. The only reason JF even started today was because the backup got hurt. There is some weird cult of personality around Fields - probably because he is such a great runner. But hes not an NFL QB. It's not hard to make this claim at this point. It's not really an opinion?
  19. The only reason the offense had that streak of 21+ points is because of the turnovers. The sheer amount of possessions they've gotten per game allows them to score points, even though they always settle for FG's. Frankly, they should be scoring 30+ with as many takeaways as they've gotten. QB play and penalties have killed them all year.
  20. Still think the fault lies somewhere between scheming and execution. Gotta lean in Johnson’s favor (only by a sliver). He made changes to the running game during the bye and that improved dramatically after that. As far as execution goes that mostly is on Caleb. Although the play calling and not doing things like involving your #1 pick this year and less running is inexcusable.
  21. anybody see our fattie DT getting walked back like braxton jones during that run play? where does poles find these guys, in tarot cards?
  22. Was thinking earlier in the game are the Bears simply a “paper tiger” contender? Their defense hangs out near the bottom of most categories (aside from TOs), the offense ‘scores 21 in every game’ but barely win against the Raiders and the Commanders save for the last minute special teams heroics? And they barely lose against Minny early on who have since collapsed on themselves. Aside from the lopsided win against Dallas earlier, things haven’t been all that rosy.
  23. Too much bad all around. Even without the TD after the INT, the defense still allowed 23 other pts to Huntley. Not good. The offense and Williams are still playing bad. I don't know what is going on, but Loveland gets 2 catches, then 1 for the rest of the game. Swift only had 11 carries. Williams had the 2 intentional grounding penalties, the bad INT, and several other inaccurate passes.
  24. Was just gonna say the Phoenix that is Justin Fields leads the Jets to their first win.
  25. How can you start the 1st qtr so well and then not turn up the rest of the game. I thought we had moved away from poor coaching, but it didn't look like that tonight.
