Week 2 Official Game Thread - MIN @ CHI 9/20, 12PM CDT, CHI -4.5 O/U 48.5, FOX
The MIN defense only allowed more than 30 pts once last season. For how bad the Bears defense looked against CAR, the Bears will need to score 30 to win. Somehow MIN also scored 39 last week, so this game features the top 2 scoring teams in the NFL thru Week 1. The Bears have a clean injury report while the Vikings will be without Mason at RB, obviously Murray at QB, O'Neill, OT is questionable, and Jennings, WR is out. Ironically enough, Wentz, who will get the start, is 4-0 against the Bears in his career, 5 TD, 0 INT, but only averaged 188 yards per game. Some funny numbers for him. His last game against CHI was when he was in WAS beating the Bears in 2022 12-7 in CHI against Fields. Wentz only had 99 yards passing while Fields had 190. This is crazy, these were the QBs that Wentz faced and their Passing Yds, TD, INTs, and Sacks: Fields 190 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT, 5 Sacks Trubisky 125 yds, 0 TD, 0 INT, 3 Sacks Trubisky 147 yds, 0 TD, 2 INT, 2 Sacks Cutler 157 yds, 0 TD, 1 INT, 3 Sacks (injured) MIN only allowed 3 passers to throw for more than 250 yards against them last year. Hurts was the only one to hit 300. They did allow 200 yards rushing twice, and they were 0-4 when they allowed over 140 yards rushing. So that seems to be the key against them. Hit the right hole against the blitz and there will be no one until the 3rd level. One other note, CHI was tied with the most penalties with 12, and MIN was 31st with only 3. That is a massive disparity, and even if that corrects slightly to the mean, that should project to be about 9 for CHI and 5 for MIN. I am hoping that is closer to even. With all of that said, I am trusting the most elite unit out of the Bears and Vikings Offense and Defense. The Vikings' defense allowed 22, which pales in comparison to an offense scoring 59. So I am taking the Bears at home 27-23 in one of those close ones that will come down to the wire. I feel like Loveland will have his breakout game with the MIN blitz.

Hope the coach is right, hate seeing high talent like this struggle. There is being in great shape and being in great game shape, so hope both JJ and TS find that great game shape soon. You have to fail to succeed, so hope they recognize where they failed

It's possible; they noted in the article about our Week 2 injury report that Trapilo had been removed completely from the listing. That has to be a good sign of progress. I just pray he doesn't regress when brought back online after such a long absence.

It's strange with Johnson and Stevenson. Ben talked about both of them having great training camps and under performing against the Panthers. He and they are expecting more production this Sunday.

exactly, and maybe this week or next week Trapilo will get some possessions too.

After last weekend, I barely trust Stevenson. Kid has the physical talent but is missing parts to be a good starter. Thought he would adapt.

I’d feel better with Muhammed outside instead of Tyrique.

All hands on deck, every player off the injury designations, full practice, and suiting up for Sunday. I wonder if this means Woods will be at Safety, putting Lewis back to Nickel? That would free up Malik M. to play outside opposite Johnson, putting Stevenson to rotate when needed.

Swift Extended, 3 Years, $33.75M
So I guess Swift was mic'd up for the Panthers game - this is a fun watch. Good to see how he is with his teammates and Caleb too. But the thing that impressed me maybe the most was his pass protection blocking. You can tell he is 100% selling himself out to get that block. The hard running is great, and the hands, but I believe this tenacious blocking really helped the Bears get to the place where they felt good extending him. And this was AFTER he got paid. Lets go! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uq8ZeEfNuVo Kyler Gordon, you watching?

I love it. One of the players yelled, "we need it". I think he should hand it off to the game ball recipients or assistant coaches.

I can see Caleb dumping a pass to a TE over the line to the vacated space in the middle. I cant wait.

Anyone see the locker room speech given by Ben Johnson? He finished with game balls and said that's it, the team started asking him to do the Good, Better, Best. He played them like it was last year's thing, but those players wanted it. He has them all bought in. He understands how their minds work, how the game works, and is a wizard that we are lucky to have. This team will only go as far as him because he got Caleb turned into a beast, an offense with weapons galore. If he can get the defense up to just par, they can be one of NFLs best dynasties. His staff will get picked apart faster than Declan Doyle has turned Baltimore into an offensive powerhouse.

I like all the positivity from the pundits and lots of new ones around like these guys. It will be proven out that Carolina has an average defense, not terrible which gives us more creed. Minny will be tougher but still expect a score in the 30s because BJ will take advantage of open spots from blitzes. Last year, Caleb didnt take much under routes and drop offs. This year that and running will kill the Viking DL. Those fat guys are going to get tired chasing Caleb.

We still have a lot of new players on offense. It’s a long season there will be time to work that stuff in. For now they need to focus on executing the game plan. I don’t want to see Caleb check to a play only to have everyone start asking what is the check.

Division news
What’s getting in their head is a habit of losing games when they have a lead in the 4th quarter.

Caleb missed one free play opportunity last game, he needs to take advantage of those. It takes a quick mind to catch and do, so Ben needs to run those every practice.

I also heard Packer fans are talking about fire Matt Lefleur. I think Ben Johnson got in his head with that after the game handshake.

Division news
I sometimes revel in other people’s misery. On Packers wire is an article about how horrendous their Oline is and how bad their game plan was against Minnesota. It’s also easy to find articles and videos talking about firing the Panthers DC. I’m ready for week 2

I agree. The only positive that comes out of that is that for the rest of the year whenever we line up on 4th and short the defense knows it’s likely for real. We now have a QB with a good hard count so we should get some free first downs as the season plays out.

Agree. And while Braxton Jones did get walked back into the QB a few times from a bull rush, he was more effective in the run game than I had seen from him before. So, good for both of them Id say.

Bears vs Philly game - Monday night
The only time I have been to NYC was on my senior class trip in 1970. Our bus pulled up to the hotel and , when getting off, a cop chased a hooker down and arrested her right in front of the bus. I travel a lot now and NYC was a fascinating place, I need to go back. Went to a preseason game this year, other wise its been before COVID hit. At 73 its much easier to watch on TV, but nothing like crowd energy when we are playing well. I had season tickets for two years and was reminded that I was at the Chi-GB game in 1980 when we beat GB 61-7. Lots of energy at that one.
