Kyler Gordon
My assumption is Gordon wants to feel 100% before returning and probably stops the minute he feels something. Until he gets over that mental hurdle, he is going to be stuck in this loop. At this point, I don't even consider him part of the team anymore. If he comes back and contributes, cool, but I am not betting on it. Trapilo had a traumatic injury and recovery and is out there months ahead of schedule, and Gordon can suit up because of soft tissue without a surgery to recover from?

Bears Free Up Cap Space
I never understood how on one side of the coin, they say it takes time to get to know a system and your teammates (seems totally logical), but then they can trade for a player at the deadline who immediately contributes. What that tells me is individual skills still rule them all. If a guy is struggling because "he is still learning the system" then he probably is not very good to begin with.

Bears Free Up Cap Space
Like Adam said, its just getting the Cap straight for the season. There is no big surprises coming as far as talent. It will be minimum deals when maybe we have another injury adding a vet. They still have some money to gain when they make injury deals with some of the players they put on IR.

Bears Free Up Cap Space
Biggs reported in his Q&A earlier today (before these moves were made) that you should expect some moves to come and they are more about getting the cap in good order for flexibility (vs. an indication of a move coming). Doesn't mean a move won't come but its just good hygiene to make sure they have necessary flexibility to navigate during the season. If they don't use it...it just rolls over to next year anyway.

Bears Free Up Cap Space
And last year at the deadline, Ben Johnson told Poles he did not want the Bears trading picks for a DE. I assume it will be the same this year.

Bears Free Up Cap Space
If the Bears were to work out a trade, they would almost certainly need to include a player and the new player would have to get immediately restructured. To me, I think there is less of a chance something is done before the season. If anything happens, I think it would be at the trade deadline where the cap hit this year can be absorbed.

Bears Free Up Cap Space
No, they were technically "over the cap". These moves get them under by about $5M which is typically the operating window for the year.
-
Bears Free Up Cap Space
They needed 7 million for normal year operations, so that much was in the works. Adding 10 million more looks like they have a transaction or extension in the works

Multiple sources say the Bears have reworked contracts to free up $ 17 million in cap space. Does this mean a big move is about to happen?

This is great seeing multi sports stars supporting each other. Caleb, and two Bulls went out to watch PCA play baseball.

I am not sure what I must have heard, but not seeing that he has practiced. Maybe it was a siting at camp that was reported on the air?

Training camp thread
It’s time for a few days off so their bodies can recharge. So many things improved over last year heading into week one that there really is no comparison. I was surprised when Dennis Allen said Street was our most consistent DT through camp. I don’t think Allen is stretching the truth here. That also means they were able to flip 3rd DT Dexter for CB depth at a position of need plus a pick. they hid Street well and covered up Dexter’s deficiencies. Don't misconstrue that to mean Street is going to be great. I think he’ll just be the same productive player he’s been. Not as many peaks as Dexter but less valleys.

Fingers crossed neither injury is serious. Good to see Booker back. I hadn’t read anywhere that Monagai is back but saw it here - is he really back? I thought he was still week to week.

Once a player gets designated with that designation, and Yahoo catches up (sometimes a day or two later), you will have an option to select IR as one of you roster spots, freeing up a spot for another player. Once the player comes off designation, you won't be able to make any other transactions (free agent or waiver wire) until that players is moved back to one of the active spots and your roster is not over the player limit. Injuries have impacted the league so much over the years that we now have 3x IR slots, so you don't have to worry about losing a player to injury, dropping them, then losing them because of injury. The crazy part is we have had GMs lose 5-6 players and they still had to either carry them on their bench or drop them. So 3 was the sweep spot. The IR slot only works if the player carries that designation in the system.

Swift and Odunze apparently left practice early today with injuries. Swift was holding his side, and left with trainers, for Odunze it was his right leg, and he wanted to stay in bu tthe trainers took him out, so he's probably fine? No word on how serious Swift is yet, so I wouldnt jump to any conclusions just yet either.

Booker returned to practice today. A good sign that he may be ready by week one.

What are the rules regarding this league's Injured Reserve slots? I've never played in a fantasy league offering IR slots.

Kyler Gordon
As Poles and Johnson have previously stated, the locker room knows. Players that want to be part of the team outwardly show it. The way the brass is handling Gordon is warning other NFL teams. Buyer beware.

Kyler Gordon
I thought someone asked Poles and he was working out at the training camp staff? Now maybe that is just recently and why people are noticing him around but wasnt before. I never like to rag on injured players. For anyone that has played before some play with aches and pains and some dont. He has always been a team guy before but has had some nagging injures . Clearly brass in not liking the situation but he is here this year because of the cap hit to get rid of him. No one is trading for a big money player not on the field.
