There is no comparison between Caleb and Justin. Even last year with no coaching, no plan, Calebs numbers destroy anything Fields has ever done in a season by a lot. It's just true.

I do not think Kmet has ever missed a game. - Today

ffs on these injuries, Gordon out, Stevenson out, Kmet out. Swift, Booker, Santos all questionable. Gordon is soo frustrating, they already paid the guy, he has never played a full season, and now going into Game 7 of his 4th year, has missed 14 games out of 58. That is not good. Basically hurt for 25% of his career. Kmet is interesting with the trading deadline on November 4th looming. Is he being rested as a precaution?
-
This is the longest stretch in season that Jackson has missed and came back. In the two other seasons where he missed a game and came back, he didn't particularly play very well, at least on the passing side. In 2021, when he missed a week and came back, he passed for 165 yards, 1 TD, and 4 INT against the Browns. The offense scored 16 pts. In 2020, he also missed one game, and came back against DAL and passed for 107 yds, 2 TD, and 1 INT. So this time, including the bye, he will have been out of game action for 3 weeks before this game.

Looking back at the all-22, there were about 50 extra yards left on the field by mainly Swift and Monangai. It is so weird. Swift is following blockers, then out of the blue, says nah I'm good, and runs right into a defender who tackles him. Monangai did it too, where there is blocker straight ahead engaged, and he can go left or right, with no one on one side and defender on the other, he goes right to the defender who tackles him. So as much as the accuracy issues need to be addressed in the passing game, there are still more yards left on the field in the running game.

Lamar Jackson has a limited practice designation. I would say with a short week Thursday game against their division rivals Miami, he doesnt play on Sunday. I dont think they think they need him to beat us . I could be wrong. The key in this game is stopping Derrick Henry. -
Moore will have a $28M cap hit in 2026, but if they want to move on from him, it will have to be via trade. His dead money would be $35M if cut before June 1st. No way that is happening. For cut candidates from the higher priced guys, Edmunds, Kmet, Swift, and Santos are the only ones with low enough dead money if they needed to cut any of them. It seems like Santos is the only one that would fit the bill there. All the others would seem to have some trade value. If Edmunds and Swift keep playing like they do, they could be in line for extensions or restructures. Kmet may be moved at the deadline. Any further lack of involvement in the offense would seem to further lower his value. I don't even know where that is at anymore. A guy like him, with the emergence of so many younger TEs, seems like TE2/3 type of player. Kiran is a no-brainer, but they may see if anyone is willing to trade a late round pick for him as he is still young, just inexperienced.
-
He not only is playing well, but is a team leader. On X I remember people saying after the first few games that he has slowed down because of his age. I'm not sure they say that now. When you judge a player in a short window, you can't properly measure a players worth. Look at the RB position tons of people on X, (we need another RB). That narrative changes now. We have to let this season play out and see the results. If we finish 5-6 we still end up with a winning record. I would say 11 wins are our ceiling. Can we go 7-4 the rest of the year? We will find out Sunday.

Byard has been a 1st Team All Pro twice in his career. Thru 6 games, he is on pace to match and/or exceed those numbers this season: This Season 2025P - 88 Tackles, 11 INT, 14 PD, and 6 TFL All-Pro Seasons 2017 - 87 Tackles, 8 INT, 16 PD, and 3 TFL 2021 - 88 Tackles, 5 INT, 13 PD, and 1 TFL Unc is cooking.
-
A cut-and-paste from SI.com would indicate the Bears should win easily. But what is missing is Jackson and Henry. If they are both playing, it will be a challenging game to win.
-
I think most of our needs can be filled with the draft right now. Word on the streets are we covet a LB/DE from Texas Tech. I can see them extending Byard bc he will be cheaper than Brisker. Draft a safety to replace Brisker.
-
I hope Fields finds a place that use him right whether a starter or backup. I just wish him well, he's not here anymore so actually dont think about him . Caleb is the guy I rout for now. He needs to make better decisions with the ball, get rid of the ball sooner and be more accurate. I think BJ will get him where he needs to go. These hopes are not any different from the same things people complained about when Fields was here. The trait I see different with Caleb is what he has shown at the end of games. He gets us in a position to win even under the worst of odds. Not every QB in the league can do that. He needs to clean up the rest of his game. BJ came here because of Caleb and I trust him to get Caleb there.
-
Easy to look at people to move but a lot harder to do. I dont think there will be a big contract coming back if we do trade for somebody. That will just create next year cap chaos. Crosby will be paid 120 mil from 2026-29. Any contract they take on will end before we have to pay Caleb. Simmons 53 mil over the next two yrs. I think they may add a CB to help but not a big contract. I think , like the RB room, they will expect players to play better on the DL and stick pat with money. Poles set the team contracts to be done when Caleb expects to get paid in 2028. Then they will play with the rest of the roster.
-
The biggest factor is going to be the cap. In order to bring in a big contract, the Bears would have to move a big contract.
-
and BAL has one of the easiest schedules remaining after the Bears: MIA, MIN, CLE, NYJ, CIN, PIT, CIN, NE, GB, PIT, they could easily rattle off 8-9 wins in this run, and there wouldn't need to be many upsets.

Jesse Morse, MD evaluates every NFL injure every week. He said today will determine if Lamar plays this week. If he is not a full practice, he thinks they wont play him until a Thursday night game for week 9. If he does play , he will not be 100% and usually a players first game coming off an injury is below par. -

I think every team can find those plays. We definitely seem to have more. Maybe being a winning team will grant us some less obvious calls. -
I think that the season's success will determine who stays and who goes. Besides cutting players there could be restructuring of their contracts. Of course trades could come into play. I think after the season ends teams look for the draft to fill holes before they decide to trade for high price players. I also think to fill needs we will also address them in the draft. Everyone was worried about the RB room and the team stuck with their players and the problem seems to have went away. If we go 5-6 with the rest of the schedule , we end up with a winning record.(9-8). Most people on here seen that as the ceiling. I think we do a lot better than that. Does Minny look unbeatable? Anything you seen from GB telling you we arent capable of beating them. I think this team is a work in progress and we will fill some needs by our roster. We look at this team from our past problems but with BJ in the room, it is different. Can Theo become the LT? He is improving and I dont think the team is deciding at this moment in time, we need to draft a LT. They're not thinking about trading assets when we are on a 4 game winning streak. The team will be evaluated at the end of the year, not after 6 games. I see Edmunds being the most obvious cut or trade but if he keeps making plays, do you think Dennis Allen is going to say its okay to get rid of him? Zaccheaus is on a one year contract and plays the same position that Burden plays. Getting rid of Moore doesnt seem like a logical step to me. Bengals have Chase and still kept Higgins around. Jarrett is obvious but his contract has guarantees that prohibit that. Kmet will be asked to restructure since his value has lessened .before they just cut him. Someone will have to go because of our cap situation now but I think it is not decided yet. We are on the verge of becoming a playoff contender, I think we need to enjoy this season before we tear it down because of future issues.

The ting that gets my blood boiling is the lack of consistency in how this is called. Our guys get flagged for anything close to roughing. Then I see our QB repeatedly take cheap shots and get hit well after the throw and it crickets. I'm tired of swing our guy about have to be murdered to get a roughing call while our defender get flagged for breathing on their QB. -
If we win this weekend I think it's possible some more chips are going on the table for this season, maybe for someone like Maxx Crosby. Everyone that is mentioned in the above posts are all candidates who are good players but can be shuffled off the roster to make room to fill a bigger need.

Kmet to me is in a difficult 'evaluation' phase due to neither he nor Loveland have really been used much in the much ballyhooed 12 man offense that Johnson is known to deploy. Unless that is if you consider the TEs as primarily blockers...then 'yeah' maybe. Of course now with him possibly injured that complicates things more for him. I have a concern of letting him go would equate to a Greg Olsen type loss. Where he would flourish into an HOF TE when utilized properly. Moore yeah....as much as it pains me....Burden is that guy...at a much lower cost. Jarrett - no joke. Has he even played yet? Edmunds...sadly he's come on late in his career but I could see either Sewell or Hyppolite (especially) supplanting him. In reading the injury report, Edmunds is listed as "Questionable" so maybe we'll see some of Hyppolite this weekend as he's currently listed as his backup. And I'd add another for consideration. That being Swift. I'm a huge fan but I could see him doing well enough the rest of this year that he could be a valuable trade piece to a team that needs a decent RB (at least on paper). And if my theory is correct that Johnson is good at adapting to his player's strengths and continues to effectively use outside zone, then he can really plug and play a similar RB in there to get 1,000 yards.

Fields is a tremendous athlete. When he ran int he open field (before we told him to slide) he was a threat to score on any play from anywhere on the field. He reminded me of Hester that way. But Fields has never shown an ability to process and get the ball out on time. I dont believe he is a QB. Caleb is still growing, so those who say he hasnt arrived yet are correct. He needs to be a top 5 QB before anyone can say he is provably worth that overall #1 pick. To those who say "show me" I say that is completely reasonable. But Caleb has already shown a lot more than Fields ever did. Even Calebs horrible season last year was the 5th best season for a Bears QB of all time. And yes, it wasnt good enough. This year we keep seeing evidence that Caleb is getting the ball out in rhythm, and growing. I fully expect him to be a major stud. He definitely has the right teacher. But I think Fields would never be a great QB no matter who handled him, or what he was given. He just doesnt process. Caleb is on his way to greatness. Not there yet? Totally fair to say. But there is no evidence that he isnt on schedule either. I love what Im seeing from Caleb, and he will learn as defenses throw things at him, like the Saints zone blitzes this week - at least Caleb didnt bite and throw the picks. And when protection breaks down, every QB holds the ball and runs. Caleb often makes something out of that too, in Mahomes-like fashion. I wouldnt trade Caleb for any other QB from his draft right now.

So true re: Swift. I thought he was gone for sure, now that he's playing so differently than he ever did, he can play himself into being kept. And youre right that Poles and Johnson will wait for the end of the year to do formal analysis. Thats right too. But anyone casually looking at our cap can see that Moore, Kmet and Edmunds are likely to be gone. Kmet can still possibly play his way back, but hes a little too expensive.
