The New Kickoff Rules: After Further Review... They Suck!
Stinger226 replied to Lucky Luciano's topic in Bearstalk
It doesnt accomplish what the NFL wanted from the rules change. Im old fashion, my favorite player was Dick Butkus when I became a fan and loved the physicality of the game. He could not survive in todays rules. I get you need to protect the health of the players because they would make bad choices as far as taking care of themselves. So its just the game evolving and not necessary for the good the game. -
As much I understand the greed part of the human experience, you would have to have a whole ref crew in on it. If the penalty on Theo took points off the board, that meant the cartel had the points with Washington. If that was the case, they lose the bet. One individual ref can affect several plays and still not change the natural outcome of the game. A whole crew is different and odds of that are slim. That would also have to include the review office of the NFL that can overturn any challenged play. I love conspiracy theories but this one doesn't resonate with common sense. Some events like the Black Sox scandal from 1917 just doesnt happen anymore. Everyone was in on it and one guy didnt go thru with it and it was exposed. Someone may have more knowledge than me but it one ref was paid to help get a different result and it doesnt happen, money lost, and I would suspect the gamblers would be very upset with that. Since they are gamblers, they would already know the odds. It would almost be impossible to get what result you want unless the whole crew was involved and then the review office of the NFL would have to be in on it.

The New Kickoff Rules: After Further Review... They Suck!

I don't like the onside kick, as it removed the running start. The reason you are seeing monster field goals is due to the NFL letting teams break in the kicking balls. -
after watching these new kickoff rules for some time now i truly dislike them. especially in tight games with time running out the field position caused by this new rule is atrocious. it starts teams out on a drive 2 first downs from kicking 60 yard plus field goals to win (somebody riddle me this... the nfl existed for 90+ years and a 50 yard field goal was considered nearly impossible. now it's almost like an extra point.). add to that mess, it eliminates legitimate on side kicks with this nonsense. if they are worried about injuries, make a rule that all special team players have to wear those helmets that help protect against concussions. add to that if they want to make all ST players wear knee support or whatever else to limit injury. thoughts?

12th Man On The Field - Gambling Cartels
Lucky Luciano replied to Lucky Luciano's topic in Bearstalk
the only solution i can see is if CONGRESS does the same thing they did with MLB and the juicers. bring GOD elle, his cronies and a few OWNERS up before a committee under oath and ask them why the NFL can't afford to not only pay for FULL TIME refs but review these bad calls and non calls and ask why this is happening. ask what involvement gambling has in regards to the honesty and integrity of the NFL. ask why these refs are not held accountable like any other job or sport. suspensions or flat out firings. ask why the nfl itself is not asking these questions. full time employed refs should be able to figure out how to amend the rules and regulations to make calls more consistent and get rid of rules that can't be enforced in each and every game. if not they lose their jobs just like anyone else. also held accountable for any bribery by ANYONE which would result in legal repercussions for fraud and jail time. also any tax breaks or subsidies the nfl gets is subject to being removed. money talks and bullshit walks. -
Agreed on offense. Who knows on D...

I dont think there is any reinforcements coming this year. For us to be better , our own players playing better and the younger ones develop. Being we are on a 3 game winning streak and potential to win the next 5 games , I would say the problems are getting fixed from within. We have two talented TEs that BJ said himself he needs to schemed more.

What i have heard is they are using a very small sample or group of plays right now. The offense is very complex and they are taking baby steps. Every person has to know where to line up, the motions, etc. We want the 90s Rams, but have to swallow that these guys need to learn and more will be worse.

Since day one of his hire, all we've heard is how he uses two-tight-end sets more often than just about every team in the league. That was one of the justifications for drafting a TE so high. Does anyone have any idea what the figures are on the two-tight-end sets the Bears have run to date under BJ?

The entire line played great.

The Bears had their best games in terms of Rushing Success Rate in the last 20 years, and one of the best games by any team this season. It also does contrast with Swift's career as he has typically been a 47% Success Rate Rusher, slightly below the league average of 49%.

Sorta related but saw this review from Tom Thayer. Not only shows classic outside zone blocking but how well Wright did (for at least two plays). https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1bJkonrMGZ/?mibextid=wwXIfr

The accuracy is the main issue, but he didn't have accuracy issues in college, so I think it is something that can be corrected. I heard Nate Tice say something about the deep incompletion to Rome that was considered "underthrown, that it was the 2nd longest throw in the NFL this season only a half yard shorter than Mahomes hail mary attempt.

Moore is a baller if he played through that. 😁

My money is on Swift staying like this especially if the scheme stays this way. I had meant to add that Monangai also benefited from this new style play where the few times he was in the game he took some significant chunk yardage. Like I said before, if the scheme is run correctly, zone offenses can make most RBs look great. And if Monangai can do it, Swift could become expendable.

100% on both

The TEs have really underwhelmed. Kmet is having the worst year of his career (pass catching), and Loveland has barely played as a top 10 pick (which is not good). All the while Tyler Warren leads all TEs in Rec Yards.
-
I think with Swift it is the consistency. He is just not a consistent player, never has been. He has games like this once or twice a year, then 5-6 games of subpar play. That was his 8th 100 Yard Rushing game in his career (6th year). The most 100-yard games he's had in one season is 2, and in both seasons, the were in back to back games oddly enough. Also, this was the first time he had a 100-yard game without a run of 20 yards or longer, his longest was 19. He has also never had more than 2 games in a row with a YPC at 5.0 or higher. Never 3 games. It is so odd. If the Bears got this Swift weekly, you absolutely keep him, but if he reverts to his old self for the next month, then you have to move onto someone who can do it week in and week out.

If Swift keeps playing like he did this week, it's easy to say we keep him. But I've never seen him look like that before, so let's see what the rest of the season looks like. It is possible, that because Braxton Jones was not a good run blocker on the edge, we were running power gap, and Swift doesnt fit that as well. He doesnt seem to have the vision you need for that. But as soon as Benedet got in there, now the blocking assignments change, and we see Benedet and Wright out on the edge moving people, and Swift looks like a different player. It's such a team game - what looks like Swift's fault might be the scheme, which in turn might be the limitation of an OT which in turn causes the coach to call different plays. Wild to see Swift look So different. Let's hope it continues.
