I think youre making assumptions but there is no actual info yet on what we will do at LT. Im surely not saying i know anything about what they will do - the best Ive got is to look at some of the options that i am aware of. But for example, i didnt have any IDEA that we might trade for the Center from NE until it was announced, so i dont think any of us can truly know. So for Mongo to say he thinks that is totally fine - that's all any of us can do, but to take the statement from Roushar like it means we wont be looking at LT? I dunno about that. It didnt sound like a fact as much as a pat answer so as not to tip his hand. COULD we end up with Benedet at LT? Sure. But I dunno if we are at the point where we know anything for sure yet? Also I doubt highly that Trapilo could be back after 6 weeks? If you have a link Id love to read it, but my understanding is that it takes a lot longer for that heal. Of course, my medical knowledge is about the same as my understanding of automotive repair, so what the hell do i know? Only what Ive read. If you have something contrary to read, Id be happy to read it.

9th in snaps at Center, but 0 sacks and 0 penalties, and we are using PFF grades over that? Also considering how often Maye was sacked, Bradbury allowing zero is even more impressive.
-
I don't think we end up with Decker, cost is prohibited. Mongo is on to what we probably do. OL coach suggested the answer is in house. We assume Ozzy may be gone the whole season but I've heard it could just be 6 weeks. Bring Braxton Jones back, get by for 6 weeks. We have no idea what Kiran can do but maybe he is past his injury and they know more about him than we do. I think they bring back Byard but at their price. He was all pro and led the league in interceptions. Has he lost a step at his age , yes but with a better pass rush, healthy LBers and CBs, pressure won't be on him as much.. He was the D leader and is a playmaker. With Edmunds leaving we need a leader. With healthy CBs, he will be no problem.
-
There are also different offensive systems, and a player might shine in one, and be a detriment in another? I've never seen tape on him (yet! lol) so i have nothing substantive to add about the player, but I do trust Roushar and Johnson to know what they're looking at?
-
Right, heard that in the score. He is not glamorous, but im sure he can play center for the Bears until the can draft and develop. We all want these star players, but I want them to be our home grown.
-
You gotta figure between BJ and Roushar that they know what theyre doing. Also, PFF is random, and i put no faith in anything they say positive or negative. Theyre the ones that said Charles Leno was a top ten LT LOL And I dont mean they predicted that during the draft, I mean they RATED him that during those seasons where he was absolute trash for us. PFF means nothing.
-
I don't really get why they are giving up a 5th round pick here? He's a former first round pick (I believe), but other than that I don't know much about him. How are you rated 30th on PFF but give up 0 and 0. If he actually is a top 12 center than I stand correct and am fine with it, but in general, these doesn't seem like the type of player we should be giving up a 5th round pick for.
-
I was curious about this when I first heard about the trade and yup sure enough. They were college buds when they played together at NC State in 2015. Bradbury was originally selected by Minnesota in the first round of the 2019 draft.

Yuck. I sure hope this isn't their starter. Clear downgrade from Dalman.

Hes getting kinda old, so Im thinking like AZ54 is on this one - maybe he wants a ring? We arent gonna play him $20M, Id be very surprised at that, so he'd have to know that. Im just guessing here that if he was gonna stay on a team that isnt going to contend he wanted the money, but he might play cheaper for us? As for Byard, I totally agree with you Mongo, he did get exposed last year. I can see us keeping him for a year or two, but we absolutely need to get younger and faster on D, and Byard wont be here in 3 years, and possibly leaving sooner than that even.
-
He is ranked 30th on PFF. Gave up no sacks, no penalties and 20 pressures. Good friends with Joe Thuney. No sure how you rate centers on PFF but 0 and 0 are impressive. Poles always surprises us. Either they're drafting a center or expect Newman to take over in 2 yrs. AND 5.7 mil cost.
-
I havent seen any film on him yet, so Ill hold back on offering an opinion, but i do trust BJ and Rousher to make a good choice, and he will be an easy player to get under the cap with a number under $7M. Obviously Linderbaum was the cream of the crop, but he was going to be very expensive, and so I totally get this move. Im personally surprised they didnt go with Connor Whateverhisnameis but i havent done any film study on them, and this was kinda under the radar, for me at least. Cool, one more hole filled.
-
Cheap salary and draft pick cost. Hopefully you guys know more about Garrett Bradbury than me. LOL
-
Garrett Bradberry - Patriots Friend and old teammate of Joe Thuney Didn't give up a sack Costs a 2027 5th.

Maybe he sees the ship taking on water and prefers to leave now

I think I'm getting my arms around going big on a center. Ensure our interior and oline has a few difference maker(s). Right now this would mean we had 3 - Thuney, Wright, and Lindy. 1-2 years from now - it would shift to 2 as Thuney will age (could even be this year). If you get Lindy, than I personally would also say go for Decker on a 1yr bridge deal - but with us upgrading the interior (Lindy > Dalman), I would be perfectly fine if instead we opted for a competition from who we have as well. Draft D all the way - unless you have a high grade on an LT option. Find a few starters on D as part of the 2nd wave of free agency. This could include bringing back 1 of Byard/Brisker. Assess FA running back / ability to get younger + pick up draft asset (ie if you think you can get 2 years younger and spend similar to Swift money on a FA - get them and flip Swift for a low round pick) Note: The above helps strengthen foundations across the team while enabling a ton of flexibility the following year - where the Bears would have ample cap space (more benefit from Moore trade, plus Ayo/Jarrett flexibility). Probably looking at moving JJ (hopefully after he's rebuilt his value) at that time too - as the team can be a bit more aggressive given more cap space + assets (and hopefully another good draft building / creating a stronger ascending foundation).

Taylor Decker didn't want to come off of his 21m cap hit for the Lions. It would seem he'd want more than he's worth to us. We have Theo and Kiran under contract. Why not sign Braxton cheap and roll with the guys we already have? If all fails, we have Thuney. I'd rather spend money on Linderbaum than a starting caliber left tackle, if we're playing the long game. It would take some work signing/affording Tyler, especially when Wright needs extended. On D, Byard is on the fence with me. His lack of speed really got exposed last year. I'd keep him at a team friendly price, but we've got to get younger/faster.
-
That does make sense. The LT coming out of Detroit has a year left in him, and he and Johnson have familiarity. I feel like he might be willing to play cheaper for a ring? He had injuries tho. Johnson will know what he has left either way. I'd love to get Crosby too, but he is gonna be so expensive in cap AND picks. There are other Edge rushers too. And DTs both in free agency and the draft. So I can see us having options, including Crosby. But damn I would love to have Linderbaum. He's incredible.
-
Old Greg Gabriel seems to think Trapilo misses half the season and the Bears wont address that need as highly. If the Bears feel that way also, they can get a Linderbaum at C and maybe draft a 3rd rd or after LT prospect that can play if needed. Use the first and 2 seconds on 2 DTs and S, or a LB instead of 2 DT.
-
Dalman = $10M (and possibly $14M if we can get some signi9ng bonus back) Edmunds = $15M Moore = $16.5M just those three moves opened $41.5M (possibly $45.5M) That's before some other expected moves that should bring in more space, and restructures etc. We have plenty of cap room if we need it. Maybe Linderbaum is too expensive, but he is probably the best center in football despite PFF nonsense. Just watch the film. He is truly incredible. Also, Detroit LT Taylor Decker has asked to be released and the Lions will allow it. Maybe reunited with Ben Johnson? He's also expensive though, but he is 32 years old, so I suspect he might just want a ring and be willing to play for less. We do have options!

Im not a huge Courtney Cronin fan, but she absolutely has shared inside info before. I recall you didnt believe it and you said she didnt have contacts then too, but it becomes circular logic if all her inside info is determined to be not real, then obviously it isnt evidence that she has inside info, but she does sometimes.
-
She is just a reporter and I'm never heard he sight inside information before, so I suspect it's from rumors.
-
If we do get them, what a time to look forward to the future. .
-
I keep hearing we have 34 mil in Cap space right now. Several have reported 44 mil but the math is against them. Take out the rookie pool and operating capital and that leaves us 13 mil. How do we sign Tyler and a pass rusher with that amount of money?
-
We were very lucky to have all those late game heroics and tend to feel like we are great. The Bears are getting there and like you said are not one player away. Detroit took it to us, GB should have, and Minny gave us a run. If they bring in Crosby, great, but they need more imo.
