In fairness if McDonald is there they take him - let him plug the run for years. Should have some good options to add 2 more good football players in round 2 and hopefully another one in round 3.

I think we see WR and DB…maybe DT. I think they see Shemar as a pick this year (since he barely got to play) and same with Ayo (injury return and DA admitted he realized he didn’t use him right) plus they want Booker to get playing time. Not saying any of them are elite but I think we will move down with one of the 2 picks and than tackle those spots and grab a center too. LB is a wildcard for me.

If we get to the middle of round 2 and Young/Parker/Jacas are still n the board, I could see a trade to like Indy, TB, Atlanta range where we package our two 2nds to move up in the second but also get a 3rd back. That gets you the pass rusher you need and still puts you in a great position to address C, CB, or whatever with two third round picks.

Why draft a safety in the first round? Positional versatility. That’s why I’m really happy with this pick. DA will be able to bring pressure from anywhere and still have players to cover the gaps. QBs won’t be able to decipher coverage as well pre snap. Then there is just the sideline to sideline speed to close gaps quickly. In short, everything is on the menu.

yes, I hope we get Jacas or Dennis-Sutton tomorrow. Mason Reiger or Ndame Tucker are decent pass rushers that can be had later too. Also Lomu is agile but lacks a strong base. Needs a year in the weight room, is kind of a Braxton Jones clone right now. So maybe a player to develop, but not what we need right now. When Iheanachor went, I think that was that for our first round OL dreams. But then again, I had never heard of Ozzy Trapilo last year until we took him. So maybe they have something in mind. Also, maybe Cam Jordan or Taylor Decker will sign with us?

Poles press conference from tonight. He mentions how they are looking for scheme and traits fits and those that don’t have that are “off our board”. Will be interesting to see how that manifests over the next few days. Says they had a couple players available where they were picking they were interested in and gauged a small trade down but couldn’t swing it.

I hope day 2 goes as well as tonight. Find two gems who can contribute or replace the positions (GJ at DT, DO at DE) that will be big needs next year. Id understand WR or CB too.

At Pick 25, I never expected Dillion Thieneman to be there. I feel the Bears got their guy they wanted all along. I would have been happy with Lomu who NE was happy to trade up for, but still not a day 1 ready player like Dillion will be. The Edge players just didnt make sense either because Zion Young was rated higher, but Dani Dennis-Sutton is pretty close imo. Those are the fits and who the Bears are looking at. CB, my guy Chris Johnson went before Hood, but there is later talent at that position that is not a huge drop off.

Our safety room is probably one of the best in the NFL now. Both safeties can play man, so our coverages will be nasty to read. We gotta get an Edge tomorrow. Maybe we will sign Cam Jordan?

Dillon Thieneman ran a 4.35 40 at the combine. More speed has been added to the roster. I'm still trying to figure out how I read a different name (can't recall the name, but it was certainly not Dillon's) being announced as our pick. I was disappointed they would pass on a Safety everyone thought would be gone by the time we picked. Good job, Poles!

It feels a little like last year, a great player at an unexpected position. They are definitely respecting BPA. I think we needed something at Edge and OT, but the board fell the way it did. But no doubt I think the player is fantastic. I was looking Edge in the second anyway, so we are still OK with that, there are names, but the odds of signing a guy like Taylor Decker just went up. And if doing that upgrades our S pick (I had in the 2nd) then great. Hell of a player.

Wow! Never thought he'd be there for us. That's a massive upgrade in the defensive backfield. I liked Byard but he was too slow in coverage to get to the sideline or to run with someone crossing his face. Brisker was a shell of what he used to be. Now we have Bryant and Thieneman. This is going to feel a lot different in coverage. CB gets beat deep on the sideline? No worries help can now arrive on time to breakup the pass. Dennis Allen can mix and match these two any which way he wants to keep QBs guessing. A+

Im like how does people not know this name. We've been talking about him on here a lot. He is the perfect fit as a dual role Safety FS/SS. I moved on from him because I figured the Vikings were taking him.

Thieneman should not have been there at 25. Great pick.

Will interested to hear how much contact he had with the Bears in the pre draft process. No visit was ever announced but maybe they didn’t think he’d be there (or managed to keep it quiet).

Yeah I never considered him because I thought he would be long gone. Crazy to think they went from Byard+Brisker to Bryant+Thieneman.

Weakest spot on the roster was safety opposite Bryant. Pretty good safety draft but this was the guy to get that you know you can immediately plug in. Very happy with it.

I thought there was no chance he would be there. Dude is a baller and if Gordon and JJ and Smith can get healthy this secondary will be a lot better than a year ago.

Great pick, didn't expect him to be there. Safety a huge strength for defense. Most mocks had him going in the top 20, good value at 25.
