Some random thoughts on roster going into the draft: QB - Seems to be set RB - Maybe use one of those 7th round picks on a guy you like, as they had success there with Monongai, but I don't see a great need. Swift and Monongai are pretty good, Roschon Johnson has been injured but is useful if healthy, and there were preseason flashed from both Brittan Brown and Deion Hankins where I'm fine with them on the practice squad for emergencies. WR - I see as a bigger potential need/target. You only really have two semi-proven guys in Odunze and Burden, and all it takes is an injury to one of those guys (and both had injuries last year) and you are using Raymond or Walker at WR2. Loveland will get snaps at WR which maybe lessens the need, but a pick in the 2/3 range would not shock me, someone who can potentially work inside and outside like Germie Bernard. Ben likes his toys. TE - Loveland and Kmet will get a bunch of snaps and targets. You have Carlson as a blocker. If you like someone late either as a better blocking specialist or as a swiss army knife type (like Dan Villari that they brought in for a visit recently), I would have no problem with that. OT - There seems to be a fair amount of 1st round OT smoke with the Bears with names like Kadyn Proctor and Blake Miller being thrown around, but I don't really see it. Maybe if you get extra picks and you want to spend a mid-round pick on a guy with extended college experience at LT to give you another potential option (Kage Casey, Jude Bowry, etc.), but it seems like you have a competition between Jones, Benedet, and Willis set up. OG - Don't really see much of a need here. The caveat is if they see Luke Newman as the heir apparent at C - remember the Bears brass were talking about him as a center right after they drafted him, but I think during the season he worked more at G. But McFadden was brought back and did pretty well when asked at the end of the year and Newman looked promising. C - Makes a lot of sense to draft the heir apparent at C (unless it's Newman). There's like, literally ten centers that are bunched up in the middle rounds in this unusually deep center draft that I would have no problem with the Bears taking, so whoever and whenever they decide to address that is fine with me as long as it gets done. DT - Do the Bears have elite guys here? Probably not. But I don't quite get this as a big need. You got rid of your biggest underachiever from last year (Billings). Dexter was pretty good and is back. You brought in three new DTs who figure to make the roster and get snaps (Gallimore, Street, Lynch). Then you have Shemar Turner hopefully healthy and I think he makes more sense in the mix at DT than DE. Maybe if there is a 3T you love the value on you take him, but this is more of a NT draft and that doesn't seem to be the type of DT that appeals to Dennis Allen (I truly don't know what to make of the recent visit by Kayden McDonald but it's notable I guess that maybe they are looking beyond those historical trends). DE - You need some new blood. Ideally in the 1st or 2nd because after that you might as well just play Austin Booker more. Dayo is probably back and can't possibly be worse (right?) and maybe Shemar gets some snaps here. LB - I think I'm good here. Edwards and Bush will start with a nickel or D'Marco Jackson most of the time and Sanborn, Hyppolite, and a (hopefully) healthy Sewell are decent depth. Maybe there's a speedy guy they love like Kyle Louis but I would not make it a priority in the draft myself. CB - #2 CB is the biggest Bears need not enough people are talking about. You have guys to play nickel (Gordon, Lewis, Blackburn) but on the outside Stevenson is coming off a down year and Smith and Frazier are big question marks after they missed most of last year. It's a deep CB draft (and good draft for the bigger press corners DA seems to favor) but historically you can't plan on getting a starting caliber CB as a rookie much past the first round or two. I think guys like Colton Hood, Chris Johnson, Brandon Cisse, and Treydan Stukes are real 1/2 round possibilities. S - The other glaring need as the Bears don't seem to have a starting caliber safety on the roster next to Bryant. But this is a deep safety draft and you can historically draft a potential first year starter into the 3rd and maybe even 4th round. I can see Poles not buying into the value of a first round safety unless maybe Thieneman is there (I don't think he will be) so we might be looking at guys like Kilgore, Clark, Ramsey, Wheatley in the 2-4 round range. But seems to me you have to get someone who can at least potentially if not probably start as a rookie.

I second that. If they add a NT, maybe go McDonald in the draft, but highly unlikely since they will run more wide/double 3T fronts than fronts w NT.

I don’t see it. I know he’s a good tackler but I don’t think he’s big enough for safety. More of a nickel if anything, though I think he could survive in the outside.

How will this defense look if every position has speed injected? I looked up Sweat and didn't realize he ran a 4.42 40. Gervon Dexter ran a 4.88 40. Grady Jarrett 5.06 40 Austin Booker 4.79 40 We already have some speed on the line and Jarrett will be gone after this year. Very interested to see DA run his defense.

That makes sense. Or just drop rule all together. They should be forced to honor the policy or change it.

The new name some bears fans want is Dexter Lawrence.. He had 1/2 sack last year. The next two years he will get 54 mil at 29 and the reason he wants to be traded is he wants more money. He is a better player than any DT we have but at 6'4" and 330. Ran a 5 05 40. Not sure that fits the new speed scheme.

I have seen some pundits say he will play S in the pros? I think he is too small for that. What say you

What is absolutely crazy about this is if Cunningham goes to another team to be the GM (the same position he is now), but doesn't have a President of Football Operations over him, the Falcons would get comp picks. If the league really cared about any of this, they would require teams to be structured the same way, just like they do for players and the roster limits. To me, they should force all teams to make the GM the head football guy, and they can make as many fake positions they want around that position, but that one is the head football decision maker. If they add a President, it is not recognized by the league.

Anyone know of anyone else? It has been reported that they only bring in players that they have questions about. Then decide if they don't or do want them. It has been reported that every pick we took last year came in for a visit. Also they are not required to report all visits and tell some agents not to talk about it. Local school and Chicago people get to come in that don't get applied to the 30 visit list unless they want to. I don't think any 30 visit is a smoke screen action. I think they may like or dislike a player and we don't know the answer. So far 3 centers and 3 DL if that may disclose positions of interest.

I still think they're a good old boys network of owners that participate in the league but the new ones control it. This decision is very bad but it's more of the league having a power trip than being against the bears. The referee situation is bad and discriminates against bad teams and in favor good times. Bears are consistently bad so it takes hits. I love conspiracies but this isn't going on in the NFL.

I saw that post too. All of Poles first round picks have been 22 and younger except one at 23. Messidor is probably the best pure pass rusher that could be there late round but he will be 27 next Jan in his first year. I just don't see it. I just don't think he is drafting anyone that will be 25 or older his year. Parker, Young, Jacas and Lawrence fit most of the scheme traits but all seem more like 2 nd round picks to me. Although Parker and Young may go first round. The DT class doesn't really have any high prospects that have high pass rush ability. McDonald and Woods may be good players be to me not first round worthy with limited pass rush skills. Because we didn't get the comp pick, I definitely think we drop out of 25. The second round seems like the sweet spot to take an Edge rusher or run support DT. I think we end up getting 3 picks in the second round. I don't see us taking any older players or pass rush specialist there either. One prospect if drops to 25 I think we consider is Faulk. 20 years old, great size and speed but didn't have a good senior year. People say coaching changes affected that. Malachi Lawrence keeps dropping and could be first round. Great speed and got better every year. Note that Jacas workout he ran a 4.69.

I believe pass rusher, regardless of position.

I seen Greg Gabriel post that the Bears draft younger players round 1 and 2, so off that pattern, Messidor may not be an option. I like the Penn State Edge Dani Dennis-Sutton because he seems to have the size and athleticism that can be developed into the complete package, like Garrett. He scored the highest RAS score for DEs and top 15 for all DEs ever recorded. If he is still on the board round 2, I would be good seeing him selected. I should see how he compares to Zion Young who i can see the Bears taking round 1 because of the edge defender profile, like Dani.

We all agree we need an improved pass rush but we also need better DE depth. This draft poses the opportunity to draft one or the other. Guys like Myles Garrett or Maxx Crosby who can give you both are somewhat rare. My question is which do you prefer we draft because we have options in the first couple rounds of players that go one way or the other? The obvious answer is we need a DE but having one really good pass rusher on the roster would change things for us in games where we can get a big lead early. I could see someone like Mesidor not getting many snaps in the first half but that changing as we get into the 3rd and especially the 4th quarter. I'm leaving out the obvious top 15 players from the list because I don't think those are realistic options for us. Players I consider pass rushers: Mesidor, Cashius Howell, Romello Height, R. Mason Thomas Edge Defenders: Zion Young, Derrick Moore, Keldric Faulk, T.J. Parker, Dani Dennis-Sutton My preference is to get another good DE Edge Defender and we can do that in either the 1st or 2nd Rd. Every one of those players needs work on the pass rushing. I won't be upset at all if we draft Mesidor at 25 because he'd be a huge help in the 4th quarter closing out games.

right. with a pass rush ALL your defenders get "better" at coverage. Edge is a force multiplier for sure.

An all-pro shutdown CB could only take care of one WR, Myles Garrett can shut down the whole offense. 2 firsts and a 2026 second, my final offer.

Sometimes I feel the league is trying to pry the McCaskeys from ownership. They want another big boy at the table, maybe with ties to WEF...rabbit hole. Seems like the Bears have taken a beating on most instances over the last 40 years from draft coverage to timely questionable penalties, and now legislature putting them in a bind. It could be that they never do things proper too haha.

What's really crazy, is the dude has never trained until a few months ago. He's literally getting stronger and faster by the day. He has no experience, but definitely beats the guy jumping out of the pool.

And what makes it extra stupid is that every GM has a boss that will fire them if they dont like the choices the GM makes, so that gives every GM's boss the final word. So what are we even talking about here? If Poles picks poorly, and Warren fires him as a result does that mean Poles wasnt the GM? And Poles know this, so if Warren says something like "take Caleb Williams" then Poles kinda has to do it. Not saying Warren does that, but he COULD. And so thats all no different than the situation Ian Cunningham is in. Something in Ryans contract gives him an executive GM role I guess. But so what? Its still a promotion to a GM position. League blew it on this one. They're blowing it on the referees contract too. Just pay them.

Caleb was the only pick everyone actual knew we were going to pick. Otherwise Poles is full of surprises. For what I understand DA likes is versatile players he can move in an out. Ss that can play up and back. Speed at LB to cover side to side. He likes length, speed and aggressive play. I think Bryant and Bush are those types. Gallimore is that type. Turner fits his mold. I think he had input in bringing in Dayo, Tall DE with long arms that can play in or out. I think when looking at prospects, we find those traits first at those positions. At DE Faulk, Parker, Jacas just ran a 4 .69 40 in a workout. Zion Young? Dennis -Sutton is that type. At DT Woods fits but have heard he has put on 35 lbs since he finished playing games. Don't know if true or what that means. The NTs doesn't fit his type IMO. Gracen Halton, Zane Durant and Kaleb Proctor does. At S it's Theinaman, Bud Clark, VJ Payne and Robert Spears -Jennings. If a mixed review on whether McNeil - Warren is that type. He lacks the long speed but players can make up for that with awareness and short area quickness. A few pundits have compared him to Brisker and we didn't retain him. I'm not sure on McN- Warren. A prospect that interests me is Treydan Stukes can play CB or both S spots. He has moved up draft boards probably is the second round now.
