Its time to rebuild the defense. Last year the plan was clearly to stock the offense and get it going. Dont be shocked if there are wholesale changes to this defense. We are slow and built for Cover 2, and we have no pass rush. We will look a lot different next year. Last year at this time you said two new starters on the OL (I said four). You were saying how Tevin Jenkins and Braxton Jones would play better. By now, everyone knows your loyalty to players on the roster. But the guys who arent Ben Johnson guys, not Dennis Allens guys, the ones that got drafted under Eberflus are all under the microscope. And i think there is gonna be a lot more roster turnover than people expect. -
Its not a bad idea for a thread. I see how the dots line up, why it is an idea. But I think if we are considering letting DJ go because of his attitude and commitment, then we shouldnt take on another one with issues. One of the benefits of moving on from DJ would be a strong message to every player that they are replaceable if they dont keep a high standard of play. I wouldnt lose that for a WR3 at best? Also, to be fair, I've been one to argue that we need to trade Moore, and for me I saw it as keep him as he is, or trade him decision. The TTNL guys last night were talking about restructuring options that I thought made a lot of sense and might be a third way if we choose to keep him. I still think we're better off with a 3rd round pick than to restructure and keep him, but I wanted to say that the all or nothing way I was looking at his contract isn't the entire picture. I didnt think there were realistic options that gave so much cap relief. Anyway, here's the TTNL link If you dont want to watch the whole thing, fast forward to 36:25 for the cap section. Watch for at least 7 minutes to get to $64M in cap space. It's the kind of analysis you really dont get anywhere else, and its really smart and informed. It's never narrative driven, and these guys really know what theyre talking about.

someone please explain to him, that i didnt say anything fighty at all. Please. This is exactly how it all happened last time. You all saw my reaction, but you never noticed the months building up to it. Hes also fighting with other members right now too. All this to say, please dont blame me, Im avoiding all of that as much as possible.

Sticking with the theme of reading body language etc and correlating that to which side of the ball needs more attention, Iād agree itās the D. I think several here will agree that Jaylon Johnson has not been the player we saw that one year he signed for a big deal. Heās essentially a body filling the roster at this point. And aside from the one takeaway earlier this year, what has Stevenson done for us lately? You wanna talk about taking plays off? Iām sure we all clearly remember his infamous lolly gag moment while Washington stole a victory away from us last year. Never mind the lack of pass rush from our front 7. These two guys alone havenāt done much this year despite the new regime and attitude adjustment our team has adopted. Id say the offense is overall good for now. The focus really needs to be on the defense as a whole.

My boy Jurko is Croatian. So is Bill Belichick.

This is hilarious. Nobody said anything bad about DJ until you started slurping his jock. Yes, this is about #25 and I mentioned trading DJ for someone if we can't get What we need at 25. You made it a fanboy post. Now you want to blame others for hijacking it. My opinion of DJ was in another post and you drug it over. I'm not taking the heat for you not understanding how English composition works.
-
I didn't know where to stick this. I have seen some people ( not on here) wanting to badmouth the bears for moving without having the debt paid off on Soldiers field. This clears that up.
-
Lucky you do a good job of explaining your thoughts but let me clear this up. I think DJ is a valuable member of the team, you don't have to but it comes down to, it's about what the bears want to do. If it works out, they value the cap space and a third round pick better, I'm all in . It doesn't mean I have to agree with someone else's opinion on a quitter label. For everyone that doesn't like the term, whipping boy, take that up with Olin kruetz, those are his words. I follow him on X , I would love to see his reaction.
-
We are going to have some new coaches because teams want the BJ tree and already starting this year. I trust them to replace assistants. I watched a lot of podcasts yesterday, someone mentioned, Adam Hoge, that instead of putting Theo back at LT he moved Thuney there. Clearly showing how valuable he thinks that is. I think it will be BPA available between LT and DT. We will draft a LT in the few couple of picks. Poles is not stupid he's going to get what BJ wants. This will be a defensive draft overall but also a LT.
-
Yes and Iām very curious who we draft this year. Last year went well with a better coaching staff. Can we repeat in year two?
-
The NFL and NBA has a majority of black players not because of race but because they are the best at what they do. I wish society would use that metric when applying to anything. I never complain because they're not a lot of Croatians in the NFL , I'm okay with it.
-
This thread is #25 and we are talking about DJ? You always make good points instead of arguing about a player value. The bear's could care less what we as fans think about DJ. Their opinion is all that matters.
-
Olin kruetz used the term whipping boy, I just repeated it. If you don't like the comment, @olin_kruetz is his Twitter account. Let's keep this simple, it's okay to find value in a player you may not like. Im not here to discuss DJ's flaws. All we have are opinions until the bears choose what to do. Then we can say I was right or you were right about a player. That actually doesn't matter to me. Because he is being paid the most on the team is what generates about what to do with him. If BA doesn't want him here and wants him traded, I'm all in. I trust BJs opinions over fan opinions. If he thinks Walker will be a plus wide out, get us assets and cap space. We are winning now. Rome was hurt a lot this year, Burden had some games off, depth mattered and I would say without DJ we might have lost a couple of those games and not made the playoffs. Find a trade partner, get a replacement, it's just not as easy as playing FF. I'm no longer arguing with you over using words like ( simplistic and childish ways) . Why you want to fight all the time?

In the past we were always rebuilding the team at this time because we were losers, that is gone now. The bear's are now a playoff contender and I don't think it's rebuild mode but tweek time. I don't see them doing several major moves. One big surprise and I think we all see Edmunds gone. -

That is probably what he would bring back, a 3rd rounder. Find a trading partner. -
He has some talent but like AZ said he has an elite QB, maybe our coaches can get more out of him. If I remember his catch rate is bad , we already have Rome on the team, not sure we could have two of them.
-
I posted the video to show Brady choosing Caleb's throw as the best of the year, and wanted to use your terminology to describe the WR. I didn't want to use the term I wanted to say so you don't think I'm just a player fan.
-
The number one talent needed to be successful is showing up to work. Unfortunately I'm so old I know that there is much more fire behind this smoke than just a single event being late to a meeting. His stats this season with an elite QB throwing him the ball back that up. While I know people can change, more often than not I find that a tiger never changes its stripes. Now I'm not saying I'd never touch him. I'd be willing to take a chance but wouldn't be banking on him being anything higher than WR5, or perhaps WR4, on my roster...and that comes on a no-risk contract. https://billswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/bills/2025/11/29/sean-mcdermott-buffalo-bills-keon-colemans-second-missed-game-scratch-nfl/87523218007/ The team confirmed it was a disciplinary decision. Coleman was late to a team meeting on Friday and was inactive on Sunday because of that.

Just trading DJ and Edmunds alone would increase our cap by $31M If you trade sweat, thats another $17M of cap space and another 3rd round pick. If you trade Jaylon Johnson, thats another $6.5M and probably at least a 2nd round pick. We'd get another $10M each if we could trade Dayo and/or Garrett, but i dont imagine we would have any takers, and the benefit of cutting them is much smaller. Kmet would get us another $8M, but i feel like he might just be a little overpriced. If they want to keep him, that works too. I think hes a little expensive, hes been a decent TE2, and usually those dont get paid $11.6M. It could go either way. If you could get a 2nd rounder for him, i think you do it. So you can trade DJ, Edmunds, Sweat and JJ for $54.5M in cap space and a 2nd, two 3rds and a 4th. I would do all of that, pick up a big name edge rusher like Crosby or Garrett, and draft DL. Add in Booker, Shemar Turner and Dexter at nose, and you might have the makings of a plan. We would need help at 3T, LB, CB and S but we'd have room and picks for that. It's a bold move, cleaning house like that, but I think thats exactly the kind of thing Johnson will want to do. -
If there's a chance to bring in Crosby in a trade, I'd consider to free up the money.
-
I laughed at Detroit for drafting Gibbs and then that ILB a few years ago round 1, so I get it. But would you rather have Gibbs or Swift if you had a choice? Its Gibbs for me, but no I wouldn't want to use a 1st, but a 3rd I can live with. The Bears oline was rebuilt, looked great except for Ozzys injury and now being out for most of the year. If Johnson sees a RB that would pair well with Monongai, I wouldnt be surprised if that happens. Swift will stick around next season but they will invest in another sooner than later to have a #1 guy by 2027. .

Like always, Iām opposed to a RB with just about any day 1 pick, and most day 2 picks. Build the OL - as we have seen - and late round RBs can excel. Besides, RBs are not a real need at this point, they age like milk in the sun, and there are bigger holes to fill.

Respectfully disagree. He can obviously win jump balls, knows how to find soft spots in the zone, can fight through contested catches, excels at the back should reception, has very sure hands, and is difficult to tackle. He reminds me in many ways of Brandon Marshall. Watch this and tell me you donāt see talent.
