  1. Started by nfoligno,

Okay, this is not a complain thread. There are plenty of those which I have plenty of comments on. My question is this. We have about $34m in cap space. It was reported to be around $30m, then it was reported the cap went up another $4m for all teams, thus $34m. Each year, we spend close to our entire cap allowance, if not the full amount. That doesn't mean we use it all up loading up on FAs, but on paper, we do use up all our space. This year, we simply do not have the in-house players really due to be extended, which has used up a ton of our cap space in recent years. So where are we going to use our $34m? While we have seen a slow start, I would assume we …

  2. Chicago Bears Quarterbacks 1979-2008 by Roy Taylor © 2007 By popular demand, I had to update this article to reflect changes in 2008. I certainly wish we were talking about Rex Grossman having success as a 16-game starter in 2007, leading the Bears to another Super Bowl, but as we all know the situation has been far from that. The Chicago Bears have now changed their starting quarterback 42 times since 1992, by my count. We've had a lot of questions here on the number of starting quarterbacks the Bears have had, mainly since Brett Favre's reign of terror began. We'll do that one better and go back to 1979 in chronological order. Why 1979? Surely the story goes…

  3. I just got off the phone with Tim Ryan and Pat Kirwan from Moving The Chains. A few callers before a guy named Super Bowl Shuffle was talking to them about the criticisms Jerry Angelo receives. They said that Jerry told them there was a situation happening he couldnt do anything about because of a lack of cash. Ha wasn't given permission to spend the cash needed to make a move he said, quoting the hosts, "made him sick in the stomach." Saying that it was something they could really have use to help the team. Not sure if this is about Cutler, Cassel, Houshmanzadeh or possibley an OL. It sounds as though he is frsutrated by it and said that his comments about Craig St…

  4. Chris Simms is signing with Denver, as per PFT. He wouldn't have been great, but I liked the idea of having him as a back-up, and I really don't think we'll spend the money for Leftwich. Khalif Barnes is meeting with Oakland. He's the last tackle available who'd be an upgrade over St. Clair. (At least he's still in the mix . . . ) Jermaine Phillips, the top safety available, is meeting with the Chargers & Seahawks. I just view back-up QB, safety, WR, and o-line as MAJOR problems we need to address in the draft AND free agency. We're so damn thin we need two of each position. My optimism is fading fast.

Now that I've started to look at the draft more closely, I wanted to get some reaction to those who watched more college football than I did regarding a couple players who seem to fit what the Bears might want, but who I haven't heard mentioned much on this board: Max Unger, OL, Oregon - Started for four years, beginning at LT and finishing at center and can probably play every position on the line. Looking at his measurables and combine performance, I can't help but be reminded of Branden Albert last year, who played OG but everyone projected could play LT. Unger seems to offer the same ability, except you KNOW he can play OT. I keep seeing him go in the last first,…

Cowboys | Safety Roy Williams released Thu, 05 Mar 2009 07:43:24 -0800 Todd Archer, of The Dallas Morning News, reports the Dallas Cowboys have released S Roy L. Williams after not being able to trade him. Williams confirmed his release Thursday, March 5. His release will save the team about $2 million against the salary cap. Is he worth a look? I haven't seen many Cowgirl games lately so not sure if he can still tackle since he can't horsecollar people anymore...

Fairly simple question. Assume the contracts are favorable, assume Lovie, Orton, Turner meet with him and decide things are ok, assume whatever other details you want that would make the situation positive. In that case, would you want T.O. on the Bears?

They're not the only team that has done more window shopping than buying, a product of a diluted free-agent pool and a weakened economy that has some organizations tightening their bel…

Specifically, I'm having the pipe dream of Marvin Harrison and Torry Holt. What if the Bears signed them both? That makes the WRs: Harrison, Holt, Hester, Bennett, and whoever else That thought makes Jason happy.

...and another one's gone. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/HeadLines...L&hl=140875 Bucs re-signed SS Jermaine Phillips. Terms have not yet been disclosed. Phillips received little free agent interest, with only the Chargers and Seahawks sniffing around. Instead he'll return to the starting lineup at strong safety in Tampa, with Sabby Piscitelli staying in a reserve role. Mar. 5 - 6:14 pm et Source: Tampa Tribune

While not the top tire list of needs, I think he'd be a good addition and an improvement over McKie. Not sure it even matters as he played most games and it seems JA's only looking for guys with only 1 start in FA... Sorry, couldn't resist the dig!

Let's say we do not get another WR in FA or via the draft. I show the following on the roster: - Hester - Davis - Bennett - Aromashodu (waived by Indy - did not play for us) - Rideau - Burgess (practice squad) I would assume then the top 5 would make the team with Hester, Davis, and Bennett as the top 3. If this is the case then why not play Olsen more at WR (he played around 15% of his plays there this last yr with Kellen Davis and Clark at TE). We had some success with Olsen at WR last yr and I would love to see Kellen Davis get some time on the field - he looked very good in the preseason. Formation could be 2 WR (Hester and Olsen), 2 TE …
