Since there's nothing happening on the free-agency front any time in the foreseeable future, I thought we should have a running thread for all the draft prospects the Bears are putting through private workouts, and all the Pro Days they're sending coaches to. After all, it's the only thing that's going on between now and April. So I've listed all the workouts I could find so far, along with a quick report on the lesser-known guys and on which coaches the team sent to see each dude. Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin - Tice worked him out at Wisconsin's Pro Day. We all know this guy. I think most of us would be pretty happy to see him in a Bears uniform. Mike Pouncey…

http://bearingthenews.com/?p=1367 Trend Towards Interior Linemen May Characterize Draft by Tom Shannon I’ve long held that offensive guard is becoming a more important position in the National Football League than in years past. Bear fans need only look at their own division for one of the best example of why this is. The Minnesota Vikings spent what was at the time a fortune for a guard on Steve Hutchinson in 2006. Ever since we have watched Hutchinson serve as the key piece of what was up to last year an excellent to good offensive line. Dan Pompei writing for the National Football Post, explains why interior offensive linemen and defensive tackles h…

Hey guys...just thought I'd fill you in on something I heard over the weekend. I was at an officiating clinic where there were several big names in college and the NFL. Officials mostly, but there were a few director of officials and assorted leadership there as well. Aside from a bunch of great football talk, I heard the following tidbit: Just in case the labor problems continue, the NFL already has an 8 game schedule in place for the following season. Does that mean it'll happen? Not necessarily. But the way I heard it, they are preparing for the worst, and an 8 game schedule - which would start at what would normally be week 8 or 9 - is definitely a gloo…

I do this every year, just for a little fun. If the Bears had the #1 pick this year, whether it was via trade or because of their play, who would you all want them to select? **I didn't include Gabbert and Newton for obvious reasons, nor did I include any OT's because none are even worth a top 7 pick in this year's draft, and I doubt they'd ever take Von Miller (an OLB) with their current needs at #1.

per chicagobears.com. Why the f*** do they play Cleveland every preseason? I'm sick of staring at those ugly brown and orange uniforms with those plain, orange helmets for a pointless preseason game every year.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/...d-girls-at-byu/ Jim McMahon on Cutler, lockout, brain injuries and girls at BYU Posted by Michael David Smith on April 11, 2011, 10:03 AM EDT APFormer NFL quarterback Jim McMahon was brash and outspoken in his playing days. At the age of 51, that hasn’t changed. McMahon weighed in on a wealth of subjects in an ESPN Radio interview today, talking about subjects ranging from the NFL lockout to suffering brain damage on the football field to how he got away with breaking the honor code during his time at Brigham Young University. And McMahon took his former team to task for the way they handled the injury suf…

per Bears Chalk Talk with Larry Mayer. What do you guys think? I liked those 1946 throwbacks, but I guess it was a one year deal to make more money off of jersey sales.

Is it just me or does anyone else see a pattern to whom we bring in and at what position they play? Well we need help at OT, DT, LB,SS/FS, WR due to FA or not having the right players to start with. But looking at some of the draft sites and information cloumns I see that we are looking at, talking to or bring in/working out DB'S, LB'S,dt and OL. Makes you wonder if we need a big WR, at all

This was done with the Bears, at times, inept offense over the last few seasons. From the Bears website: http://www.chicagobears.com/news/ChalkTalk...p?story_id=7716 I keep hearing that Greg Olsen is no longer a threat in the passing game. But didn’t he lead the Bears in receiving touchdowns again in 2010? Roger W. Iowa Yes, Greg Olsen tied Johnny Knox for the Bears lead with five touchdown receptions in 2010. Olsen also topped the Bears with five TD catches in 2008 and eight in 2009. Olsen’s 20 career TD receptions are the second most by a Bears tight end, trailing Hall of Famer Mike Ditka’s 34. Olsen’s 18 touchdown receptions the past three …

Well since Jerry likes to do this, try this scenerio. Denver trades there 2 2nd round picks to Chi for 29th and 3th round pick. With the 36th pick the Bears pick Sherrod/LT/Miss S With the 46th pick the Bears take Baldwin/WR/Pitt With the 62nd pick the Bears select McClain/DT/SF Denvers reasoning is with Elway taking over running the team, Already have stated franchize qb not on roster. Have had a private workout with Locker and starts his run as GM with a prospect he can sink his teeth into. With 2 1sts and 2 3rds, they fill there needs with a DT, QB, OLB and SS. The Bears get players that might not be there in the 3rd. With the 4th …

Ted Phillips told the Sun-Times that the Bears would be on board with opening their books to the players' union, if that's what it takes to get a CBA done. He basically said they have nothing to hide and would be happy to go along with turning over their financials. They're the second team, after the Broncos, to say they'd do this. I haven't always been Ted's biggest fan, but this is a great thing to put out there. If we're ever going to get a new CBA in place, the owners are going to HAVE to cave on this issue. Before the lockout/decertification, the two sides came incredibly close (within $300 million, by some accounts) in money terms, but the owners' refusal t…
