I hope to see all of you in the chat room & message board on draft days. This site has been extremely slow and I'm sure the lock-out is responsible. Regardless, I love the draft. Since the notorious Cedric Benson draft, I annually take an "Al Bundy Vacation" sy this time. This is where I tell my family not to speak to me. I bunker down in the garage in front of the TV's and the lap-top and immerse myself in the draft, while enjoying copious amounts of Bud Light. Sorry. I know this is for the football forum but in case you were under a rock, thought I would pass along that today is a big day in Chicago "other" sports. The Bulls and Pacers meet up to close out their series (yes I said close out) then Blackhawks meet the Canucks to HOPEFULLY advance.

I've seen several mention the hope that the Bears do not reach on draft day. This is especially true with the first round pick. Made me think of the following question: Would any of these guys be a reach? Tyron Smith Anthony Castonzo Nate Solder Mike Pouncey Gabe Carmini Derek Sherrod If the answer is yes, then it's a bit of surprise to me. But that's player evaluation for you. People disagree. If the answer is no, then there is no reason one of those guys shouldn't be available when the Bears pick. And the guy who they have rated the highest should be selected.

Since there's nothing happening on the free-agency front any time in the foreseeable future, I thought we should have a running thread for all the draft prospects the Bears are putting through private workouts, and all the Pro Days they're sending coaches to. After all, it's the only thing that's going on between now and April. So I've listed all the workouts I could find so far, along with a quick report on the lesser-known guys and on which coaches the team sent to see each dude. Hey guys...just thought I'd fill you in on something I heard over the weekend. I was at an officiating clinic where there were several big names in college and the NFL. Officials mostly, but there were a few director of officials and assorted leadership there as well. Aside from a bunch of great football talk, I heard the following tidbit: Just in case the labor problems continue, the NFL already has an 8 game schedule in place for the following season. I do this every year, just for a little fun. If the Bears had the #1 pick this year, whether it was via trade or because of their play, who would you all want them to select? **I didn't include Gabbert and Newton for obvious reasons, nor did I include any OT's because none are even worth a top 7 pick in this year's draft, and I doubt they'd ever take Von Miller (an OLB) with their current needs at #1.
