Our top 3 signings were all seen as "+0.5: Common sense shines through" Lamarr Houston (DE) to Bears: 5-year, $35m with $15m guaranteed The Bears’ defense needed help and in Houston they have added a versatile and productive defensive lineman in the hope of reinvigorating a unit that struggled in 2013. Houston’s top quality run defense (+14.9 in 2013) will be a welcome boost though he isn’t quite the top-drawer pass rusher that they might be hoping for. That, however, is reflected in his price tag and he will be a solid and productive contributor so long as the Bears don’t expect him to turn around their pass rush single-handedly. If deployed correctly this has the…

I know these can be taken with a grain of salt, but there are some good stats in there beyond the grades. Some of the grades actually pass the eye test. I find it interesting that the top 3 offensive players in PFF for the Bears are on the OL, Wright, Jones, and Jenkins, and all the OL are higher than Williams, Kmet, Odunze, Allen, and Swift. The only offensive skill players higher than Shelton and Pryor are Moore and Roschon. The good thing is the worst starter, (according to PFF), is Swift at a 62.0, which means every starter is above average (60.0). The worst players with over 100 snaps are: Lewis - 43.3, Everett - 45.3, and Borom - 49.3 which passes t…

https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-what-the-advanced-analytics-say-about-mitchell-trubiksy I really don't get all the national hate for Trubisky. He is a nice kid, says the right things, isn't overly cocky or arrogant, and has played pretty damn well considering the circumstances (Fox/Loggains era). I find it funny when people compare him to Rodgers, Stafford, Cousins, etc. All vets. The funny thing is to check out their stats before they were all 25. Before his 25-yr old season, Cousins played in 3 games, started 1 game, and had a total of 4 TDs, 3 INTs and 466 passing yards. In his first two years, he was 1-3, with 8 TD, 10 INT and 1320 passing yards. …

I'm not a big PFF guy, but these are interesting to note: Kevin White, WR, West Virginia Brandon Marshall is gone but fear not Bears fans because Kevin White is in town. A beast of a receiver, his physicality and ability to win downfield scared many a college defensive back and promise to do the same in the NFL. Only Amari Cooper forced more missed tackles, and only Devin Smith had more deep touchdowns (7) than the talented wideout. A truly explosive player, the tandem of him and Alshon Jeffery is one that rightly has the Bears fans in attendance sitting very pretty. This fit makes all kinds of sense. Chicago Bears Notable signings: WR Keenan Allen (trade); CB Jaylon Johnson; RB D’Andre Swift; S Kevin Byard; TE Gerald Everett; C Coleman Shelton; OL Ryan Bates (trade) Notable departures: WR Darnell Mooney; S Eddie Jackson; OL Cody Whitehair; DT Justin Jones The Bears saved their most significant transaction for late in the week. On Thursday, Chicago traded for Los Angeles Chargers WR Keenan Allen, adding the six-time Pro Bowler in exchange for a fourth-round pick (No. 110). Allen turns 32 next month and has had trouble staying healthy. He missed seven games with a hamstring strain in 2022 before shoulder and heel issues sidelined him in 2023. Allen is…

https://twitter.com/PFF/status/448821405379870720 In all fairness to reporting news both good and bad... I thnk there is some reason for concern. But, we all know the inherent risk in an aging star. We also know how bad Minny was last year. My guess...the truth is in the middle. He's getting old and won't put up numbers as he did in the past...but it will be better than 2013 and much better than what we did in 2013. Change of scenery has been known to uplift many a player. Consider my glass full with a tiny tasting sip taken.

http://www.profootballfocus.com/articles.p...arc=&id=151 No. 25 -- Chicago Bears The Bears were one of the teams that had only a couple of guys play well, whilst the others struggled and left their offense dead in the water. The "couple of guys" in this case were center Olin Kreutz and right guard Roberto Garza, with the rest being various shades of poor. None was worse than Orlando Pace and it was a huge mistake believing he had much left in the tank (he didn't). By the time he was benched in Week 13, the Bears were already gasping for air. Amazingly, as poor as a right tackle as Chris Williams was, he may end up being a success story if he can keep up his late-…

This is interesting. At a minimum it will generate the usual comments about how PFF scores don't always match performance. Nonetheless there is Trubisky sitting right alongside Watson and Mahomes (in a very small sample size) not far above. https://twitter.com/PFF/status/950778207325...com%2Fnfl-draft Myles Garrett will be stud. QB is still the more valuable position. The geniuses in SF can't possibly be happy with Solomon Thomas. I still think he'll be a good player and as a fan of his in the draft expected better play from him. That's close to being a bust in the top 5. Reuben Foster makes up for it late in the 1st Rd. Jabril Peppers pla…

I wanted to take a unit approach look to evaluating our offseason needs. I think it is pretty evident where we need help, but wanted to verify it with some comparisons (by unit). So I looked at PFF Rankings (and will follow with a few more) to see how we looked compared to NE and ATL. Here are the latest rankings I could find by unit: NE QB - 1st, OLine - 10th, Receiving Corps - 6th, RB Units - 18th Front-7 - 18th, Secondary - 3rd ATL QB - 2nd, OLine - 6th, Receiving Corps - 1st, RB Units - 8th Front-7 - 24th, Secondary - 6th CHI QB - 26th, OLine - 15th, Receiving Corps - 28th, RB Units - 17th Front-7 - 23rd, Secondary - 30th This is…

  15. Take it at fast value but was surprised to see that ranking pulled together. He wasn't even rated highly from a receiving perspective (which makes me question the entire rating process PFF put together). He certainly wasn't an elite football player last year. He got a lot of garbage stats and run blocking wasn't good but I can't remember a special move / play he made last season. I like Forte a lot but in a deep RB draft and with Carey on board, the money you free up could help you land 2 starting caliber players (shore up oline / defense).

WR CALVIN RIDLEY, JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS Potential landing spot(s): Chicago Bears, Kansas City Chiefs With D.J. Moore in place, Chicago could get two players who are interchangeable as X-receivers up on the line and as good move/Z-receivers with alignment versatility. Both can create separation vertically, but Ridley could take the top off defenses even more and let Moore utilize his high-end after-the-catch abilities at the short and intermediate levels. Lets see what the website our GM uses thinks we need to do...(a lot shorter than I thought and no real news here) https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2013/...-chicago-bears/ Not sure they have the money to grab Levitre, Bennett, and Melton plus bring in enough depth to fill the team but that would certainly be the makings of Super Bowl contender.

Caleb comes in at #19, between Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield. This feels like a pretty fair spot to start at, though, I think he will be closer to to 10 than top 20. I think he will be better than Murray, Smith, and Lawrence at least. Lawrence at #12 seems too high for me. https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-quarterback-rankings-all-32-starters-2024-nfl-season

I don't know if the Bears have ever had 3 top 30 WRs on the same roster. I think Allen is probably a little low and Odunze a little high (for a rookie) but regardless, this is impressive nonetheless. #12 - Moore #22 - Allen #29 - Odunze https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-pff-wide-receiver-rankings-top-32-ahead-of-the-2024-nfl-season
