  2. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/be...sman-19.article 6 reasons why the Bears' franchise is inept November 19, 2009 Even if Rex Grossman's dad is wrong, does that make the Bears right? Whether or not the Bears failed Rex Grossman or Rex Grossman failed the Bears, the point is still the same: the Bears haven't had a "franchise" quarterback since Sid Luckman. In fact, the Bears haven't even had an offense that ranks higher than 15th in the NFL in Jerry Angelo's nine seasons as general manager. They've been 26th or lower in seven of his first eight full seasons. Sorry, but that's a far bigger problem than Dan Grossman. The Tribune rushed to the B…

  3. Mike Brown named AFC defensive player of the week Posted by Michael David Smith on November 18, 2009 10:41 AM ET Kansas City Chiefs safety Mike Brown picked off two passes in Sunday's win over the Oakland Raiders, and today he learned that he's been named the AFC defensive player of the week. It's the second player of the week award of Brown's career; he won an NFC defensive player of the week award in 2001, when he played for the Bears. Brown is the first Chiefs safety to win the award since Jerome Woods in 1997. Both of Brown's interceptions came off Raiders backup quarterback Bruce Gradkowski, who came in after JaMarcus Russell was benched. The first int…

Okay, I am sure many have read about this by now, but it is being reported that we (Bears) are playing some games w/ the media. Sunday nights game is on NBC, and it appears standard operating procedure is for Bob Costas to interview numerous players/ personnel from each team. Well, the bears refused to have anyone appear for Costas, and NBC was forced to use some local media guys to give insight leading up to the game. There are going to be a couple trains of thought. Some will say, "who cares. Its about what happens on the field, not off." To an extent, I can understand this belief. But more and more, I just disagree. We have all heard the phrase "percep…

Reading a Q&A w/ Matt Mosley, who is a local guy for the Cowgirls, and knows the Eagles well, he was asked to name 3 weaknesses for Phily. His response, Chris Gocong is playing out of position at MLB, so he's thinking too much rather than reacting right now...Moise Fokou is a rookie starting on the strong-side. That's a mistake waiting to happen...And the Eagles don't have enough bodies in the secondary. When you have Dimitri Patterson covering Antonio Gates one-on-one late in a game, you have big-time problems. If their MLB is a weak spot, I hope to see a lot of (a) slants and ( more Forte receptions. If their SLB is a rookie, and struggling, that …

IMHO, we need to be spreading it out more. 2 TE sets or our power formations do little to advance the ball. We can't run from our power sets, and frankly, we take away weapons while doing little to improve the blocking. All these power sets do, IMHO, is make defenses more aggressively attack. What I would really like to see is more spread formations. Use more 3 and even 4 WR sets. I want to see DA used more often. I also want to move Olsen around more, like we did last year. I just have not seen us moving him around this year like we did last year. Start him at TE, but then split him outside. Have a set where you have Olsen and Hester on the outside, while r…

A Pittsburgh Steelers fan almost died, after he says a Chicago Bears fan poisoned him. Steelers fan Zack Heddinger of Pittsburgh is now blind and has brain damage. After watching their team lose in Chicago September 20, he and his friends went to "Kitty O'Sheas" Bar outside Soldier Field, all wearing Steelers jerseys. After some trash talking with Bears fans, one of those fans offered Heddinger a drink as a peace offering. A short time later, Heddinger passed out and was rushed to a hospital. He says his heart stopped four times. Doctors think he drank antifreeze. Heddinger believes the Bears fans poisoned his drink. He is undergoing oxygen trea…

Posted 9 minutes ago Bills fire Jauron after dismal 3-6 start NFL.com Wire Reports The Buffalo Bills have fired coach Dick Jauron, a team source told NFL Network's Jason La Canfora. Defensive coordinator Fewell Perry is expected to become the Bills' interim head coach, a Bills source told NFL.com's Vic Carucci. In just short of four seasons with the Bills, Jauron compiled a record of 24-33 (.421 winning percentage). The Bills failed to make the playoffs in each season under Jauron. Buffalo has not made the playoffs since 1999, the longest active streak for a non-expansion team. On Monday, defensive end Aaron Schobel questioned the Bills' l…

So I've been wondering, as I'm sure a lot of you have, why the Bears have totally abandoned the run this season. It's clear that the running game hasn't been great (although the Beekman/Omiyale swap has helped immensely) but even considering that, I haven't been able to figure out why Turner would go a whole game and only call 6 or 8 runs for Forte. To that end, here's an article from Advanced NFL Stats that's very, very worth reading, especially as it helps explain the Bears' struggles this season. The author applies some very in-depth statistical analysis and economic theory to football teams' decision-making, in terms of both their run/pass ratio and their prefe…

  12. Harris: We owe it to Lovie to play better Posted by Michael David Smith on November 16, 2009 6:53 PM ET Bears defensive tackle Tommie Harris says he and his teammates need to get to the playoffs not just for themselves, but for coach Lovie Smith -- who, according to Harris, has been so good to the players that they must repay him by playing well. "We owe it to him," Harris said Monday. "That guy has been great to us from training camps to what he's done with the facilities. Different things that you see other coaches really don't care about, but this guy has come in and helped us out tremendously, and we owe it back to him." It's a little surprising that Ha…

I got to thinking about how excited everyone was about the RB screen. It was successful, looked great, and had my jaw on the floor the entire game. I'm sure that every Bears' fan was pumped to see this play, one that has NEVER worked, be so successful. Here's the problem: it's a sign of the Bears' failure. Why does a RB screen usually succeed? The offensive gameplan is successful enough that the OL can almost toy with the DL. The DL rushes in, almost oblivious to their newfound success at getting to the QB. The RB and OL scoot through, set up things, and the RB screen is successful. Why is this a problem, you ask? The Niners' DL was so used to blasting throug…

There is an interesting article on NFL.com about Free Agency in an uncapped year and how it is not going to be lucrative for players and the new rules for FA that are involved. It seems to me it might make it even more difficult to obtain key FAs to rebuild an OL which is what we so desperately need. NFL.com Article on 2010 Free Agency with Uncapped Year

I am disgusted after this week more than I have been in a long time. With that said, the INTs are deceiving in my opinion. INT #1: This was a forced throw by Cutler, but he was left with little choice. The play-calling on this set of downs was typical Turner, and absolutely atrocious. Two runs up the middle on first and second lead the Bears to a third and goal, and EVERYONE in the world knew it was going to be a pass. So, why play action at all? The run didn't fool anyone. And even if the Niners were stupid enough to maybe expect a run, which they weren't, it wasn't like they'd be scared anyway because they just stuffed it on the previous two plays. At that p…

This hasn't been talked about, but does anyone think that we've seen the end of Pace. Shaffer came in against the 49ers because Pace got the "wind knocked out of him". I'm not buying that.

I want more Devin A. Does anyone know if he has ever seen the field before that play where he made that tip toe catch. It was so refreshing to see such a play. I cannot remember a catch like that for a bear player in a long time. It looked like a catch that other teams make, because of his size and just the way it looked. I was like "where did that come from"

I believe one of cutlers problems is he does not pump the ball. I've always got on the Bear's qb for not pumping the ball. P.Manning does it up to 3 times a play sometimes I'm always see Big Ben do it, Farve,Brees and many other do it consistantly. I believe 2 red zone ints could of went for td's if he'd pump it once.I know our line sucks, but there are times where I'm yelling at cutler to pump the damn ball,it works, it works, it works. It's all the little chit that seems to not be tought that pisses me off. I can hadle mistakes, but the little things that never seem to be a fixture just irritate me. I talked about a few of them the other day ago here but do not want to r…

From PFT, Cutler fined $20,000 for "abusive conduct" Jay Cutler has doled out a lot of abuse of late. He punished Bears fans and fantasy owners with five interceptions Thursday night, not to mention viewers tuning in to Thursday Night Football looking for a quality game. Now he's been fined $20,000 for "abusive conduct" toward a game official in Chicago's loss to the Cardinals five days ago, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Cutler was flagged during the game for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty when he complained to referee Ed Hochuli about a non-call on a fourth-and-4 in the third quarter in which Cutler thought Greg Olsen was held.
