The Trib says the Bears are also looking at Bushrod and Cook and might have to choose between the two. I say if the Bears can get out of FA with either Long or Bushrod, I'd consider it a success. I'd even pay a little more for Long, all things being equal. I don't love Cook, and think it might be more prudent to sign a second-tier potential starter at TE (I've always liked Delanie Walker) and spend the extra $ at LT and look at TE and OG in the first round of the draft.

Last year I bought lemonej3 and lemonej2 whose birthday is 9-27 matching Forte jerseys. It was really hard to evaluate the team as a whole with so many players injured. On offense, no Monty, Pringle, Jones, Kmet, Reiff, Griffin, O'Shaughnessy, Harry and Patrick. At least 4 starters out. On defense, no Quinn, Muhammad, Blackson, Smith, Gordon, Vildor, Graham, Jackson, or Cruikshank. At least 5 starters out. Fields, playing against first teamers, didn't turn the ball over. This may not seem like a big deal but no fumbles or INTs is a positive. He looked much better overall, but with so many starters out, the entire offense is a work in progress. The guy is an offensive guru in the college ranks and has a long history of calling plays. He called them in Tennessee for a couple of years with Vince Young there and while that might not have been a great fit for the offense Chow likes, I think Cutler would be a perfect fit for him. I'd be all for Chow, in fact, I'd like him more than any other candidate. Chow was the offensive mind behind the early USC offenses with Palmer/Leinart.

We are in the quiet period of Bears talk since most beat writers are taking vacations while coaches and players are doing the same before camp.
