  1. Saints are expected to bring Moss in for a workout.
  2. Perhaps more reasonable and interesting Bears target:
  3. This is a complicated one. If the long term plan were to move Williams back to LT, then he could give you a 1-2 year bridge to a guard drafted this year. But that's a lot of steps that have to happen for this to make sense.
  4. Bowe's side probably held out for a while hoping they'd decide to use the tag on that CB they have.
  5. Jackson ought to get more money since he's been healthier.
  6. Former Saints LB Scott Fujita getting "Dragged into" this, whatever that means.
  7. Numbers: That's what, $8 million a year then and frontloaded? That's not a bad deal at all, and if that's the WR market right now that helps the Bears out some.
  8. That's a similar guarantee to what I'd expect Forte to get, but I'd imagine they try to stretch his out over 5 years.
  9. Jackson will have the money thrown at him for a reason...for a team in dire need of a WR he's the best option. The Bears are a team in dire need of a WR. Put the money on the table for both of them and say that the first one who calls back and says yes gets it.
  10. I think that there were a couple parts to the failure of the Bears O-line last year. First, they lost their 2 most talented guys, that would hurt any team. Secondly, they also lost all the guys who helped make that O-line work...they lost Cutler and Forte, and it was those 2 going down that really wound up dismantling the offense. The guys who came in afterwards didn't have the pacing down and were trying to run Martz's system where they let things develop downfield. Cutler learned pretty quick he couldn't do that if max-protection wasn't there, so he would still be moving or stepping up or whatever it took to keep a play alive. Throw in Martz's refusal to ever help out with a chip or anything that would slow down the receiver heading out, an it's a recipe for a mess. Omiyale would have broken records for awfulness if in there.
  11. If Carimi winds up not being healthy, then COllins would be decent there also...gives you a RT who can step in.
  12. I see, the GM's wanted sleep.
  13. With how they describe Anthony Collins, it suggests he's an intriguing option that might be had for less than the price of a front line tackle. That'd be something that would catch my interest if I were in that GM spot...with the number of bodies available for the Line I'm still not a fan of paying for a top of the line guy, but they absolutely need another guy who can step in and cover a spot in the event of another rash of injuries or a complete Webb collapse. If Collins were available for good but not great money, they could grab him, call the tackle spots more of an open competition, and still be able to sign the top flight WR I'd like to see them sign. That would then leave the entire draft, with 4 picks in the first 3 rounds, to fill in the 2nd WR, DE, CB, and OLB spots, in addition to having some money left over to provide depth at those spots.
  14. I'd still take Jackson first, but on the off chance the Chargers change their mind, then Colston becomes the guy you call at 12:01.
  15. This would be a reasonable strategy (and I want the WR).
  16. And if the Bears did that, then they'd need a RB. Anyway, having Colston on the market is a great thing for the Bears. Makes the upgrade they need plausible, and if they can't afford the guard, having Nicks out there will knock off 1 team from overpaying for another lineman, or knock off a team from drafting one.
  17. Hasn't most of the big impact of Peppers' deal already hit? I could have swore Angelo front-loaded that so that he was cuttable if he didn't keep up his work ethic.
  18. Then there's your chance to move Carimi back to LT?
  19. The entire amount would count as Guaranteed on the franchise tag.
  20. I don't think the years would matter nearly as much as the guaranteed dollars, and I think he's pushing for closer to $20 million in the guaranteed dollar amounts. And I think Angelo was trying to hold closer to $15, which probably wasn't the wrong move on his part given that Forte still had to get through last year to reach this point.
  21. Well sure, if someone ridiculously highly rated at any position falls to the Bears they should probably grab them. If Andrew Luck falls to 19, the Bears should probably consider drafting him even though they have a QB...but the odds of that happening are moderately low. Guard just isn't a position where "Depth" makes the Bears better. At tackle right now, Depth makes the Bears better because it replaces Omiyale with someone who won't be the worst player on the field. At guard right now, it takes a real legit immediate upgrade to make the Bears better, and that's unlikely to be found in the 2nd round.
  22. This is the single biggest upgrade of the Bears offseason. And that is not sarcasm.
  23. If nothing else happens, the backup tackle needs replaced. Tarring and feathering the previous guy might be appropriate while you're at it.
  24. I'd be opposed to the idea that this should be plan A, B, or C. WR is just one of those positions that takes time to really develop in most cases, and especially coming in with a new offensive coordinator and new system, it's going to take Cutler and any WR you draft time to grow together. If you plug in a veteran, yes he has to pick up a new system, but he doesn't have to learn the NFL at the same time. Picking up a veteran in FA gives the Bears ammunition to compete this year, drafting a WR may or may not do so depending on how well you hit with the player. Even good WR's can take half a year to really get acclimated. If the Bears wash out on 3-4 different WR's, but they can manage to fill other holes like O and D line, CB, and TE in free agency, and they go into the draft with only a real need at WR, then you do what you have to do.
