  1. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/...ver-four-years/ Forte deal has base value of $30.4 million over four years Posted by Mike Florio on July 19, 2012, 12:58 AM EDT AP Bears running back Matt Forte previously said he doesn’t need to be the highest-paid running back in the NFL. And that’s a good thing. Because his new deal puts him far from it. On one hand, Forte will be paid handsomely. On the other hand, multiple other running backs have better deals, including the franchise-tagged running back from Baltimore who signed a new deal later in the same day Forte got paid. Initially reported as a four-year, $32 million contract on Monday, Forte’s deal is actually worth $30.4 million. The difference knocks the average from $8 million down to $7.6 million, which is less than the $7.7 million he would have earned under the franchise tag in 2012. The good news is that the deal guarantees $13.8 million for injury and skill at signing, with another $3.3 million guaranteed for injury only. The $17.1 million in guaranteed money exceeds (barely) the money Forte would have earned under the franchise tag in 2012 and 2013. According to a source with knowledge of the contract, here’s the full breakdown: 1. Signing bonus of $4 million; 2. Roster bonus of $5 million, due three days after the deal is signed; 3. Base salary of $800,000 in 2012, fully guaranteed; 4. Roster bonus of $4 million due on third day of 2013 league year, guaranteed for injury and skill at signing; 5. Base salary of $1.7 million in 2013, guaranteed for injury through the fifth day of the 2013 league year, at which time it becomes fully guaranteed; 6. Workout bonus of $100,000 in 2013; 7. Roster bonus of $31,250 per game in 2013; 8. Base salary of $5.5 million in 2014, $1.6 million of which is guaranteed for injury through the fifth day of the 2013 league year, at which time it becomes fully guaranteed (another $1 million becomes guaranteed for injury only on the fifth day of the 2014 league year); 9. Workout bonus of $100,000 in 2014; 10. Roster bonus of $53,125 per game in 2014; 11. Base salary of $6.5 million in 2015; 12. Workout bonus of $100,000 in 2015; 13. Roster bonus of $65,625 per game in 2015. Those numbers, while solid in isolation, nevertheless put Forte behind six other running backs on each of a variety of key measurables. We’ll break it all down in a separate post on Thursday morning.
  2. Devil's Advocacy... They will be a major threat regardless... A. We are a divisional foe. History has shown you can virtually throw out records, etc. The odd team will win a game it shouldn't in rivalries such as ours. But to address the points head on: 1. If Cutler is decapitated in week 2, besides holding a very sentimental memorial service...the Bears will employ Jason Campbell to run the show who did a pretty good job with the hapless Raiders last season before getting hurt. Obviously Campbell is no Cutler, but he is a legit threat. 2. Odds are if Marshall punched a stripper, she probably threw a bottle at a group of nuns and children trying to get donations for schooling. Thus defending the defenseless and would get a pass from Goodell. In fact, maybe an award. 3. Putting away a pouty face has no impact on results what so ever. Moot point if ever there was one. Devil's advocate or not. I don't like mayonaise. Someone doesn't like Cutler's face. Bears win regardless of either 2 dislikes. 4. Our D are not in line for elderly housing or Geritol shots yet. They are older, but not decrepid. Even if we lose 1 or 2 of those guys, someone else is bound to take charge and make it happen. It's Bears' tradition to do so. 5. Conte looked pretty damn good as a rookie. I think he can play. So there's at least one. The law of averages are on our side. We're bound to strike gold with something after so many misses. 6. I could care less what Tice's IQ is. I just care that he can have the O ready to play. I think he can. And given that he's given some more leeway to Cutty, by default, the O should be smarter than last season. Even if all the bad things happen that this Packers dolt sees as negatives, we'll still be in the mix for a Wild Card. You can play the same game about the Packers as well. I'd like to take this fool's bet that the Packers will be 3 games better than any NFC divisional foe...
  3. Troll! All kidding aside, all this is like a professional witness. Either side can usually come up with reasons one way or another. The only thing I take away is that some dolt Packers fans is actually worried about us. Most people don't bring things up unless they bother them. I'm personally readying my Scotch and cigar to celebrate our Super Bowl win this season... One of many in a row to come. We are going to kick ass. In '85 it was D with a sufficient O. In '12, it'll be O with a sufficient D.
  4. Will the keeper rules still be the same? if so, can you post the draft again if you still have it to determine which rounds we'll lose depending on who we keep?
  5. Some more info.... http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/...lorenzo-booker/ I just get the vibe we didn't like Alexander, just another warm body at a bargain basement rate...
  6. I just officially signed in... Looking forward to it!
  7. Look at the source. It's a Packers fan. Intelligence need not be a part...
  8. I could give a flying f*&% what any Packers fan thinks of the Bears...
  9. I'm in! I just got the e-mail and will be going into the account probably tomorrow or Wed.
  10. Anyone know the cap implications? Glad to have him set in the fold. I was prepared to go one without him, but I'm really glad we don't have to. I like him. Anyone know who is next on trying to get a Long Term deal with? Cutty? Url? Overall, I feel this bodes well for the Emery regime.
  11. Must be the sign of the apocalypse! No problem!
  12. I'm pretty much in 100% agreement with your assessment. My real focus is getting Cutty and Url signed in all honesty...
  13. Alaska, My friend Mike, just e-mailed me and said the site will be up shortly... But to sign in here: fanskrit.com He'll make sure you get the discount, just mention my MadLithuanian name. Also, feel free to contact him direct at michael@fanskrit.com. He said he'd personally take care of you. He has a killer Peppers shirt I have. I don't have a pic, but he might.
  14. There should be a link to the e-mail. But let me ask him about his website. I think it's on Facebook.
  15. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/...tagged-players/ Report: Few deals expected for franchise-tagged players Posted by Darin Gantt on July 13, 2012, 10:20 AM EDT Getty Images With the clock ticking on the 14 franchise-tagged players who haven’t signed long-term deals, the prognosis is mixed on whether more than a few will get a contract or play out their one-year tenders. Jason LaCanfora of CBSSports.com said “perhaps only three or four deals will actually get struck,” before Monday’s deadline, based on conversations with league sources. He counts Drew Brees among the likely to get done, based largely on the fact it’s inconceivable to other general managers that the Saints wouldn’t do what’s necessary to lock him up. Brees himself is optimistic, but it seems like the assumption he’ll be signed is stronger than any evidence of movement. LaCanfora also cites Bears running back Matt Forte as likely, claiming “considerable progress,” and mentions Raiders safety Tyvon Branch as “the closest of all this group to a deal.” LaCanfora said a source with knowledge of the Patriots talks with wide receiver Wes Welker termed it “50-50” that a deal gets done. Otherwise, it sounds like it could be a slow weekend for most of the tagged players.
  16. http://us2.campaign-archive1.com/?u=c6857e...mp;e=ed764656ed A friend of mine heads up this company in Chicago. I have a couple killer T's from them. The Url design looks really cool. Give it a check out if you guys are looking for a shirt that everyone doesn't have!
  17. I understand all the viewpoints here...but let's just put it to rest and say that the better player usually comes up with the ball...regardless of shorter or taller. I hope Jeffrey is the "better" player... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoRzn3ZVTa0
  18. Or less eloquently put, we all are getting hit with residual splash from the pi$$ing contest!
  19. The exceptions that make the rule... I hope Jeffrey is one of those too. But, let's not bank on it. Plus Jones was a highly touted guy... Nelson didn't really come on until year 2. Green was a nice surprise.
  20. I can't say I'm remotely worried. Yet. And even if he's not 100%, we aren't banking on him 100%. We hope to have him for many moons!
  21. Agreed. Bottom line, give the kid some time. In the meantime, Hester will probably do better for all the reasons previously mentioned on numerous threads. Jeffery will get more and more time to shine as the season progresses. Hopefully he'll make the most of it and become a factor as we ease into the eventual Super Bowl win.
