I tend to agree... However, with that said, I would love to see Steltz get a legit shot assuming all else being equal. I really want Manning as a nickel/dime back. he excells in that position. Give a different guy a shot at playing alongside Steltz. Payne? Bullocks? I don't have an answer really... We need more talent back there regardless. But i think Steltz could surprise.

Agreed. My hope is the first pick is OL... Then after that I'd prefer another OL, but if there is a great saftey to be had, then do it. It's a need as well. But OL first.

Hate the scheme, love the player... Urlacher can hide many of the scheme's weaknesses. So will the oopmh of Peppers. But intrinsically, it's flawed and can be plundered by a sharp shooter.

I lost my mind a while back! Henceforth the "Mad" in my namesake! On paper I love the idea. And as in great shape Willie is in, getting hit isn't the same as practicing. But, with that said, since Smith doens't allow tackling at the training camps, Gault would tear it up! I think it would be a fun story if we brought him in for a tryout...

The point is that given that a player performs well on Sunday, do you really give a flying s*%& what his practice habits are or how well he performs in a HC's sun tanning drill? While one should care if a guy beats his wife, kills people, etc...that a guy doesn't practice great, should be a non-issue. I call BS man! You are totally defending Smith by attempting to place more blame on the GM and players! You are also completely playing Devil's Advocate because, even as you say, you've been all over Smith in the past. And the start of your post hints at the glee of just arguing for argument's sake! If we had a better HC, we would have been in the playoffs these past 2 years. If not the past 3. And would have won the Super Bowl. Hey, I don't like JA either! I want him out too! But I think a better HC can make up for some of JA's shortcomings, while a buffoon like Smith makes the problems worse. JA may have started the fire, but instead of bringing water, Smith throws gasoline. There is no doubt in my mind, that Smith is far more to blame regarding our current woes than JA.
