Oh by the way I get back on May 2_If you have any plumbing problems, I'd be glad to do free . I feel bad that you had such a stressful year. Be glad to help out a brother Bear alum.

Thanks, Stinger. I appreciate your offer.

If you dont respond harshly to me, I wont have to say anything.

That's the problem. You have been super sensitive ever since your issues with Stinger. Just because I said you were the only one I knew of who was trying to put a positive spin on the ND game doesn't mean I was busting your balls. Hell, there are over 8 billion people on Earth, over 340 million in the US. I'm sure there must be others who share your opinion. 😉

Please, just lighten up. I am a super passive individual. I could never troll or flame anyone. At 75 years old I have never once been involved in a physical altercation. I have always taught my kids to turn the other cheek. So you are reading me wrong. I am not the enemy! I'm a cuddly teddy bear. LOL

Cut it out, read what I write. Thanks.

    I agree. Cut it out!

Every time I disagree with you: (choose 1 or more options)

    a) I miss read you.

    b) I disrespected you.

    c) I flamed you.

    d) I am a troll.

Give me a f***ing break. I can't disagree with you without you insulting me and accusing me of trying to pick a fight?

Yes, you admitted it was a bad game. Then you try to put a positive spin on it, saying he improved in the 2nd half. Maybe ND, with such a big lead after scoring 3 TDs on CW's INTs in the 1st half, was playing a more conservative game in the 2nd half? Prevent D. Substitutions? No, he didn't quit. But with one TD in the entire game, it is hard to say he turned it around in the 2nd half.

It's no big deal. Let's not argue over such a stupid point when we should both be looking forward to Thursday night when CW holds up a Bears' jersey with the #1 on it.

you must have, since the USC offense only managed two field goals in the first half, but scored two touchdowns in the second half, after going down 24-6 in the first half. No one quit. Certainly not Caleb.

Williams threw 3 interceptions that day, but he also had a 62% completion percentage and threw for 200 yards.

Every QB and team has bad games, but Williams didn't quit or collapse, he continued fighting, and had a better second half than first half, showing grit and competitiveness.

Yep, he went 23/37 and threw one TD and three INTs for 199 YDS. Everyone, including CW, says it like it was. A BAD game. No one except you tries to make it sound positive. It wasn't. He had a bad game—one game of shame over the course of a brilliant three-year college career.

I like CW and have high expectations. The article listed is very positive. It points out how three top NFL quarterbacks had a game like CW's ND fiasco. They certainly prove that one bad college game does not make them a high-risk prospect.

That is a great article. It starts off on a negative note on Williams, but don't be fooled. It shows the similarities between Williams' terrible game against ND and the really bad games that Mahomes, J Allen, and L Jackson had in college (and how those games, just like the ND game for CW, caused some concerns on draft day). Basically, it says three of the top QBs in the NFL today had games in college that compared to the ND game, but it certainly misled the naysayers.

This very detailed article is well worth reading for those wanting to load up on info on Williams before Thursday's draft.

My expectation is 10 wins.  But, my greater hope is that no matter the win/loss (which losses can also be just attributed to defense), is the Caleb looks the part.  Not just flashes.  But some consistency.  I'm waiting on the mistakes.  They'll happen.  But, I want to see a prolific passer.  All the signs point to that.

I remember reading, shortly after his signing, a critique of our new OC by a Seattle fan. His complaint was that he liked to push the ball downfield too much, going for big plays and that it wasn't a balanced offense. There were too many passes and not enough runs.

If this critique holds any truth (and I can't confirm if it does), it could make for an interesting dynamic. Caleb's 'hero ball' mentality, combined with the talented WRs/TEs at his disposal, could potentially give us a high-scoring offense.

Seen where Philadelphia wants to move up and we have a connection with Cunningham . They have 22+50+53 and three 6 th round picks.

Would you ?  For 2 seconds, and a 6th. rounder, obviously pick 22

Without a doubt, yes, but I doubt they'd offer both 2nd rounders. If they did, it would be an awesome opportunity to fill three needs, after the selection of CW, with quality players in the top 53 of the draft. Then we'd still have a 3rd, 4th and their 6th. Yowsa!

Slow your roll big fella.  Vegas has us at 8.5.  I'm taking the over.

Hell no., 10 wins minimum unless we suffer significant injuries to our blue-chip players.

Last year, the Bears won 7 games. There were 2 games I still cannot figure out how we lost, which would have made it 9 wins.

We've made strategic changes to our coaching staff, bolstered our defense with a legit Safety, and added depth to our offense with a RB, TE, WR, and strengthened our OL. These are significant improvements that should inspire confidence.

Now it appears we will draft our franchise QB and add another blue-chip player.

That isn't worth another 2 or 3 wins?

Nope, there's no reason to slow my roll.

With only a few days until the draft are you getting excited or do you have anxiety?  All the conjecture and BS stops on draft night.  Are the anti-Williams folks resigned to the choice or still hoping for a last minute surprise?   Is your focus more on the second pick at this point?   I’m hoping for an Offensive Tackle myself

More importantly, how are you feeling about the season?  Things should be much improved but we’ll have a rookie QB.  There are obvious exceptions but usually that’s a tough first year.

Lastly, are there any FA’s left that you’d add depending on what happens in the draft?

Oh, Hell Yeah. Excited isn't the word to describe what I'm feeling. I haven't been this 'excited' since my wife and I left the wedding reception in '73 to return to our hotel room. 😉

With our limited picks, Poles will wait to see cuts from other teams after the draft. Hopefully, the FAs available will match our needs to fill any holes needed until we finish the roster rebuilding process next year.

If we have any less than 10 wins next year I will be disappointed.

Now is the time I need to buy a new TV to better enjoy the upcoming season.

OH, Yeah, my friend! We are going to rock!

I also saw something indicating that they were having preliminary discussions about contract and that was going well.

I read the Bleacher Report often and found this article interesting. I still suspect it will be a difficult contract negotiation. I was surprised by the last paragraph of the article (see below). Although I hope the author's viewpoint is correct, I think it is presumptive. CW, make it so!

Of course, Williams is a slam dunk to be a superstar at the NFL level, but with the Bears building a strong roster around him, he will have all the tools needed to succeed right away.

If Marvin Harrison Jr. falls to 5, would you trade the #9 pick and our first round pick next year to move up and draft him?

    Peace

Personally, I wouldn't. Maybe our #9 and our 2nd from next year - which will hopefully be around pick #64 😉

I love Nabers and RO as much as Harrison. All three have the potential to be future Pro Bowlers and top-five WRs.

If we have a great QB, isn't his ability to sidestep pressure and quick throws going to make the line better?

    NO! LOL

Statistically, yes. Anyone looking at the in-depth game stats will see an improvement in the number of sacks/hits/pressures allowed. However, stats can be misleading. Remember when, according to the 'stats,' Leno was a top-tier OLT instead of a turnstile for any speed rusher opposite him?

While having CW on our side will undoubtedly make life easier for the OL, it's crucial for them to demonstrate their potential and strive to be a top-10 OL. This is the key to unlocking the full explosive potential of our offense, which we all eagerly anticipate.

Everyone has an opinion and I value people that did the job before more than so called media experts. I guarantee you  percentage wise, they are right more than media experts and fans. You're right people that own them jobs get fired all the time.

None of them are right all the time, but I watched Rick Speilman on 5 podcasts and, he's a very smart guy. I also value Greg Gabriel and Dave Wannsted opinions . From the people I trust, they say we aren't drafting a OT. I also believe that.  Their is no right or wrong opinions, just right or wrong facts. It's all subjective.

I value Spielman's opinions. I was sorry he left the Bears, but he deserved his promotion. I have also always enjoyed listening to Greg Gabriel. I'm not a big Wannsted fan, but I love hearing what Charles Davis says.

So we all (except for PHX?).) have our favorite professionals to read/listen to for their opinions. But, as you noted, you are not claiming they are right; you just value their opinion. The same is true here.

  14. I just saw this proposed trade on NFL.com as one of three possible round 1 trades that would be a win/win for teams involved. This one had Chicago trading #9 to KCC. I personally do not like the deal. The first, being the last pick of rd 1, and he second rounder, again near the bottom of round 2, are not much better than a 2nd & 3rd instead of a 1st & 2nd. The extra 4th round is cool, but the 2025 #1 will probably be near the end of round 1.

What do you guys think? Would you do this trade?

2025 first-round pick | 740 points (valued at the 24th pick in the round)

  15. I'm noticing some recent mock drafts showing the Bears trading down and then drafting JC Latham (Alabama · OT).

Is he a blue-chip OT? I don't know the guy.

On a side note, the last one I saw with this trade-down scenario pissed me off because they had us trading down with the Colts, who then selected Nabers at #9. If the Bears passed on Nabers I'd be pissed.

  16. Anthony Thomas was the last Bear player to be named OROY (in 2001).

After 23 years, Caleb Williams wins OROY.

The runner-up to CW for OROY is Rome Odunze, WR, Chicago Bears.

    One can only dream. 😉

  17. Just saw this article on NFL.com.

I have always thought highly of Charles David as an analyst for NFL.com. He has had success identifying players who are not as well known as the ones getting all of the hype, but wind up being drafted and making rosters.

This article identifies 16 prospects that he thinks could be drafted on day 2 or 3 of the draft. The only one I recognized was QB Rattler. There were several DTs, Edge, OGs, an OT, and a Center that he is high on. Maybe you guys are familiar with some of them.

or maybe like in 1995 trading trace armstrong a 7-10 sack defensive end for a 2nd and 3rd round pick to miami and then drafting tod saurkraut a freaking punter in the 2nd round and a non descript guard in the 3rd?

brilliant, trade a producing defensive end for a punter and nothing guard. only mikey the genius gm could come up with that.

100% - That was vintage Mikey.

for sure if our scouts are telling Poles that, and that's what he's seeing, then for sure. No reason to trade up.

But *IF* you think he's the next coming, and head and shoulders above the others, if you think you've got Randy Moss here, I think you do it.

Personally, I haven't seen enough film on them to know either way. I know they are all good.

I watched film on the top three and I seriously am not sure the order I would select them. They are all fantastic, each with their own strengths. If either one of the three are there at 9, I would be disappointed if we did not stay put and draft him. That said, I'd get over my disappointment if we wound up with Thomas. LOL

I think the question would be, who else would take him first, and where. If you had a very good feeling his first other suitor would be in round 6, then you can wait until 5 to take him?

True. But I first responded to a 'what if' draft. He had multiple trade-backs, accumulating extra picks. Therefore, I thought picking a Punter over a player who would probably not contribute this year would be best. The pick, #122, was the last of the picks he had accumulated with the trade downs. It was for that specific scenario that I suggested using it for a punter.

I don't advocate drafting a punter unless we have accumulated extra draft capital. There will always be UDFA punters to bring in for tryouts.
