So I have been doing a little digging interestingly enough.

From the 2022 draft, based on AV, there are 85 players that have contributed at a starter or above level (262 total drafted/32%). The Bears have 3 starter quality players from that draft, Braxton Jones, Jaquan Brisker, and Kyler Gordon (just squeaked in at the bottom). There were 8 other players drafted by the Bears in 2022 (11 in total/27%), including Velus Jones in the 3rd, and none of them made the list. Braxton was the only pick beyond the 2nd round to hit.

In the 2023 draft, there were 57 players to make the list as starter level contributors (out of 259 total players/22%). The Bears selected 10 players in this draft. 3 of them made the list (30%). Darnell Wright, Tyrique Stevenson, and Roschon Johnson. Of those 3, Roschon was the only pick beyond the 2nd round to make the list.

So Poles has hit on 4 out of 5 1st/2nd round picks. His only miss right now is Dexter. From the 3rd to 7th though, he has hit on 2/15 (Braxton and Roschon).

In the last two drafts, there have been 521 total draftees, and 142 players made the list (27.3%). The Bears had 6 players make the list out of 21 drafted (28.6%). So Poles is drafting 1.3% better than the NFL average. He is above average in the 1st two rounds and below average from 3rd to the 7th. I think that is why he is not opposed to trading picks from later rounds.

I actually expect Poles to use future draft capital later in the draft to move up in this year's draft.

Personally, I hope Poles resist the temptation to use future draft picks to move up.

It's this use of future draft capital that has us sitting with what? 4 picks vs Detroit's 11 ?

    Put the Draft CC away.

  2. It's a message to all players on our roster.

Be a Bear. Support your community. Support your teammates on the field and in the locker room. Work hard, give us 100%. (Justin did all of this!)

If you succeed, we will reward you with an extension. (See Kmet & JJ)

If it doesn't work out after giving us your best, we will do right by you. (Justin)

That doesn't mean we can offer you an extension or pay you above market value. As a player you understand this is a business.

However, if we have to part ways, we'll do all we can to make sure you land on your feet and are in a good situation that will offer you a chance to start over and continue to strive to be your best.

Poles did what he thought was needed to give Justin a chance to succeed going forward.

We don't know what he was offered for Justin by other teams or if there were any offers given.

But I assure you, I do know that Poles gained the respect of the locker room by handling a very difficult situation in a dignified manner.

BTW, You do know that if we draft Caleb, Poles will probably hug him!

I think Courtney Cronin said Philly and Detroit were two of them.

I could certainly see why Justin wouldn't want to hold the clipboard for Hurts. He'd maybe get one or two starts a year due to Hurts being injured. As far as Detroit, HELL NO, Poles don't want him in our division because, quite frankly, JF1 will eventually figure it all out and be an upper-echelon quarterback.

He probably will but is there any scenario that might change his choice? With Fields gone, does Washington load up the haul to get pick one? What could change his mind?

I'm not routing for a different outcome but since we don't have anything to fight about anymore, what are all our options?

Poles loves athletic players, Jayden Daniels is that, had the best 2023 year in college,  offers a better run option.

    Trade: pick 1 for

                Pick 2

                Pick 36 + 40

                Pick 78

                Pick 152

                 2025 pick one

                 2026_pick one

    What say you

    I love it!

I posted this link before, not sure if anyone checked it out as there was no response.

I love the QB analysis series by Kurt Warner. He does an awesome review of prospects.

He is very high on J Daniels. He points out that the last QB taken from LSU, who was also a Heisman Trophy winner, was Joe Burrows. He thinks Daniels could be every bit as successful. He also states that a few NFL Execs have Daniels rated above C Williams!

A trade down to #2 with the draft picks gained from your proposed trade would allow us to draft Daniels at #2 and then finish the offseason goals to strengthen all of our weaknesses identified last year. We could get our WR with pick 9 if one of the top 3 is there. We could get our Center, Edge,  and DT taken care of. Check out the link. The video is less than 5 minutes, so it's well worth the time!

  5. I think the problem was not so much the opinions of other GMs about Justin as the unusually large number of quality quarterback options available this offseason, many of which are obtainable without giving up draft capital. I'm not sure I ever remember so many quarterbacks moving to new clubs or, at the last minute, resigning with their team. Supply and demand. Although there was a huge demand, there were too many options available to fill the demands.

I see that but it's tough for me to use a valuable 2nd Rd pick on a guy hoping he gets in shape.  He had several weeks to get prepared for the Senior Bowl and if that job interview with millions of dollars on the line wasn't enough to motivate him then what will?  Should he fall to day 3 and we want to take a chance there then I'm good with that but there is far too much talent in the middle of Rd 2 for me to take that risk.

I see your point. He should have been motivated.

Let's hope we have a round 2 selection to begin with. LOL

They want the first pick. They now have 11 and 23 in the first round. What else can we get from them? They still have next years first. Jordon Addison? Played with Williams.

Because they are in our division, they'd have to pay a premium.

    11 & 23 from this years 1st rd PLUS, a minimum of a 1st in 2025 and a 2nd in 2026.

Otherwise, screw them. Sorry, no love loss for the Vikes.

    Starting 22:

    QB - Fields or Williams
    RB - Swift
    WR - Moore
    TE - Kmet
    OT - Jones
    OG - Jenkins
    OC - Shelton
    RG - Davis
    RT - Wright
    TE - Everett or WR3 - Scott
    WR - Allen

    DE - Sweat
    DT - Billings
    DT - Dexter
    DE - Walker
    LB - Edmunds
    LB - Edwards
    CB - Johnson
    CB - Stevenson
    CB - Gordon
    FS - Byard
    SS - Brisker

So the worst players in these 22 are Scott on offense, and probably Walker and Dexter on defense. So WR3, Edge2, and DT are really the only spots where an upgrade is likely.

I'd love to see Scott turn it around this year. Most of us had high expectations for his rookie season. For whatever reason, he struggled. I am hoping that with the rookie year behind him and with the addition of KA, he can become a productive WR for us.

I think Poles had a 4 year rebuild that may have arrived in year 3.

One of the reasons for this is the fantastic trade he crafted with Carolina last year.

Will the enormous success of that trade influence him to repeat trading #1?

Or does he cash out, accepting his bounty without going for the gold via trade 2.0?

SOB, Poles hits another home run in the bottom of the 7 th. Allen will be 32 , be is still productive. 108-1243-7 Even if he slows down a bit you still have a high level player. This is his last year of his contract and we will have to pay 23 mil of it. I except them to add a few years and get it down to 18 mil.A year.

Allen was never a speed guy at 4.71 forty so his game won't be as effected much by being a little slower.

I like Allen, but his age is a concern, and giving up another draft pick, cripes. If this keeps up, we won't need to turn in to see the Bears draft; we won't have any picks after the first round (unless his tossing picks around so freely indicates his possible trade of our first-round picks).

I'm not saying that isn't a good idea, I don't think Poles takes one this year. His feather in his cap in his first year was drafting a 5 th round pick that made good. Was ranked 18 th among OTs. This year his injury affected him early but played well at the end of the season. With all of our needs, I don't think he's redrafting positions quite yet.

But will Poles want to pay starting LOT money for him to resign when his rookie deal expires?

  12. My memory sucks, but I know for sure these are in the "Keep Fields" corner:

    Chase Daniels
    Jared Allen
    Vinnie Iyer (of Sporting News)
Joe Broback (of Pro Football Network)

I think for every "Keep Fields" advocate, there are two who insist we need to "Trade/Cut Fields"

    Me?

Keep Fields, but draft a top QB prospect, preferably with one of the picks from a record-setting trade of #1.

He's been told he's not being traded.. That's why you haven't heard from him.

Or maybe Justin has no idea what Poles will ultimately decide to do and is, therefore, on vacation, which he said was his plan while things settled, and has nothing to tell reporters.
