Here's a few crying heroes from that list (crying in sports not in life):

    Mike Tyson

    Deion Sanders

TOm Brady crying about where he was drafted

Walter Payton cried when he wasnt drafted higher

Im sure there are more examples too, but a quick google made the point i think?

    Any being cuddled by mommy?

Payton cried that he didnt get a TD in the superbowl.

Sometimes when people care a lot, they get emotional when they are physically exhausted and come up short having given it all on the field?

He didn't cry in his mommy's lap!

Yes, players get emotional. But to go into the stands surrounded by fans, sit in your mother's lap, and cry is beyond anything I have ever seen. (I remember seeing something like that when I worked with prepubescent boys playing little league baseball.)

I already bought in after the Chase Daniels breakdown but I'm not in interviews or the meetings on character. Poles is the character guy  I'm more relaxed in that department.

I had heard about Caleb breaking down and crying in his mother's arms in the stadium after losing a game. But now that I saw the video posted today in this thread, it makes me puke. Could you imagine him doing a Lambeau Leap into the stands after a Bears loss and having his mommy cuddle him while he cries, in front of a stadium full of fans, shown on the big screen in the stadium, telecast for millions to see? Talk about wanting to be the face of the franchise. OMG.

He's extremely talented. But unlike many of the GOATS PHX tried to compare his brashness with, I don't ever recall any of them acting so immature after a defeat. No, it is not because he is so competitive. All GOATS are competitive. It is because he is IMMATURE!

I was totally sold on the guy, now I am totally at a loss.

(And let me add, I have no issues with a player getting emotional on the bench, or on the sidelines, after a loss. That is understandable. Going to have mommy hold you while you cry in the stands after a game is off the charts, IMO.)

I still think Roschon has a good chance to be the starter by the end of the season. But having both, in whichever order, is gonna be great.

    Herbert on the trading block?

Last year, I chose Roschon as my sleeper to shine in 2023. I obviously was over-optimistic. However, I still think he is going to be an outstanding RB in the NFL and will eventually take over as a starter for the Bears.

I like Herbert, but there is very little trade value there. It's great to have him and Roschon backing up Swift. The three together give us a very good RB combo, one that might rank in the top 5 before the season's end.

  5. My age and old-time values make me a bit of a dinosaur out of place in the Generation Alpha era.

Being invited to the NFL Combine, being drafted by an NFL team, or even being signed as a UFA is an honor only a small fraction of aspiring football players can experience.  If it were my boy who was given this opportunity, and he tried to buck the system to strut his stuff, I'd encourage him just to shut the f**k up and do as you're told. (Of course, he'd ignore my advice, as usual.)

I think he did or it would have been made a larger story. One story I read said Williams was the only player since the Combine started that didn't do his physical. It was an ESPN writer.

He could be right, but I swear that I remember other instances where a player refused to do the physical. But I could be wrong. GASP

Allen is a professional and wants to buy into the culture of the team, so he's out supporting the probable QB of his new team. Poles and Flus got him to buy in and he's doing it

Poles & Flus are nailing it this off-season.

  8. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that Allen will be here for more than one year. Let's hope Poles gets him to sign a reasonable extension. He wanted to remain a Charger but left because he would not renegotiate his contract. I can't see him giving us a discount.

SO if Allen leaves after this year, we have to work on getting DJ extended, and if that fails, where are we?

With such a potentially great WR class, I wouldn't mind seeing us draft 2 to develop.

  9. Sorry, I don't see it. Cringey? Really?

Having a fiery coach on the sidelines or giving post-game interviews is entertaining. Ditka was fun, but actually not a very good HC. We should have won more than one SB with that roster. No excuse for a one-and-done.

That said, mild-mannered HCs have been very successful. As much as I detest the Cowboys, Landry was a master.

Flus kept the team together and motivated during a very difficult rebuild when the roster was stripped down to its foundation and rebuilt over the past two years. It's still a work in progress. The players bought into his HITS system, they bonded as a team, and it takes a true leader, a HC who has the respect of the team, to accomplish that.

And yes, it's his first HC gig. He has made mistakes, but it seems like his on-the-job training is progressing at a remarkable rate. The finish of last year's slate of games was quite exciting. I saw growth. I felt hope for the future.

So you don't like the guy. Fine. But I am happy they kept a promising 1st timer instead of risking hiring a new HC like Wannstedt, Jauron, Fox, Trestman, or Nagy. Hell, compared to some of our recent HCs, Flus is amazing LOL

I haven’t seen anything that is giving me a red flag. He has only just met Poles and Flus so I cannot see why we are asking him to be all luvved up with them. He’s a young man and may be uncomfortable when greeting people. He knows Keenan Allen and wasn’t any warmer when they met.

I think he is deliberately not alienating any fan base. Ok, we have the 1st pick, everything is pointing to us taking Caleb, but how will he feel going to Washington if he totally buys into the Bears and we trade down to number 2 because we have been offered numbers 2,36, 40 in 2024 and no 1 for 2025 and 2026. Even if Poles thinks Caleb is the next coming of Mahomes, he probably makes that trade.

I'd love that trade as long as he used the #2 he received from Washington to lock in a quarterback he thinks can take us to the Super Bowl.

Cool - good question. I cant speak to the specific play (unless you find me a specific time on the film to look at), but in general when Caleb didnt get the ball out fast, he was generally looking for deeper receivers, where Justin was just afraid to throw.

I will try to find the review I mentioned. There is a short one on NFL.com, but that is not the longer tape that showed the play I referred to.

On the play I am referring to, he had plenty of time to throw to a wide-open receiver around 10 - 15 yards down the field, more than enough to get the first down, but instead of throwing it to him, he ran right up the gut and got tackled.

It's not a big deal; he is obviously an extremely good-looking prospect—I'm not denying that—but that one play took me by surprise.

I don't think we have resources to fill all the gaps.  If we are to prioritize for the rookie QB that means the defense has to suffer without a 2nd decent DE, and we have to rely upon Pickens/Dexter to improve as a 3-tech.  Or does an elite defense give the rookie his best chance to win games versus relying on a rookie WR?

That's why I was questioning a trade down. We would still select one of the top three quarterbacks, but with the draft capital gained in a huge trade, we would have the resources to finish adding blue-chip players to the defense and offense.

  13. I have to go to bed, but I want to ask PHX a simple question. (I'll check back in the morning)

I have no hidden agenda. I don't want to fight. I just want to ask a simple question to help me figure out where I am at with quarterbacks in this year's draft.

One of many negatives you pointed out about Fields was his inability to pull the trigger on wide-open receivers. It was certainly a valid point, one that had me screaming at my TV more than once when I saw it happen during a game. LOL

You even showed still images captured from the game film showing the wide-open receiver, circling him with red to be sure we saw him, even though Fields ignored him. (Or maybe he needed glasses, LOL)

Then, when I watched Kurt Warner's review, he also showed toward the end a still frame of Caleb looking right at a wide-open receiver, beyond the distance needed for a first down. Caleb didn't throw to him; instead, he ran straight forward to be tackled at the line of scrimmage. Warner even circled him with a red marker, like you did with the image of Field's analysis. I was thinking, "déjà vu"

So I know you watched this tape (I believe you said you did). Didn't this send a chill down your spine?

Again, Caleb is awesome. But I have seen him miss receivers (even on his pro day tape) Fail to pull the trigger, and play hero ball. The kid will need to clean all of that up.

Not so fast. Generally I don’t get too excited for the run up to the draft but for some reason this year is different.  I’m still in the ‘trade the 1st for more picks camp’ but yes I did like the interview earlier today…although it may have been a more veneer less substance. Need more info to draw some conclusions.

Yes, I must admit I'm not 100% Caleb. Something tells me there is a hidden gem in this quarterback class. Yes, Caleb has awesome talents, but his shit stinks just like the others. If we draft Caleb, can we give him the support needed with such little draft capital? OR, would it be better to draft a player whose ceiling might be less lofty (at #2?), but because we got a huge haul of picks in the trade down from 1 to 2 (as an example), we would be able to solidify the OL with a top OC, add a WR to field with DJ & KA, a top Edge and a 3T (all within the first 3 rds) and still have an additional 2025 1st (or more) from the trade left over for next year.

I have softened some on Maye, like Daniels a lot, but now I am beginning to look more at the kid from Michigan. For some weird reason, I am getting a bit concerned about putting a rookie quarterback on the field without a fully loaded lineup. We've seen how that works time and time again. And don't doubt it for one minute: despite many of us advocating sitting a rookie quarterback for the start of the season, teams nowadays seem to rush their rookie quarterback onto the field.

Yes, Mahomes sat. Rodgers sat. Love sat (jury still out on him!) But will the Bears sit a rookie QB or throw him into action day one?

If we are going to drop the kid into action right away, I want him to have a fully loaded squad, offense, and defense from day one.

    did MHJr do any physicals?

I feel like based on what Caleb did, the league should make the Combine physicals mandatory, if you want to come into the league.

Participating in drills and the rest, having a pro day, thats all up to the player in my opinion, but if you want in the league, you should have to do a physical?

Caleb says he only wants to do physicals for teams that could really draft him. But what about a dark horse team that wants to trade up? Do they have to alert the entire league that they are planning that in order to get a physical? Seems wrong?

    I totally agree.

Every player who accepts an invitation to the combine should agree to a complete medical evaluation.

No medical evaluation, then leave. (If for no other reason than the liability of having a player participate in the combine with a medical condition that could compromise his well-being.)

Well I'll give you this, you certainly are bringing out a new side in Pix I never knew he had.  🤣

Just to be sure you read my comments correctly, I think Pix was genuinely curious if those were 'lift-enhancing' shoes.  I responded by letting him know what I thought.  🤷‍♂️

Yes, I was just curious about the shoes. I had never seen running shoes with those types of soles. Then, as usual, things get out of hand. Now we can see why we have lost so many posters.

you and Pix would both look fabulous in high heels and a dress! ;)

WOW this is fun! Im gonna do it more, I see why you guys do it! Feels powerful!

This post brought to you by Diet Coke. ;)

Whatever turns you on, sweetie. 🥰

What color do you paint your nails, or do you use clear polish? 🤣

    Sorry, on a serious note.

I prefer my dress to be navy blue with orange highlights. Red makes me look too fat!

If we shorten the dress, I can go commando and flash the grannies in the park!

    I might get lucky! 😘

Notice the shoes? I was going to say something the other day when this picture was posted, but God forbid I be accused of flaming. I am no expert on shoe trends, but are these designed for the vertically challenged? To me, it looked like the heels were built-in lifts. I never recall seeing a tennis shoe with a sole like that before.

So I have been doing a little digging interestingly enough.

From the 2022 draft, based on AV, there are 85 players that have contributed at a starter or above level (262 total drafted/32%). The Bears have 3 starter quality players from that draft, Braxton Jones, Jaquan Brisker, and Kyler Gordon (just squeaked in at the bottom). There were 8 other players drafted by the Bears in 2022 (11 in total/27%), including Velus Jones in the 3rd, and none of them made the list. Braxton was the only pick beyond the 2nd round to hit.

In the 2023 draft, there were 57 players to make the list as starter level contributors (out of 259 total players/22%). The Bears selected 10 players in this draft. 3 of them made the list (30%). Darnell Wright, Tyrique Stevenson, and Roschon Johnson. Of those 3, Roschon was the only pick beyond the 2nd round to make the list.

So Poles has hit on 4 out of 5 1st/2nd round picks. His only miss right now is Dexter. From the 3rd to 7th though, he has hit on 2/15 (Braxton and Roschon).

In the last two drafts, there have been 521 total draftees, and 142 players made the list (27.3%). The Bears had 6 players make the list out of 21 drafted (28.6%). So Poles is drafting 1.3% better than the NFL average. He is above average in the 1st two rounds and below average from 3rd to the 7th. I think that is why he is not opposed to trading picks from later rounds.

I actually expect Poles to use future draft capital later in the draft to move up in this year's draft.

Personally, I hope Poles resist the temptation to use future draft picks to move up.

It's this use of future draft capital that has us sitting with what? 4 picks vs Detroit's 11 ?

    Put the Draft CC away.

  21. It's a message to all players on our roster.

Be a Bear. Support your community. Support your teammates on the field and in the locker room. Work hard, give us 100%. (Justin did all of this!)

If you succeed, we will reward you with an extension. (See Kmet & JJ)

If it doesn't work out after giving us your best, we will do right by you. (Justin)

That doesn't mean we can offer you an extension or pay you above market value. As a player you understand this is a business.

However, if we have to part ways, we'll do all we can to make sure you land on your feet and are in a good situation that will offer you a chance to start over and continue to strive to be your best.

Poles did what he thought was needed to give Justin a chance to succeed going forward.

We don't know what he was offered for Justin by other teams or if there were any offers given.

But I assure you, I do know that Poles gained the respect of the locker room by handling a very difficult situation in a dignified manner.

BTW, You do know that if we draft Caleb, Poles will probably hug him!

  22. 1 minute ago, adam said:

I think Courtney Cronin said Philly and Detroit were two of them.

I could certainly see why Justin wouldn't want to hold the clipboard for Hurts. He'd maybe get one or two starts a year due to Hurts being injured. As far as Detroit, HELL NO, Poles don't want him in our division because, quite frankly, JF1 will eventually figure it all out and be an upper-echelon quarterback.

  23. 11 hours ago, Stinger226 said:

He probably will but is there any scenario that might change his choice? With Fields gone, does Washington load up the haul to get pick one? What could change his mind?

I'm not routing for a different outcome but since we don't have anything to fight about anymore, what are all our options?

Poles loves athletic players, Jayden Daniels is that, had the best 2023 year in college,  offers a better run option.

    Trade: pick 1 for

                Pick 2

                Pick 36 + 40

                Pick 78

                Pick 152

                 2025 pick one

                 2026_pick one

    What say you

    I love it!

I posted this link before, not sure if anyone checked it out as there was no response.

I love the QB analysis series by Kurt Warner. He does an awesome review of prospects.

He is very high on J Daniels. He points out that the last QB taken from LSU, who was also a Heisman Trophy winner, was Joe Burrows. He thinks Daniels could be every bit as successful. He also states that a few NFL Execs have Daniels rated above C Williams!

A trade down to #2 with the draft picks gained from your proposed trade would allow us to draft Daniels at #2 and then finish the offseason goals to strengthen all of our weaknesses identified last year. We could get our WR with pick 9 if one of the top 3 is there. We could get our Center, Edge,  and DT taken care of. Check out the link. The video is less than 5 minutes, so it's well worth the time!
