  1. Agreed - that is Hester's role. We need a possession receiver. This is a role that Bennett could fill. The most infuriating thing to me last yr was the fact that once we knew Booker and Lloyd were wasted roster space, Bennett should have been getting their reps. Now we go into next yr not knowing what he can do for us. The same can be said for Rideau. How much would we have lost if we had sat Booker and Lloyd and played them????? Peace
  2. To clarify, I meant that the only opinion that really matters is that of Angelo and his staff. Peace
  3. First, I am not acting like anything. I am simply stating we do have free agents to consider. In the end, I see them extending Manning, Idonje, and Orton. Sure I believe some of the FAs that are being signed could help the team. But my opinion doesn't matter here. FA is fluid. Like I stated earlier, the market changed. 15 players were tagged and several others were signed before the market opened. Maybe Angelo was going to spend big money on one of those players. We will never know for sure. Peace
  4. Cutler is an all pro QB going into his 4th yr. He is not going anywhere. Peace
  5. Yeah, I meant Daniel Manning - thanks. I think Idonije stays and Ogun is gone. Idonije has shown he has tons of value on ST and as a fill in all over the line. Peace
  6. Moose was cut before FA and we signed him right away. He did not have to wait until FA since he had been waived. We signed Jones and Clark on the first day of FA. Those are the only 2, other than Omiyale, that I can remember. Peace
  7. Point 1 - I don't think that is the coaching staff. They are most likely giving input on what skill sets they need to fill and how certain players fit the skill sets. They are not involved in the money side. Point 2 - As I noted in another thread, there are several players who are FA after next yr that may be extended (Manning Jr, Idonje, Ogy, Orton, and Anderson). See the other thread for my thoughts. Point 3 - I agree that most of the big names FA are gone in the 1st week. This yr, however, I think they had a record # of FAs that were tagged (15 I think) and a bunch more that were signed. Maybe Angelo and staff decided the remaining pool of FA did not merit the money at the higher end. The Bears have had some success getting players later in FA most notably Reuben Brown and Roberto Garza. Point 4 - I think that Moose and Whosyourmamma's situation were very comparible. Maybe Angelo and his staff felt the same way. Maybe Angelo is PO'd at Turner and Drake for not using Bennett last yr and is forcing him on them. Most likely we will see a vet WR brought in here at some point (I am thinking Holt). Peace
  8. Actually we have several players who will be FA after next yr. JA has a pattern of trying to lock those players up the year before. Obviously there are some that we are still waiting to see improvement before giving them money, however, they do have until somewhere around the end of October to use this yrs cap space. Players who are FA after next yr: - Ogy - Manning Jr - Anderson - Orton - Idoneje You will most likely see 2 or 3 of these players extended with front loaded contracts if we do not use up most of the cap space by then. The question I would ask you ask you: why spend money on FA just to spend it? Maybe JA and staff took a look at the FA and felt that none of the top players were worth the cost (i.e. the benefit from obtaining the players would not be worth the cost). I know this based on their past behavior - the Bears will spend up to the cap. How they do that is the question. Peace
  9. Agreed and this won't happen until Virginia passes. Peace
  10. The Omiyale move was proactive from the point they went after right away in FA. Of course it was reactive from a sense they were filling a need. Agree to disagree on Moose. Peace
  11. 1 - If you ever listened to Mully talk about the Bears, he discusses how Angelo manages (consensus building). You may be right that this is an indictment of a lack of skill in judging talent across the board. Or, possibly, Jason is right in that we do have the talent but that there has been coaching deficiencies (i.e. we are not developing our talent or putting them in a place to win). 2 - On Booker and Lloyd, I meant that they were the names that we had heard off and that they were our big signings for last yr. I was not comparing them to high end FA signings. 2 - Sorry, Moose was a complete failure for the money we paid him IMHO. Not only did he drop too many passes, he also threw 2 QBs under the bus. 3 - I didn't say he was vowing out of FA because of Moose, Booker, and Lloyd. I was saying he was not going after high priced FA (i.e. Whosyourmamma) and most likely following the pattern he had last yr (bargain basement FA). Again, we are 5 days into FA. Last yr by this time we had resigned Briggs and signed Booker. Booker did not come until we lost out on Berrian. If you eliminate internal signings, you could argue Angelo has done more than last yr. He was proactive on Omiyale and reactive on Booker. Peace
  12. We are less than a week into FA and, because we have signed 1 FA, Angelo is sabotaging Lovie???? Give me a break. Here's my thoughts. JA believes in concensus building - everyone discussing and then making a decision. They decided at the end of the yr that the defensive coaching staff was a major problem. What did they do? They made big, big changes to the defensive coaching staff. They also decided they are not going to throw huge gobs of money at FA based on past failures most specifically Moose. Look at what they did last yr other than extending current players. Booker and Lloyd were the 2 big name signings I can think of and they were both signed for peanuts. You may agree or disagree with the strategy they currently have implemented. However, it would be career suicide for Angelo to sabotage his head coach. If he did and it was found out, he would be done in the business. Peace
  13. No way we are going to get Culter or Warner - period. Peace
  14. Given the track record, I really don't want them to draft a WR high since the staff will not play him anyway (case in point - Bennett). I would be willing to trade a 5th round pick for Holt at this point. Engram is a bit too long in the tooth for my liking (I would have loved having him back 3 to 4 yrs ago). Peace
  15. Exactly. If he was 100% last yr and had been used as he was, I'm sure there is no way he would want to come back here. Peace
  16. He would never play unless Romo gets hurt. No idea why he would want to go there. Peace
  17. Moore got 10 million guarenteed. Omayale got only 5. 20 million guarenteed for Jason Brown - wow. Peace
  18. According to Mully, 4 other teams were bidding for him so he has some perceived value. Would love us to sign another o-lineman and a vet receiver then we can go with best available player in the 1st round. Peace
  19. The Skins under Snyder are a joke. Peace
  20. Mully mentioned that 4 other teams were in the bidding for him. He said they signed him to an estimated 4 yr, 10 million dollar deal. Peace
  21. When you consider some of the complete and utter bust out first rounders who were also jagbags, Rex was a class act. I am speaking of: - Cade McNown - David Terrell - Cedric Benson Rex was a good guy who simply didn't work out. I wish him the best of luck. Peace
  22. I am really hoping he can improve on last yr. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...0,5117856.story Peace
  23. Thoughts? http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/be...-bear24.article Peace
  24. Not interested. Harrison has clearly lost a step. He will be 37 by the time the season starts. His best days are way, way behind him. I would rather get someone like Bryant Johnson and give Bennett and Riddeau more reps. Peace
  25. If we sign St. Clair and another starting level o-lineman then we can go for BPA in the 1st round. Peace
