The Chicago Bears are on the clock! OFFSEASON OPEN THREAD!
ASHKUM BEAR replied to adam's topic in Bearstalk
Jamar Gibbs RB left with a hamstring, but that should be fine by the time we face Detroit. -
Wheeler showed against the Bills that he is in it. I hate to see him go but the Bears have Swift, Herbert, and Johnson. He needs to find an injury before cut downs

I am glad I checked this page because I figured it was an evening game. Glad for dvr, starting the game from the beginning lol. -
I feel Poles would want to see his first project player through. Robinson was a WR, converted to DE which is not a norm you ever see. If any coach can get him to produce, it is Washington.

That is what the Score mentioned tonight. The blocking will be similar and will help him choose and punch through the line. -

Velus Jones to practice at RB this week. Looks like a desperate sign to find a place he can contribute other than KR. Or maybe they are short handed this week due to undisclosed injury? -

Wannstedt on the score said he heard 30-35 min in the next two games is the plan. We will see next Saturday -
This is a passing league and Poles is showing the league how it's done. Best DB group and now the best WR group. To have that, you need bodies. Just because they have DJ and Odunze, doesn't mean they can't keep Allen. Don't be surprised Allen is signed mid- season for 3 years 55 mil, 40 guaranteed. They have the cap now with only Jenkins worthy of extending.

The Bears were racking them up in TC, which was the reason Flus decided not to give JF and key players the preseason action. He said in a video that early injuries made them change their plans.
-
I was not a fan of Flus doing this last season and it showed early on that the team was not up to speed, especially QB1. I appreciate his respect for his players health though and maybe that is why they didn't quit on him.

DJ Moore gets 4-yr extension - $110M, $86M Guaranteed

This guy signed on when we had JF as QB1, now he gets a phenom that can elevate him to who knows where. Smart guy to be locked in with Caleb and Odunze. -
Did you catch the Waldron comment about Davis on the Score? He was asked about Davis missing time and if he is in jeopardy of being demoted. Waldron said Davis is the starter unless injury takes him out. His missing time must be alright with management
-
As of today, he doesn't even know if they will let him play. He wants to but says it's not his call. Just listening to him interview today, man this kid is something special. He is ages ahead of anything we have seen with understanding the position and reading defenses and how to place the ball.

Rookie Punter Tory Taylor does not count against the 90 man roster since he can be designated with an international exemption. I am sure Poles had that in mind also when making the pick. He sure does cover all his bases and is seems to be steps ahead of the rest of the league. -
I believe he had a freak RAS score, it was a matter of working on his post snap movement. At Florida, he was a man eater tying up 2 players. Here he is an attacker beating one man gaps.
-
Then today, Caleb finds Velus Jones for a td. It would be great if Caleb can elevate these two who have crazy speed and redeem Poles who saw something in them.

Justin Fields is QB1 for the Steelers opening day at training camp today. Russell Wilson woke up with a calf issue. He made a nice deep pass that will surely keep fans excited. It would be great to see him blossom and improve that draft pick for the Bears. -
Glad Williams is connecting with Scott early and developing that rapport, because they will have splash plays and then Scott will be what he is. But those splash plays will be game changers putting points up and can help the Bears achieve that spot we know is reachable.

Poles was ahead of the curve building the Bears DB room.

The Chicago Bears rookies, report to training camp next week, July 16. Veterans follow on July 19. This is were the pen and paper dreams unfold into reality and the real excitement begins. There is still some offseason business that needs to be finished by next week, like signing Caleb and Rome, so expect that to be the buzzer to welcome the fans of the start. There will be battles for positions won and lost. A player or two will emerge unexpectedly and some new names mixed in as they get looks at the roster. What will you be watching for as this new era begins?

This could be the Randoloh DT we signed UDFA. He was product in a 4-3 then the Illini switched to a 3-4 and his production fell. If he becomes a rotational player, that is a huge find for this scouting department. -

Attached is a little write up on the Bears udfa addition DT Randolph. Looks like he could be a hidden gem because of a scheme change for the Illini last season. https://www.sportsmockery.com/chicago-bears/chicago-bears-reportedly-went-to-extreme-lengths-to-nab-undrafted-rookie/ -
Higgens will for sure be gone next year. If Caleb grows into what we hope, I believe the Bears resources will start going to the trenches, which I assume will be strong on the draft side which helps keep the cap down. I would take a team friendly extension with Keenan over Higgens since he seems like a great fit for this year and next while Odunze grows into a force. Scott/Jones need to take a leap in production and eventually win the #3 spot since I don't see the Bears investing in WR draft wise early for a few years.

The new kick off rule allows teams use two deep. Poles mentioned in an interview, that once it was announced, he put together a "special" team just to learn what they will need to be ready and excel at it. I am guessing they will have a handful of players to put in those duties.

Falcons & Eagles may lose draft picks due to tampering
ASHKUM BEAR replied to DABEARSDABOMB's topic in Bearstalk
Looks like this cost the Falcons a 5th round pick next year. Eagles have been cleared.
