Bears projected to have four comp picks next year, so some anticipated draft capital to work with.
-
For speed WR, I really like Joe Reed from Virginia. Maybe Trishton Jackson for Syracuse or Quez Watkins from So. Miss would fit too. Some like Mooney from Tulane as well. Is Shane Lemiuex still on the board? Replace an Oregon G with an Oregon G?
-
My concern is that I don’t really see any impressive catch and runs from him. It’s mostly catch and get tackled, maybe knock some guys over. I’m not sure what he can do in the open field. Watching his highlights, he reminds me of Zach Miller.
-
I guess, but I can’t really give Pace credit for readdressing a need because he spent $16 million not adequately addressing it.
-
We’re talking about five picks in the last three rounds of the draft. Statistically speaking, you’re probably as likely to find a contributor in UDFA than with those picks, so just take the guy highest on your board. Probably the only positions that wouldn’t make sense to me are TE and CB - not only did we just draft both but we have plenty of depth bodies at both positions.
-
I think there’s going to be a G we all thought would’ve gone when we pick in the fifth. Maybe Logan Stenburg?
-
I really like Johnson. I’m pretty meh on Kmet. I guess I just need to accept that Pace is prone to over-addressing needs. Need a QB? Sign Glennon AND draft Trubisky. Weak at WR? Sign Robinson and Gabriel AND draft Miller. Kicker not cutting it? Bring in ten kickers to compete. This year it was historically bad TE production? Sign Graham and Harris AND draft Kmet. I guess it’s just what he does. The good news is, if the O-line fails spectacularly this year, your going to be looking at a lot of new guys next year.
-
Autocorrect changes Kmet to Kmart. Not a fan of the pick.
-
It could be both 2nds for a higher 2nd and a high 3rd. Just please don’t trade up for Kmet.
-
Lots of good names on the board, but I'm worried about Kmet at #43 and then a trade down from #50. Maybe someone else will take Kmet . . .
-
Thought that seemed astronomical. I looked it up and I assume you are referring to this (https://packerswire.usatoday.com/2020/02/24/daniel-jeremiah-27-receivers-with-grades-in-top-3-rounds-in-2020-nfl-draft/), which says 27 WRs with first round grades in the first THREE rounds. That still seems crazy high. And I'll stand by my comment - the only WRs I would be really happy with in the second are Pittman or Higgins.
-
This great WR draft is quickly turning into an OK WR draft. I’d take Higgins or Pittman, but I don’t really like Mims, Shenault, or Hamler in the 2nd. Lots of nice OL and DB help on the board.

Raiders to the rescue!

Isn’t someone going to do something stupid? Please? This is borderline boring so far. It’s like without all the pro days and private workouts, no one had a chance to irrationally fall in love with players.

Looking at the chart, I can definitely see Pace loving done still on his board when the first round is over and offering 43 and 50 to Cincy for 33, 65, and 147.

I can't speak for anyone else's thought process, but my thinking is: 1) Yes, Massie and Leno were bad last year, but so was literally every other Bears offensive lineman. 2) At least with Massie and Leno, you have a history of several years of solid play before last year (I think Leno was a Pro Bowl alternate the previous year). 3) Given a track record of pretty solid play, the overall downturn of the offensive line, and the money invested in those guys, they seem like candidates to regain prior form under a new offensive line coach. 4) I think it's unlikely that absent injury or complete abject failure a rookie 2nd round OT starts for this team over Leno or Massie next year. I would not describe myself as against draft a rookie OL in the second, and it might even make sense to get someone maybe you could put at OG first if you want to give that player some seasoning while giving Leno and Massie a chance to re-prove themselves. But looking at the draft options likely to be there in the 2nd round, who can step in and play LT given the fact that you're ;likely going to have an abbreviated offseason? There are some really young guys (Austin Jackson, Josh Jones, Isaiah Wilson) who are probably going to need some technique work before throwing them out there. Maybe Lucas Niang or Robert Hunt fit, but they figure to be RTs only. Are Saahdiq Charles or Prince Tega Wanogho a reach there? Those are the only potential LTs coming from a bigger program that I might trust at that spot to potentially start, unless I'm missing someone.

Obviously this will be easier after Thursday night, but curious to hear what people are thinking/hearing/guessing. Bears figure to make at least one 2nd round pick Friday night, maybe two, maybe one 2nd and a 3rd, who knows? If you were betting, who are the five players you think the Bears are most likely to walk away with Friday night (not who do you want them to draft, but who do you think they will draft)? Mine: Jeremy Chinn, S, SIU Antoine Winfield Jr., S, MInnesota Cole Kmet, TE, Notre Dame (unfortunately) Robert Hunt, OL, Louisiana Michael Pittman, WR, USC

I know we have a lot of bodies at CB, but I personally have more confidence in Deon Bush as starting SS than I do any of the current CBs being #2 CB. Plus, as people have noted, there are quality SSs out there in FA we could add after the draft, whereas I don't feel like there are any guys we could add that could step into the #2 CB spot. Moreover, you are more likely to find a decent SS who could push for a starting spot late in the draft than a guy who can immediately slot in at #2 CB.

I doubt anything would come of it, but I see the Colts may be shopping Malik Hooker because he can’t seem to stay healthy and they don’t have much TE depth behind Jack Doyle. It would be worth a call to see if a Shaheen for Hooker deal would work. If Hooker wins the job, great, if he can’t stay healthy we still have Bush.
-
I’ll say WR and DB. I respect the people who want to upgrade at OT, and I don’t disagree, but I think you are out of your mind if you think a rookie OT is starting for the Bears day one next year. Setting aside the money invested in the present OTs (https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.windycitygridiron.com/platform/amp/2020/2/13/21128583/chicago-bears-2020-roster-turnover-nfl-draft-offensive-tackle-charles-leno-bobby-massie-matt-peart), you’re going to have some kind of abbreviated offseason and the Bears will likely want as much cohesion as possible going into the year. Moreover, a lot of the guys you could get in the second round are touted as guys with great athletic potential but raw fundamentals who will need time before stepping into the starting lineup. Maybe Niang if you put him at RT, but my impression is that guys like Jones, Jackson, and Wilson all need quite a bit of work.
-
I'd rather do it for 50. Grab a guy you love that's still on the board at 43 and then trade down.
-
A comparable late round guy I’m really loving recently is Antoine Brooks from Maryland. Started at linebacker and moved to safety, but maintained the same mentality and has a whopping 27 TFL in his career, which is unheard of for a safety. I’ve never seen a DB make so many plays at or behind the line of scrimmage.

Sounds like it will be a post-June 1 cut, saving the Bears around $2.8 million this year.

He was reportedly not good even before going on IR. Could be another candidate to move to guard, as I believe lateral movement was a major issue.
