  1. I keep seeing Shemar Stewart, the edge from Texas A&M mocked to the Bears and while his size seems to fit the Dennis Allen mold, between his 4.5 TOTAL sacks over three years and this note on his run defense, I am fully out on him.
  2. I don’t love taking a guy at OT who has already had a pretty major knee injury. Sprains and stuff are on thing, a torn patellar tendon is another.
  3. I think there is an aspect of this where the mock draft pundits convinced themselves so fully that the Bears would be in desperate need of an O-line upgrade come draft time and just haven’t reconsidered based on their offseason additions. That’s not to say they don’t still have a moderate, more depth/future based need there, but I think if they actually thought about it more or reconsidered their initial thoughts, they would be less inclined to just pencil in O-line help.
  4. Yeah. I don’t know how I feel about all that resource allocation to LB after signing Edwards and Edmunds last year and now committing a top ten pick to what is nominally an off ball LB, but it’s the easiest way for me to justify taking any of the edge players early if I think he can also offer early down value and move around and even be a nickel defender on TEs plus be a threat to rush. I don’t think you can take a small edge top ten and expect him to play every down in the Allen defense, and as I’ve said I’m underwhelmed by the production of the bigger edges being projected in the early first round. I’ll mention that I’ve heard Jihaad Campbell as a first round guy who offers a similar skill set to Walker so I’m interested to look more at him.
  5. The more I think about it, the pick that would make the most sense to me conceptually is Jalen Walker from Georgia. With Sanborn gone, there isn’t a clear starter with Edmunds and Edwards, and Walker could be a LB in early downs and then rush from the edge on passing downs, plus could be a real asset as a pass rusher from the LB spot whenever Allen wants to deploy him.
  6. Jordan Burch and Ashton Gillotte are also options in that range. I like what I’ve seen from Burch.
  7. Useful note on the DEs that the Saints drafted/acquired when Dennis Allen was there. 6’4” 260 lbs. seems like the typical minimum size. On one hand, assuming Allen had some input on the choices, it seems to suggest against the drafting of the smaller/lighter edge players like Mike Green, Jalon Walker, and Donovan Ezeiruaku. On the other hand besides Young and (eventually) Hendrickson, most of these guys didn’t work out, so maybe a change in philosophy is in order.
  8. Did the Seahawks trade down and a couple others and ended up with this, which I was pretty happy with. Scourton seems like Ty best fit of the first round DEs with what Allen seems to prefer. 9. I don’t think you have nearly enough clarity on Kiran or the OT class to be comfortable trading Jones.
  10. I went with Jeanty, reluctantly. - I can’t take Membou when if not sure he can play LT, since he didn’t even do it in college. - I have four CBs I feel OK about (Johnson, Stevenson, Gordon, Smith) and first round CBs rarely make early impacts. -I’m warming to the idea of a 1st round WR actually given our depth chart, but I’m not sure McMillan makes sense (I’m leaning more toward a trade down to Burden). - I like Tyler Warren fine but we have Kmet and I want to see what he can do if given opportunities.
  11. I do kinda wonder what Ben Johnson thinks of Swift, since the Lions traded him away when Ben Johnson was there. I guess we’ll find out.
  12. I was also thinking, with all the talk of upgrading the OL, are we overrating the need for a high pick on a RB? I can certainly see the Bears drafting one at some point, but with an upgraded O-line, and particularly the addition of really good run blockers, I’d like to see what Swift and Roschon can do before spending too high a pick on a RB.
  13. Wondering if they had offers out to him and maybe Lockett, Allen, and/or Kupp and it looked like they were all looking elsewhere or wanting more money than they wanted to spend. He makes sense to me as a WR3/WR4 but still definitely need competition there.
  14. You want another Fridge, may I introduce JJ Pegues. I’m mildly obsessed with him because he looks like a good d-lineman and I can’t wait to see what Johnson would dial up for him on offense.
  15. I appreciate the comments on what the options are likely to be or what position we should be taking there (I generally agree!), but I’m more looking to see someone make a real case for the guy you think we should take and why. Because as much as we can say “take a LT” or “get a 3T” or “need an edge”, as reflected in my original post, have a real hard time making a good case for a particular OT, 3T, or Edge that is likely to be available that is a good fit for the Bears at #10.
  16. So I keep looking at everything I can regarding draft options at #10 and I’m having a hard time. Let me know where I’m wrong: -At Edge, you have guys with horrible sack production like Mykal Williams (who just ran a 4.8 40 at his pro day - no thanks) and Shemar Sanders (4.5 sacks total in 3 years), then guys with decent production who seem too light for 4-3 end like Mike Green and Jalon Walker (who’s probably a LB anyway). DT - Mason Graham maybe if he’s there but he probably won’t be and I don’t think Grant/Harmon/Nolen are worth the pick at #10. RB - Jeanty is maybe a consideration but I just have a hard time seeing it when the Bears have two 2nd round picks and this is a deep RB draft. OT - Poles drafted Kiran as his LT of the future last year, and there’s a lot of disagreement on if the top OTs (Campbell, Banks, Membou) are even fits at OT, let alone LT. Poles isn’t taking another potential RT at #10 and after the Thuney and Jackson moves probably isn’t taking a guard there either. I don’t buy Tyler Warren as a consideration - just actually use the guy you have. WR3 is a big need but I can’t see going WR back to back with top 10 picks (plus I assume they will still address WR in FA). I can almost make a case for CB depending on how the new regime feels about Terrell Smith and Tyrique Stevenson, but can’t quite get there. Trade down makes the most sense but that’s easier said than done. So what’s the move? Make your case. Cause I’m struggling.
  17. Need a WR pretty badly IMO. Scott has done nothing and he’s your #3 and there’s even worse options behind him.
  18. Kiran is the LT they are hoping to develop.
  19. I really want Nick Westbrook-Ihnine.
  20. I have no idea if he’s still good, but even if he can’t pass rush like he he used to, he can still be a good run defender and the Bears were really bad stopping the run once Billings went down. I do really like that Poles has added guys on both lines (Thuney and Jarrett) who are not only good players but leaders and respected vets. There hasn’t been much good veteran leadership on the lines in a while.
  21. I think you put him at edge and then on pass rush downs move him inside with a draft pick on the outside, kind of how they used Demarcus Walker.
  22. $20 million / year for Dan Moore (to the Titans) is crazy.
  23. Yep. Just need to come out of the draft with some kind of “Swiss army knife” type olineman like Zabel, Mbow, Ersey, Jackson, Gray to give you some depth and future and we’re in business.
  24. Also apparently retaining Amen Ogbongbemiga, another ST contributor.
  25. 2/$6 million for Josh Blackwell as key ST contributor and CB depth Smythe is your Gerald Everett replacement with better blocking. He was with Miami when Ben Johnson was there, so looks like another one of “his guys”.
