Fuller Injury
Good to hear. It didn't seem bad when it happened.

Preseason Game #2 Open Thread
Also, glad to see a little something from Shaugn Draughn last night. Ford looks like he would be the odd man out, except we may need him as a return man given the struggles of Weems and injury to Chris Williams.

Kelvin Hayden should also be gone. Bad coverage and bad tackling. McMannis has outplayed him and I'd keep Al a Louis Jean over him - he's not aggressive enough yet but good cover guy from what I've seen.

Preseason Game #1 Open Thread
Watched the rebroadcast on NFL Network today and here's what I saw: - Everyone seems to think Clausen is in the driver's seat for #2 QB, but I didn't this he was much (if at all) better than Palmer. Both had good and bad throws and it'll probably come down to the wire as to who wins the job. - Though his stats don't show it, I thought Carey ran well without a lot of holes and didn't really see anything from Draughn. Also, I know Lynch is the sentimental favorite for practice squad RB, but I thought Sinorice Perry ran hard. - I can't see anyone but Josh Morgan being the slot WR until Wilson comes back. although I think Chris Williams can be a very useful weapon (so long as he can stay healthy). - Good showing from Michael Ola, who started at RT and I think played some LT too. Considering he's slotted as the back-up RG on the depth chart, that versatility will probably earn him a spot. I also thought Charles Leno, who got a lot of work with Britton out, did a good job when he was in there. - Ego Ferguson will help this team more than Sutton right away. Sutton seemed to get pushed around too much (though he probably would have had a sack near the end of the first half if he didn't run into Ego on a stunt). Ego really held his ground well in the running game. - Cornelius Washington is useless. The stats will show a TFL and a hurry on the last play of the game, but he can't locate the ball and can't disengage from blocker. He was worth a pick where he was drafted, but Trevor Scott, Austen Lane, and even David Bass are far superior players. - Based on the Eagles game, I'd rather start Khaseem Greene than Bostic or McClellin. Both seemed to get lost in pass coverage and overpursue in the run game. Khaseem wasn't always in the right place, but he made sure tackles given the opportunity. - Fuller looked solid starting for Jennings and had a nice break-up match up with Jordan Matthews. And while I don't see any way he makes the roster barring injury, Al Louis-Jean is a keeper on the practice squad at least. Hurst had more tackles, but only because his guy was catching balls and he was making the tackle. Louis-Jean was really on his man and had that nice interception. - I couldn't tall anything from the safeties since they aren't on the screen most of the time, although I was comforted to see that none of them made any Conte-like whiffs. So there's that.

Bears sign Jimmy Clausen..
It doesn't hurt to have someone in your back-up QB competition who has started an NFL game before.

OTAs Day One Notes
Good thing Morgan's looking good, cause it sounds like Hixon tore his ACL (third time) and is done for the year if not his career.

Breakout player for 2014
Of the new additions, I'll say Ryan Mundy. Anyone's going to look good after our safety play last year, but I think he really helps solidify the back end. Of the rookies, I'll go with Will Sutton. There will be a lot of attention paid to the ends, and Sutton's penetrating ability is something no one else on the roster really adds. I can see him in the rotation early and making a lot of big plays as the season goes on.

Christian Jones
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/nfl-dra...agents-to-watch Chicago Bears -- LB Christian Jones, Florida State: Jones went undrafted due to some durability concerns and questions about where his best position will be at the next level, but if he stays healthy he might be able to carve out a niche on special teams coverage. Jones has the versatile ability to help in sub-package situations at several front-seven spots.

Christian Jones
I heard Emery somewhere say that he thought they would carry 10 DL (they ranged from 9-10 last year). That may squeeze out a LB. I think Briggs, Williams, Bostic, and Greene are safe. McClellin will probably stick unless he looks awful at LB and/or another team offers a draft pick for him. I would think they carry six LBs, so the last spot to me is probably Jones v. Senn. If Jones can show up on ST and/or McClellin struggles, they may need a better potential LB option. While I value what Senn could bring in special teams, we saw with Costanzo what happens when you put a ST ace at LB.

New rookie Jersey #s are out
Is there going to be a press conference introducing the rest of the draft? I know they had one for Fuller, but I thought they would have one for the others, but I haven't seen anything on it.

Ego Ferguson, DT
I heard a comparison of Ferguson to Tank Williams by someone. Tank that far more impressive college numbers, but physically they seem pretty similar.

David Fales, QB
Watched some highlights of Fales and he tends to pat the ball in the pocket. He's gonna need to break that habit.

What do we see being last pick? Probably LB or a WR with return ability?

2014 NFL Draft Open Thread
His 23 reps more than 6 tight ends, 19 running backs, 21 defensive linemen, and all 37 WRs at the combine.
- WTF moment

David Fales, QB
Palmer supposedly coached him prior to the Senior Bowl , so they already have a good relationship. He must have had good things to say.

Any speed burners left?
Also, he's not a burner, but has return experience: Jeremy Gallon. I know he's small, but I loved the way he played in college, which is hard for a Hawkeye fan to admit about a Wolverine.

Christian Jones would be nice, if he lasts. Did Skov ever get picked?

Any speed burners left?
Herron's still available. Also, while he's not a burner, T.J. Jones from Notre Dame has return experience and he'd fit the Bears NFL legacy theme - his uncle is Phillip Daniels and his godfather is Rocket Ishmail!
-
Any speed burners left?
Some names: Tevin Reese, Jared Abbrederis, Isaiah Burse. Also, I don't love him as a CB, but how about Chris Davis?

So...
Mettenberger seems the better fit and I'd certainly take him.

2014 NFL Draft Open Thread
Three of Bears' five picks have relatives who played in the NFL: Fuller's brother Corey plays for the Lions, Sutton' father played in the 80s, now Vereen.
