From your mouth to God's ears.

If I was going to trade Tommie, I would also trade Urlacher. There is no sense in giving Urlacher tons of money when we can't compete. If we trade Tommie, we are basically saying that it's time to rebulid. If we are going to rebuild, don't be half assed about it...REBUILD! Trade both Urlacher and Tommie, get an entire team of draft picks because you know we can get more than a first rounder for each and then parlay those into 2nd and 3rd rd picks galore. THAT, is how you rebuild. It's also how you go from being 7-9 to 5-11 but hey, if ya can't win it all, why play?

The only one I disagree with is Anderson and that's because of the disparity between his first yr and last year. Hester, has been the ONLY member of this football team that has played with consistency these past 2 years. I give him the money because he's earned it. I think the Brown situation further illustrates part of your point in that the Bears resigned him early and cheaper and yes, he did come back intimating that he wanted to be traded. He lost his starting job but got it back and the Bears sweetened his pot a bit. That's OK. It gave them an opportunity to spread the money out. Better that than throwing a ton of money at a guy and then watch his production sink. With Hester, we gotta do something. Even if he does nothing more tha STs, he's worth whatever we pay him. I think he adds incredible value just being on the field. My only problem with Hester is that we don't have anyone on this coaching staff who knows how to develop talent. Drake is a freakin joke and should have been launched years ago. He must have pics of Lovie in teddy or something because he flat out sucks. Hester could be developed into one of the most prolific players in this league but he won't because our coaching staff sucks. But, either way, I'd give him the money before any of the other clowns, including Tommie Harris. Mainly because I think he wants to be here and that he is a team player and it's not just about the money for him.

Hey Chuckles, put the crackpipe down. Berrian is a one trick pony. 42M????? Hell, that's sheer stupidity. Shitty route rout runner, too lazy to finish his routes, non existent downfield blocker and way too many drops to be considered a #1. He only looked good here because he was playing opposite Moose.

The Dallas game was the 3rd of the season. So you mean for the first 2.5 games you could tell it wasn't an issue?
-
My point is that I think this year is going to be completely different than the last couple in that people are seeing the kind of money that these QBs who have zero experience are getting and then they are looking around the league at some of the success stories as of late. Look at Romo in Dallas and Anderson in Cleveland. Why should a team spend 60M with the #1-4 pick when they can wait till the 20th pick and spend 18-22M? That's what I mean by day of reckoning. Teams realize that they don't need to draft an unproven QB with the high number 1 pick anymore. There have been alot of #1 busts. I'm not trying to say nobody will ever draft a QB number 1 again but it would appear that teams are figuring out, everyone but the Bears of course, that they can invest their money in a great o line and even a mediocre QB looks better.
-
Hey, I would just like to see what this offense looks like with a serviceable o line. I'm fine with giving all 3 of our QBs if necessary another year with a decent line so we can actually see what they can do. It's not just Rex. Let em all compete and whoever else we decide to bring in as well.
-
Yeah, I think it would be out of character for JA to move up. I'm more inclined to believe with all the needs we have and especially based on what we do with the o line in FA, he would move down to collect more picks. Personally, I think the QBs are gonna suffer this year. None of them are gonna get the kind of blockbuster deals that have been done the last few years. Believe me, this could be the day of reckoning for agents who are looking for that bigtime QB deal. I don't see anyone in this class worth the money it would cost. Hell, I'm still laughing about the deal Oakland gave Russell last year. What a complete joke. He is Daunte Culpepper Redux.
-
I can only surmise that the relationship with Rex and the Bears is just one of those sick, twisted tales of love, hate, love, hate, love and hate again. The logic does seem that he stands a better chance to start here simply because he knows he has Turner, Lovie and Angelo in his corner rooting for him so why would he want to go somewhere that NONE of those dynamics exist? Moreover, having to risk being relegated to a third spot would probably be too much for him to handle. We all know how the Bears feel about him so THAT is why he should re-sign with us. Now, as far as why we would want him back? Well, even if he loses his starting job, he's a more than adequate back up. He knows the offense and the players. Also, that sick logic every Bear coach, GM, fan has that says, hey, this will be the year he gets it. He's gonna be the guy we always hoped he'd be. That's all I got.......

How you can possibly sit there, after watching Grossman shit down his leg for the last 2 years and tell anyone they are crazy for wanting to see what Orton can do is beyond understanding. You have NO freakin IDEA whether or not Orton isn't a #1 QB. He's the only QB thios team has that has done what was asked of him. If you don't think those games he put together against GB and NO were outstanding performances in horrible condidtions, then your just crazy as hell. As to your statement that if he was so good he would have been a starter by now, I can only say that's not entirely true. Unfortunately, this coaching staff evaluates talent at about the same level you do.
-
I think the Bears just want so much for Rex to be the guy, that they won't really look at his deficiencies. He is small, he doesn't read defenses well, he gets way too spooked in the pocket, he is prone to turn the ball over at the worst possible times, he doesn't seem to learn from any of his mistakes. He is not the kind of guy who can hang in there when things are going badly and bring calm to the huddle. Now, is Orton that guy? I don't know. Is Griese that guy? I don't believe so. I believe Griese will get you all jacked up moving the team downfield and then all of the sudden, just as we think we're getting ready to score,he will turn it over. I hope it comes to pass that we resign Rex, launch Griese, draft a QB in the 2nd or 3rd rd, let Rex and Kyle compete for the starting job and may the best man win. I like resigning Rex not because I think he will win the starting job, even if he does, I'll pull for him, but because he knows this offense better than any other back up we could get. I think Orton can surprise alot of people.

Hopefully, they will do something about the rookie salaries. Let them EARN the money.
-
I look at the rookie contracts as of late. Jemarcus Russell, 60M and 30 guaranteed? That's just obscene. These damn rookies haven't proven anything and look at what they make. This is what has to stop. If a rookie can command that kind of jack, what can a guy whose proven himself ask for? There needs to be a 2 year cap on rookie salaries with a cap on signing bonuses as well. It can be done based on where someone is picked in the draft. The amounts of money being paid to the Cedric Bensons of the NFL is sad. It's gotta stop somewhere and I don't care what anyone says. The league cannot continue to fund these compensation plans. It's impossible. Even the Big market teams will suffer.
-
I mean, he is a freakin DT. Where on earth will this end? Look at where is gotten to in the last 10 yrs. Bruce Smith made 2.2M 10 yrs ago. He was a premier player. Dwight Freeney got his deal last yr at 6 yrs 72M, 30 guaranteed. Even using simple math, thats 12M per yr. based on the same rate of growth, that implies that 10 yrs from now, that a premier guy like Smith or Freeney is going to make what? 72M a year unless something is done. These salaries have gotten completely out of hand. Hell, Deion Sanders was the highest paid NFL player 10 yrs ago and he was paid 4.9M a Yr and people were going gaga over that. How can the small market teams survive, let alone compete? I don't know how any NFL team could exist if these salaries keep escalting at the rate they have. Anyone think we're going to have a real issue come the next negotiations with the NFLPA?
-
Agreed. The last thing I want is to put up the kind of guarantee he is looking for if I have issues with his health. Which makes me think of a new topic altogether.
-
On the other side of the coin, if you don't franchise him, you get absolutely nothing for him, there isn't even a chance to negotiate a trade. Again, it's the prudent thing to do.
-
I'm not sure it's a "youth movement". I think it's more a move to get better. The guys we launched, stunk last year. I too like the message, produce or you're gone. We may not be done yet.
-
Tagging Berrian does 2 things. First, it buys us time to negotiate with him. There is no law that says if we find a better option, we can't trade him. So aside from the money, whats the harm in tagging him? Yeah, it's alot for 1 yr but so is a 15M SB and salary even if it's prorated over 7 yrs. The other thing we do is protect ourselves if somebody does give him a deal. At least we get the draft picks.
-
Pompei has us picking him with the 14th pick this year.
-
I really don't want McNabb. First, it will cost us too much to get him. If it were a matter of just signing him, that is one thing but giving up high draft picks is NOT the right thing for this team to be doing right now. We need to become younger, not older. I don't think McNabb can stay healthy enough to do us any good anyway.
-
One other thing, Hester will continue to put asses in seast and help sell merchandise. He might just become the next face of the Bears. I do see some of the logic in trading Hester but you are assuming that we will never have an offense capable of making anyone pay for giving us that great field position. While that might be right, we have to try and believe our offensive woes will end. I know, there is no tooth fairy is there?
-
Teams don't kick to Hester because they don't fear this offense. Hester will NEVER be a non factor because teams will kick out of bounds on kickoffs and try the same on punts. Either way, we start with excellent field position. If we ever get an offense that's capable of doing some damage to teams that kick away from Hester and give us great field position, that will stop.
-
Wow! That's kinda scary. Ya gotta wonder what Briggs is thinking about all of this.
-
OR, maybe the reason our QBs look so bad is the fact that they were throwing to the dropsy twins, Berrian and Moose.
-
I don't know if heresy would be the word I'd use but I just could NOT in all good conscience, root for the Packers...EVER...EVER....NEVER.
