Technically the title of the thread is "Things I THINK I Know" which is passive. And let's be honest, although you made some excellent points in you post, it's hard for any of us to really know much for sure. I know this, I'm excited to get this season underway so I can confirm some of the things I think I know.

How could Jesus let this happen?

LOL! Good to see you having a sense of humor about it. Frankly, even though I never agreed with you on Webb, I applauded your tenacity. It ain't easy having everyone come down on you about something and stick to your guns.

The Chicago Bears Sunday waived 14 players, including Devin Aromashodu and Tom Zbikowski. The roster now stands at 76 active players. Here are the players waived: Wide receiver Devin Aromashodu, running back Curtis Brinkley, defensive tackle Eric Foster, tackle A.J. Lindeman, center P.J. Lonergan, safety Derrick Martin, defensive end Kyle Moore, tight end Gabe Miller, tight end Leonard Pope, linebacker Patrick Trahan, punter Tress Way, linebacker Lawrence Wilson and safety Tom Zbikowski.

No pick on the first pass. Better start.

Ha! I have an ex-wife myself. Girlfriends are better.

Actually I'm looking forward to a night of football, starting with the Packers Vs. Seahawks at 7 PM and then switching to the beloved. Not sure the girlfriend is going to be as happy with that plan as I am. This weekend's game is said to be the most telling. We should see at least a minimal game plan and a half of football from our starters, possibly more. I want to see Jay distribute the ball. The offense be more diverse in general with Forte getting some good work. The D to continue to hustle to the ball, get turnovers. McFadden is a good back when healthy. Let's see what he does against the Bears D. And you?

That would be my hope. In which case, Briggs should take him out for a steak dinner one night to compensate for his lost earnings.

Understood. But my point is he's getting fined for a game that doesn't count and he's forced to participate in and then they hit him with a fine of like 20 times what he's paid to play in that game. It's ridiculous. And on a hit that, while violent, sure looked legal to me.
-
I heard this morning (on Channel 5 news) his game checks for the preseason are $1,500. This just keeps getting worse.

Couldn't agree with you more and the rest of the responses here. I posted in the thread about Bostic's hit that I was worried they'd fine him. It's not clear if the two helmets hit together to me but I think the rule is that since he led with his shoulder the hit was legal, regardless. I hope he appeals it and wins. This is bullshit.

And he provides a good comfort level for Jay. I don't see him getting cut over a concussion.

Carimi seemed to have that mean streak too. I can't explain it. Bad luck. I think Williams was a known injury risk IIRC so that was Jerry's fault. No question. We'll know a little more Friday and even more halfway through the season. I'm hopeful though, which is better than the "resigned to having a shitty line" feeling I usually have this time of year.

Couldn't agree with your first statement more! I guess we'll never know exactly where the failing was in terms of who to blame more, Lovie or Angelo. I get the feeling Angelo always had linemen on his big board and when the Bears pick came around he looked up and said, "Well, it looks like the best player available is a defensive tackle. Lovie, thoughts?" And Lovie always just nodded in agreement. I did think Tice got the most out of his line talent. He was good at one thing, working with linemen. He sucked as an OC. But the talent pool there was really shallow because the position was constantly ignored. And when Angelo did get around to drafting a guy for the line, he'd almost always be a bust, often due to injuries. So it was refreshing to see them take a different route this year in the draft. We may have had a little concern (as a group) about Long up front but I think everyone was, at a minimum, happy they addressed a glaring need. Now it looks like they may have found a gem. Let's hope, anyway.

I was just joking with you dude. I actually don't smoke pot and really never have. But I do agree with you that it isn't any worse than alcohol and in some ways booze is worse.

Best post of the month!
-
What options did Lovie have? Recall that we just drafted the guy replacing Webb.
-
Yep. Very possible.
-
You used the word open which changes things. All I ever said and continue to say was there was a competition because the evaluation process had to be taking place. No way two coaching staffs in a row give Webb a pass if he sucked. Not that I want to get back into all of this again, I'm just glad that it's clear that they were clearly evaluating the players on their merit, behind the scenes or otherwise, and they appear to have come to the same conclusion most of us have on Webb. I just wanted to wait until we had a few things to judge the new coaches on before I got all angst-ridden about something ONE writer wrote.

For what it's worth, I agree with you on the exclamation points. He overdid it. But damn dude, let it go...
-
The point is, Twiggy, there always was a competition. Just because you imagined something that made you really really upset, doesn't mean your perception was ever reality. I told you and Jason to calm down and that the evaluation was going on regardless of what was said publicly but you both stomped your feet and pouted like a couple of little kids. Since Jason embarrassed himself he's run off and hid. You don't have the same sense. As to your constant whining about your alleged use of the word "if". If you bother going back to that thread and reading it you'll find that you used the word "if" in that context only after your panties were ruffled up big time. Over and over again you defended Pompeii's observations and took his word as gospel. Webb's suck to not suck ratio was too high for a professional coach not to notice. As soon as they were convinced, which took them ONE PRESEASON GAME, they demoted him, replaced him with a rookie and cut his pay in half. How much more decisive could they have been? But no, you and Jason wanted it announced on the first day of camp that they had an open competition at right tackle. Why? Because it would make you feel better. Well, you know what you and Jason can do with your hurt feelings...

If Cutler can't hack this offense, this year is over already. And for me it'll mean we should've just stuck with Lovie for another season. I think Cutler can and will produce in the new offense and it'll be humming 4 games or so into the season. But until then, it'll be a bit bumpy. Our backup QB on this team is there for one reason only, to replace Cutler if he's injured. None of these journeymen is stepping in and taking us to the promise-land. Just my opinion.
