  1. If Bennett does that, Hester will only have 50ish catches but they'll all be deeper strikes. It's all good. Now we just have to see it happen on opening night.
  2. I agree and disagree here. Having a better QB may make everyone better. And thus, if Davis isn't getting the reps with him he won't have the opportunity to prove it. Comparing Davis's history with Rex and Kyle to other WR's playing with Jay isn't fair to him and may yield inaccurate results. And here I completely agree. Perhaps the coaches are seeing enough of Davis in practice to know what they need to know. But they're seeing what the young guys produce under fire. WR is a position you really need to learn how to develop, as a team. Like QB. And the Bears have historically been horrible at it. I don't recall a drafted QB other than McMahon that was worth a shit and I don't think they really "developed" him. He was what he was. T'zak and Harbaugh weren't too bad but we're still back in the Ditka era and I wouldn't say they grew much from when they were first drafted, particularly T'zak. At WR we've developed ONE that I can recall... Berrian. OK, maybe throw in Booker too. Other guys have had one career year at most and then turned to shit. The way to develop WR's is to have a good QB (and we stole one from Denver) and then work with the younger talent until they get it. Lots of times this can take 3 or 4 years, even on excellent teams. The idea being that you rotate out older guys and replace them with your younger studs as they get ready. Davis has likely already hit his ceiling. I'd take the devil I don't know in this particular case unless he gives me a reason not to. Or the competition from the younger guys simply isn't that strong.

    Favre Schism

Amen to that. But taking Favre and the Queens down at the same time is like having a French Silk pie covered in Rocky Road Ice Cream and chocolate sauce. It's almost too much "good stuff" as the commercial says. I guess the cherry on top of the sundae would be if Favre beats the Packers twice and gives us the division in doing so.
  4. Rex was a gunslinger in a dress. His problem was he lost his swagger. Cutler doesn't look like a guy who will let a few bad plays get to him. Not to mention, as you said, Cutler's skills are better.
  5. I agree with you that Pompei's logic is flawed. Comparing Manning's third season the Cutlers provides evidence that they're similar statistically as far as picks at this stage of their careers. That said, my own eyes tell me Jay is a bit careless with the ball and I think his attitude toward his abilities will make it tough for him to ever not be careless. In a way, this is Brett Favre's mentality too. He'll drive you crazy with the bonehead throw but then squeeze one in where nobody thought possible. Manning isn't that way. He's much more cerebral in his approach to the game. Any comparison to Brady is simply dumb. So with Cutler we'll always have a guy we know can win us a game but he'll also have frustrating plays/games as well. The term gunslinger gets thrown around a lot and I hate it, but Cutler is much more Favre than he is Manning/Brady.
  6. Sphincter muscles at TalkBears.com unpucker just a little.
  7. I hate how often we're agreeing these days. I think getting Cutler has softened your hard ass up a bit and you're actually human now. I couldn't agree more, experience can either be good or bad. Our experiences with Davis are BAD. I don't give a shit if the guy has 50 years of NFL experience. And in this case, I think it may work against him that two very inexperienced guys (rookies) are holding their own in camp. I see Jerry as more likely to have a vested interest in them and since Cutler prefers them, Lovie will fold like a tent. The special teams needs can't be overlooked and Davis may still have a great showing in one of the remaining games, thereby earning a spot... But he hasn't done so yet. And anyone who thinks he has, including Larry Mayer, is high.
  8. I think you and Larry are smoking from the same stash. I've seen nothing from him on the field that justifies this. And if they dis Cutler by cutting one of his "guys" to keep someone who didn't earn it on the field, he'll be pissed off. I'm all for keeping Davis if he makes the squad. But he's got a lot of proving to do after last season.
  9. I'd try something along these lines, I think the guy can play football. That said, Jerry seems to be able to find these type guys all the time. We lost Tank, no problem. So, maybe they just pay him this season's money and see what happens in terms of his rehab. Offer him a one year if it looks like he'll be healthy. Damn, it bums me out about this guy. First time I saw him at camp I thought he'd be a monster in there.

  11. But you and the rumors you choose to believe are? LOL!
  12. First off, the NRA would tell you that guns don't kill people. And more people are killed by automobiles than guns. Yadda yadda yadda. I've always been for strong restrictions on guns and believe if they were covered by a federal law making things somewhat universal, they'd be much more understood and things like this would happen much less often. But back to the NRA... If they're right, taking your car to a club could be a felony if some state decided to make it so. Plax deserved some punishment. What that should be, I'm not sure. But I do know that 2 years for harming himself by accident is just silly.
  13. What's weird is that I thought, up until all of this stuff happened, that Harrison was one of the good guys.
  14. Manditory minimums are part of the "screwed up" legal system. I understand the need for public safety and all but there's no way Plax should've gotten 2 years for shooting HIMSELF. I'm not defending him either, he's an idiot. But your post doesn't convince me or anyone else that the legal system in this country isn't screwed up. Hell, some jackass brought loaded weapons to an Obama speech the other day! In that state, it's legal. In NYC, the guy shoots himself and does two years... Some of these laws ought to be consistent, I think. And they ought to be enforced consistently too.
  15. That's in the article I posted. There's something going on there that I don't think the Bears need to be part of. Unless he comes cheaply.
  16. Yep... http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4359721
  17. I agree with you NFO. Also, on Marvin Harrison... http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4359721 His troubles aren't over either. I'd avoid him too.
  18. I don't know about that aspect. I do know, for sure, his work ethic was awesome. Bringing that alone to the team would be huge. But I think he's got unrealistic salary demands at this time so he won't sign with anyone until that changes.
  19. I like Marvin assuming: 1.) His legal troubles are behind him. There was a little matter of a shooting at his club in Philly. 2.) He could pass a physical and his health and speed aren't a concern for our staff. 3.) He'll play for a 1 or 2 year deal for reasonable money. His 60 catches for 600 yards and 5 TD's last year make him a solid #2 for us (as if we have a real #1) and his ability to mentor the younger guys, or at least display his fierce work ethic to, would be beneficial in the long run. My understanding is that Indy would've kept him had he accepted a reduced deal with them. So #3 above may be the biggest issue with signing him. I think he still thinks he's one of the best in football.
  20. Nobody ever claimed you were a defensive genius.
  21. Old info. Here's a recent article (2007) which talks about him reversing that trend in the 2000's. He used to be known as a terrible indoor QB in the 1990's. http://www.dallasnews.com/s/dws/nwsltr/spo....109a00f28.html
  22. I'm not saying it will but I think one thing I read could push it along that road... According to Chris Mortenson, this deal has been "done" for two months. How many players, fans and members of the media were deceived in the last 60 days? This has the potential of blowing up on them. I doubt it will. Favre will smile and say something "back woods" and they'll all start sucking his dick. God I hate this guy.
  23. I'm hoping for two things here: 1. Favre's arm isn't 100% after the surgery 2. His presence rips the team apart I think there's a good chance of either or both of these happening. If neither happens, the Vikings must be considered one of the top contenders in the NFC. It's going to be a very interesting season, regardless.
