And it looks like Trevathan probably out for rest of year with gross snap of the left arm....ugh.

Yeah I’m a bit of a masochist (but which of is Bears fans isn’t?). But I’ve been doing the Sunday Ticket for years and like it’s convenience to watch it anywhere. May have to consider what you suggest especially if the team continues on its path of mediocrity...for years to come. Ah Thailand. Years ago a co-worker tried to get me to go ‘fishing’ with him there. The wife declined my request.

Back from a self-imposed pout filled no-watch ban (have to since I pay big money for Sunday Ticket), I’m curious about this Stafford development. In his place is Jeff Driskell. Who the hell is that? He was drafted in the 6th round by SF in 2016 after playing QB for both Florida AND Louisiana Tech in college. After being drafted by SF he was eventually released and wandered to Cincinnati until earlier this year, where he found his way as the backup to Stafford. (His career reads like a ‘how-to’ of being a journeyman). As an interesting aside, he was also drafted by the Red Sox in 2013, but insisted on staying with football. So will this game be where he has a sudden ‘Gardner Minshew-like’ rise from obscurity and sets Soldier Field on fire with his play? God I hope not... On the defensive side you have Trey Flowers up front (who came over to help Patricia’s defensive scheme I’m sure). Kennard is one OLB we should be concerned about, Christian Jones is not. Darius Slay is still competent in the backfield so Trubiksy will need to be wary of him. (Who am I kidding, he needs to be wary of any player wearing white today - and not give them the ball). Bears 21-17. Montgomery 2 TDs and one Defensive TD.

I was mostly watching highlights so I didn’t see a lot of play outside of the QBs. But that Burrow...holy smokes...COOL is right. I saw one play where he stood in the pocket with it collapsing around him and some how was able to make a 7 (or so) yard dump. When he threw it all I saw was Bama red where he was standing only seconds before. That kid is goooooood.

One HELL of a game! Those two QBs (Tua and Burrow) are going to be something in the NFL. Look for Bama and LSU players dominating the draft in the next few years.

Illinois came back from being down 31-10 to Michigan State in the 3rd quarter and won 37-34 after scoring 27 points in the 4th. HC Lovie Smith was carried off the field by his players as they became eligible for their first bowl game since 2014. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaafb/lovie-smith-carried-by-illini-players-after-comeback-win/ar-BBWwuzr?li=BBnb7Kzy

So with the waiving of Davis, the elevation of Nall, the assignment of Long to IR, the moving of Coward in his place and the swapping of positions for Daniels and Whitehair the offense is going to suddenly take off and make an 8-0 run....right? The point is....why did it take a four game losing streak to the halfway point of the season to come up with these changes? Is it enough? My guess is 'no'.

Yes. IF this helps Trubisky play better and suddenly the offense improves, he'll be roasted for not making this decision sooner (as he should be). However if both Trubisky and the offense continue to struggle then he didn't make enough changes...Trubisky being the primary piece of the equation. And the last part of the clip you added where Nagy didn't want to talk about the strategy makes me think he was uncomfortable with the timing of the change.

So for the sake of conversation; I'm wondering with the conversion of many college level teams going to the Spread or RPO style offenses, its hampering the ability of the QB to process what is going on in front of them on the field? Isn't that the style of offense where before the snap of the ball the whole offense (to inlcude the linemen) all look to the sideline for the call on the field before executing it? I seem to recall early in the season (game 2 perhaps?) that Nagy deployed that technique with Trubisky and he did better. They were usually lining up fast, getting the signal and allowing Mitch to look over the field before executing the play. However something tells me that he (Trubisky) wasn't really looking for more than where the rush may have been coming from or where the potential target zones for his receivers would be. Normally in this situation the QB would be making his pre-read to determine whether he should be making an audible or reassigned route to a receiver. In this style of offense most of that skill goes away. Would make sense if all these QB's struggled; Mayfield and Allen being from Texas A&M, Darnold at USC (ran a variation of spread adapted from C-USA), Mariota with Kelly at Oregon (and Helfrich too...hmm) and when Goff was there I want to say Univ. of Calif. deployed some version of it. Again, the problem being these guys haven't had much experience with reading the field to figure out what play should be used, or at least audibled to in order to adjust.

Who knows, maybe he thought giving him a chance to convert a score would boost his self-confidence? Maybe Mitch audibled out of a run-design play? Why did Pete Carroll have Russel Wilson throw for the go ahead TD in the SB when he had Marshawn “Beastmode, himself a tackle breaking machine” Lynch in the backfield? Coaches do weird things at inopportune times. Don’t stop venting, even if you are repeating yourself. It’s cathartic and better than drinking into oblivion. ??

Agree nearly ?. I’ll admit I like Nagy and the ‘family’ mentality he brought to the team but that will only get you so far. Especially when you have a hard time fixing what you know is broke; IE: sending out Daniel in place of Trubiksy oat the risk of knowing you may hurt some feelings. (Or maybe you don’t do it because Pace says he doesn’t want to be embarrassed by HIS pick failing...whatever). But with regards to making changes now, one of them making Pagano HC makes it possible (however unlikely) to bring back Fangio if he’s fired from Denver next year. And maybe ... just maybe... he has an inside track in talking Luck into coming out of retitement.

Agree on all points. Heck, I’d even try running Patterson up the middle due to his sheer size. Last week when they were on the goaline my wife asked me what I thought they were going to do. I said they should run Mack up the middle; you know he’d make it in and it might have raised the morale on the defensive side of the ball. Or ended his season early.

Maybe it was the six near goal line tries and failures right before halftime against the Chargers last week. And just to recap that series of plays, here’s what happened (source Yahoo Sports): * Montgomery ran for no gain on first down. • Cordarrelle Patterson caught a 1-yard pass on second down. • Mitchell Trubisky threw an incomplete pass to Allen Robinson on third down. A flag was thrown for defensive pass interference, setting up the Bears with a fresh set of downs from the 2-yard line. • Trubisky threw an incomplete pass on first down. • Montgomery ran for 1 yard on second down. • Trubisky spiked the ball on third down. Four of those six attempts were by Trubisky. None of which were any more than a one yard gain.

The fact of the matter is, Trubisky needs some sort of reset. I’m fairly certain he’ll never be any better than a mediocre QB and probably will be relegated to career backup status sometime in the next year or two. If he was able to set the reset to the Alex Smith level then maybe he’d be a good crossover QB until the Bears can find an actual Franchise level QB. Look no further than this years stats where Daniel (himself a career back up) has managed 7.1 ypg (to Trubiskys 5.6) with a 73.3 completion % (63 for Trubisky) 213 ypg (173.9 Trub) and carries a 95 rating to Trubisky’s 80. Remember when Trubisky was in college it took him almost three years to supplant Marquise Williams as QB. And that was only because Williams graduated. Where is Williams these days? I’ll agree some of the other pieces of the team are being affected by the play of some on offense and some of it can be due to Nagys inability to make the right calls at the right time. But when a player gets in there who can decipher what the defense is presenting, go through his progressions and not make dumb mistakes his positive plays will influence others to play better. Effective passing will open effective running. And offensive ball control will help the defense rest and keep up tempo and get back to where they’ve been before. One positive to the defense’s play so far is that in the NFC North they have given up the least amount of points (144). Problem is, the offense has only produced 142.

My pouting is over..if only momentary. I couldn’t stay away from this board indefinitely especially when I see Adam (and a few others) and I are agreeing on nearly everything going on with the Bears right now. And when I saw this article (below) from players past and their ... let’s say no-nonsense... response to yesterday’s game. I knew I wasn’t alone in my utter frustration! They speak my language. Still can’t say I’ll watch anymore games this year. https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/bears/ct-cb-chicago-bears-winners-losers-ed-obradovich-rosenthal-20191104-i3o3q7jscrf6bdm63ret3uhhra-story.html

You know they’re going to say that Montgomery doesn’t fit their offense, trade him to the Patriots for a 6th round draft pick. Then with both their 2nd round picks get a D2 running back and TE. Oh and try Kyle Long out at Center to see if he can salvage his career.
