  1. I may regret doing this but I agree that Williams is the better option. Like I noted before (think it was game two against Wash) the team was doing two person swaps throughout the game. I believe Williams and Rachal were paired up and Webb and Spencer were the other. Whenever Williams and Rachal were in it seemed that the team got better results. I did ask later, would have Webb benefited from having Rachal with him? I honestly didn't notice if the two of them worked together during the preseason. If for nothing else I want to see a first rounder (Williams in this case) do something noteworthy for his pick. And in the broader scheme of things in a few of the other games I watched where the Bears weren't playing in. I noticed several times the commentators say something along the lines of "this line needs time to gel" or "the line has been having a hard time protecting X quarterback". So is it just the Bears that are suffering this issue? Or is it becoming more the trend? Defenses are emphasizing more on the pass rush..because the NFL is becoming a "pass oriented" league these days.
  2. I can't read the link but did see a blurb on a newswire about it. FWIW, I think its unfortunate. The fact these guys were INTENTIONALLY trying to hurt other players is near criminal. And that they were ONLY suspended is being let off easy. If you or I had started a "bounty" for hurting others, we would be sitting in jail....and probably become unemployed.
  3. Well I don't necessarily like 'writing off' all lower level picks. Where would NE be now if they had dismissed their #6 in 2001? But with Okoye being a higher level pick (when he was drafted) AND the fact about how young he is, then sure I'm good with it....with some reservations..... ...if his current injury status proves worthy of concern, then the team "pissed away" a 7th round pick. At this point the jury is still out. There you are, at the meat of the matter. I am good with doing away completely with "mock drafts". To me, that is what they are...a mockery.
  4. I'm not one who normally critiques the Bears and their choices but this one befuddled me. After its all said and done the Bears gave away a 7th round draft pick for ??? I like Okoye back with the team but.... Oh well I'm willing to call it a lesson learned and hope Emery (or whoever made the choice) won't do it again
  5. With some of the calls these scab refs are making, it's more than probable. Ha ha.
  6. Da'. Just to handicap it a bit the Bears will all have one hand tied behind their backs throughout the game. And whenever the Bears have the ball it will be a torrential downpour and wind in their faces. The score? 150-1. Da'. Bearzzzz!
  7. Well considering that Conte is currently injured and Wright has a propensity for it, then if for nothing else than insurance then yes... He's probably just as good as Conte and or Wright.
  8. All this does is re-enforce the idea that maybe Emery knows what he's doing. He got Price who looks to be a contributor this year as opposed to Okoye...who doesn't for TB. When Okoye came to Chicago, I equated his arrival to a "free first round pick" (because he was once a first round pick and was/is real young). However, this goes to show that the highly "touted" 1st round picks (sometimes by the so called experts) need to be looked at beyond whether they are a first rounder or a sixth rounder. Look at what the team found in two first round players, Chris Williams and Gabe Carimi, who both had/have pre-existing health concerns (back/knee) that should degrade from where they are rated before entering their Pro career.
  9. Despite my like for Rashied Davis, hadn't really seen much from or of him. As I said in another post, if Rashied is cut as a result of keeping someone like Anderson then "oh well". I like what I've seen in Anderson. I guess I'll re-shutter up the RD fan club home office. Good luck Rashied.
  10. I'd say most definitely. He is a smart kid (Rhodes Scholar) and a part of the Rolle family. Why not?
  11. Overall I agree. Maybe put Williams back at LG, cut both Rachal and Spencer and look for one solid veteran who might be a good swing tackle or guard. The refs were horrible. Tillman got two bad calls in this game and one last week. And how about that dead clock play at the end of the 1st quarter? A lot of amateur mistakes that had it been the regular season wouldve proven costly. For what it's worth, I hope Anderson makes it. If he does I fear it will be at the expense of R. Davis. So be it. And I think Booker has earned the right to be the #3.
  12. I think you're correct. In fact, like Terra, I think Spaeth is losing value and could be gone. Rodriguez needs to work on his blocking, but he is a rook and can catch. Someone that may need to be concerned is Podlesh. Quigley looked pretty legit in his premiere.
  13. http://www.csnchicago.com/football-chicago...mp;feedID=10330 What I find interesting is that he didn't make mention of Kellen Davis when he talked about the Tight Ends. Really though, has there been much from Davis worth talking about to this point? Wasn't he supposed to be the "diamond in the rough" who this year was going to bust out? Beyond that, I could see a few possible losses in the veteran ranks that Mullin mentions, but also on the Defense as well. Probably more like the ones that were signed this last offseason (IE: Hayden, Willhite).
  14. Oh well...good luck Kahlil. We're reduced to talking about a #3 RB leaving the team over a pay issue?
  15. From what I recall, they were substituting 'two man packages' on the left side during the last game. In that, they had Williams paired with Rachal (?) and Webb paired with Spencer. Considering how bad Spencer did and it seems as though Williams did better when Rachal was with him, would Webb benefit with Rachal next to him? I feel that Webb (and the line as a whole) is better in running situations. Webb seems to lose a little ground to Williams on the passing game. Both seem to have issues in keeping the pocket from collapsing and get caught when one on one inside pressure. Oddly enough it seems funny to me that Webb being a 7th rounder is as good (or bad) as a the first rounder Williams. Anyhow, we'll see how it goes. The Giants will test the line a little more than in the previous two games.
  16. Thank you for the re-direct to "on topic". Other than he may/may not have gone to Europe earlier this year (http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/bears/14653378-606/brian-urlacher-evasive-about-reported-knee-procedure-in-germany.html) ...nothing I've heard. The fact that he is being elusive makes me wonder more about his viability for this year. Could he be trying to not discuss it too much because it's a "contract year", or because it's really nothing to worry about or....he's Brian Urlacher dammit and he doesn't give a sh*% what others think? Wait, got him mixed up with the honey badger. Anyhow, I fear his career is near done.
  17. Well the point is pretty simple, it has to do with Lovie being the third winningest coach behind two legendary coaches in a very established and storied franchise. It either points to his being successful and despite your pointing out the .552 winning percentage, that is a winning record. Or it says that over the course of the team's 93 year history they've never really had any other coaches that have measured up. So thinking ahead and if the team were to manage three winning seasons in a row let's say a 10-6 record at the very least. That would bring Lovie's record to (not counting post season record) 104-78. Which is a .571 winning percentage...and still a winning record. I assume you mean to compare the "winning percentage" mark and suggest that Lovie's doesn't "add up". Here's a few more to compare to: Jimmy Johnson (Cowboys Head Coach 1989-93) winning pct: .579 to include postseason and two super bowls; Bill Parcells (Dallas 2003-06) .531, Chuck Noll (Steelers 1969-91) .571 to include 4 super bowl wins and Tom Coughlin (NY Giants 2004-present) .589 with two Super Bowl wins.
  18. I think it worth noting that Lovie is the third winningest coach (74-60) after Halas (318-148-31) and Ditka (106-62). Considering the history of the team. For refernce Bill Cowher is 149-90-1 (.623 winning percentage)
  19. There are 40.6 million reasons to justify him playing. And for him to decide whether he wants to. If he had left the game the play before his injury, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
  20. I get that you're never going to like Lovie. Maybe that would be the best way to approach this. Beyond that, there really is no way to determine WHEN to pull a player (unless you have a fully functional crystal ball). If Urlacher plays, it's for a matter of reasons to include him wanting to and him needing to. As far as pulling Cutler, we know he's the starting QB for the team, why bother having him play anymore Pre Season games? He's proven what he needs. What if HE gets hurt? Is Lovie "stupid" for letting him play to experience different looks from different teams?
  21. THIS!! And Lucky L: As outspoken as Urlacher is, you cant convince me for one second that if he didn't want to play he would've said something.
  22. Glad to see Angelo go but again wrong about Lovie. Would you expect anything less from me?
  23. They don't "run the cover 2 that much" and just because they ran it ON THAT play means very little. Urlacher is what has made that "D" work in Chicago (and vice versa) over the course of the number of years he's played there. Cover 2 or otherwise. Would he be as effective in a 3-4 style D? Or as an OLB? A lot of what ifs. Urlacher is effective moreso BECAUSE of the cover 2 scheme, not the other way around, or at least it hasn't been proven otherwise. Where was the team really in the big scheme of things? I don't recall them being totally and completely eliminated from the playof contention until later. What if Lovie had done as you suggested? And NOT made the playoffs because of it? Instead it would've been "should have kept the starters in and given the team a fighting chance". For what its worth, the team should play EVERY game as if it means something. If they were assured a playoff spot then rest the starters, but until that time keep it as it was. These guys are payed handsomely to play a game for 16 weeks...and hopefully longer...each year.
  24. Agreed, this is a school problem. Apparently they are being scrutinized for some procedural issues and some how Pepper's name popped up. Which brings another issue where they are not to be disseminating student informationas it is deemed "confidential" yet there it is, being talked about. Perhaps I'm wrong but someone has an axe to grind and unfortunately Peppers is being drug into it. It doesn't provide anything other than rumor mongering material. The school needs to get its stuff together.
