  1. If ONLY the Bears had thrown that last game against Minnesota!!!! Ha!! Couldnt resist. I think it ludicrous to even entertain the thought. Anyhow, as much a proponent I am to NOT drafting an OLman in the first round, I might consider an exception with a player like Kalil. I think it mostly has to do with pedigree, since his brother has at least been somewhat successful if not at least consistent. However, the price that would be paid to secure a player like him would be too much, both in picks and money. So again I'd have to say no thanks.
  2. Uhm... Maybe you missed the part I included about the San Fran line not being that good, despite having THREE first rounders and two second rounders (when Rachal was a starter). Some perspective.... http://blog.sfgate.com/49ers/2012/03/30/is...e-probably-not/
  3. Not sure what it is but for some reason I keep thinking about Safety (possible MLB) Taylor Mays the Bears were looking at a year or two ago. I remember you and I both thinking that would have been a good pick up. I have the same "feel good" about this acquisition.
  4. I can't help but point out (again) that both Williams and Carimi were first round picks...picked up early in their respective drafts. They have both yet to prove themselves in their "drafted" position. And for what it's worth, I saw another poster on another site mention how horrible the San Fran oline was. Apparently they rated down near where the Bears did in "allowed sacks". And they had three first rounders and two second rounders (including Rachal). Again my opinion continues to be that OL man is not the solution ( or guarantee) at 1st round.
  5. Thank you Brian. I have to agree. So far what we do know is that he is in fact a veteran player. He was drafted a "high second round" back a few years ago. He's 26 and he came by way of relative inexpensive 1 year deal. What we don't know is how he will compare to the current Guards (OLmen) on staff.
  6. Im still of the opinion that the Bears need to consider a "skill set" player for the first round. I watched some video on Michael Floyd and thought maybe he was overrated...at first. Things I saw were big and slow, but he catches nearly everything thrown his way. And another positive (earlier paired with a negative) but BIG. 6'2" 220 lbs big. So I thought to myself as I watched these vids and got to thinking, " who does he remind me of?". Calvin Johnson. Although Calvin is bigger, 6'5" 240, he and Floyd have very similar route running, catching and leaping abilities. Not the breakaway speed some might want but then you're talking about smaller receivers. Something the team has plenty of. So all things being what they are I think Floyd would definitely be a great add for the Bears first pick.
  7. I dunno. One name pops up when I read "Pro Bowl" talent and then there are questions about the players true ability.... Brandon Meriweather . Two time Pro Bowler but where is he now? Not that he has character issues just doesn't seem able to sustain his Pro Bowl level play.
  8. I was just thinking the other day that this would be a great idea. How about a deal with Baltimore? (Har har!!)
  9. Per Twitter: JasonLaCanfora CB Kelvin Hayden agreed to terms with Bears on a 1yr deal 12 minutes ago. I like it. Should be good to have another body in CB, if for nothing else competition.
  10. I think with having Weems on ST he provides that "X factor" you've heard of. The way that Knox and D. Manning before him did. With Toub running the ST still and Weems being added, I like it. And remember its not necessarily about the KOR for TDs that count but starting field position. If Weems is able to add to that then by all means, welcome. And with Costanzo, I thought the same thing. That he reminded me of Ayanbadejo (IMHO why Hester dropped off after he left for Baltimore). But adding Costanzo is not only helping in the ST dept but also beefing up the LB corps. At this point (and most know how I LOVE mock drafts ) I'd have to speculate the team is looking at WR/CB/OL in the first few rounds.
  11. No but obviously you are a lout Were you knit stitching when you should have been purling? Everyone knows that's the proper way to mossing. How 'bout them Bears?
  12. As long as that #1 isn't an OLman right Jason? I'm sorry I couldn't resist. So about this knitting thing...
  13. Oh, the link went to the 1/4 finals and then I went back (seeing that voting closed tomorrow). Anyhow, yes it is ignorant. Yes the '76 Raiders could not hold a bucket of water next to the '85 Beloved. The '00 Ravens were probably the closest matched (and have been compared many times). But still I am happy to see that the Pack, who was vastly represented at the offset, was not in the later rounds.
  14. I dunno, from looking at the start of this bracketology where there were several Packer teams listed (and only one Bears team), I like what I see in the 1/4 finals. (No Packer teams and the same Bears team). Is it cheezy? Yep but ignorant? If it had been still dominated by Packers teams then yes it is ignorant.
  15. Not sure if it matters or is worth mentioning but Kellen Davis is from Mich State. Was a fifth round pick and is currently the team's starting TE
  16. I like this move. Something tells me Toub has something to do with some of these moves of late. First Weems then Thomas. Both are pretty well touted Special Teams players. And I think with Weems the team adds another halfway decent WR. Thomas (as just mentioned in previous posts) is a younger player with much upside and potential. And... As I read up on him, a recent Super Bowl champion. That's gotta mean something.
  17. Yes perhaps Forte is "one of the top 5" but not the best. What if Bush turns out to be just as good? What if the team gave in and paid an exorbanant amount of money to make Matt happy? But then isn't able to properly address other needs on the team because of it? What if Briggs decides to play his version of this game and because Forte gets what he wants then he too could start his latest rant? If Matt were a Walter Payton, Neal Anderson or a Gayle Sayers, I would hope the the team would do more and bend over backwards to accommodate him. But like the Colts and Manning are finding out, you're only as good as the best 53 players (not 1 or two) players that you can field. This is a business and must be addressed accordingly. Forte is a part of the machine, not just the machine. Bush and Bell might just do in the meantime and perhaps Matt is better served on another team or come to the realization that he is better off where he is.
  18. This appears to be the real reason the Pack are looking at this: http://rotoworld.com/player/nfl/6559/derek-sherrod Their 1st round pick from last year (an OT - note to Jason) doesn't appear to be able to play this year either after breaking his leg last season. Theirs (Packers) is more a case of necessity than want.
  19. Doesn't the player have to do something significant for that to happen? I'm not keeping my fingers crossed. Ha ha... Good luck Caleb. Heck id be ok if they paid me half his salary to hang out with the likes of Cutler and Manning.
  20. Signed with Denver. Closer to home? Backup to Peyton? Whoopee doo. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/rapid-reports/post/18022972
  21. At this rate and with Fortes apparent unhappiness. I say do what you can Bears to move him. They have three similar runners now in Forte, Bush and Bell. So why not? Maybe he'd enjoy playing for someone like Washington or Indy. I realize the team can't trade him until he signs something but let him know he's gone if that is really what he wants. Good luck Matty.
  22. After watching some video on Bush, I was originally of the opinion he was more like Barber less like Forte. Bush appears to run upright and catches out of the backfield pretty well. Hmmm... Almost identical. He even "jukes" a little like Forte. Couple differences, just by video, is that Bush looks faster than Forte (in the open field) and looks like he keeps his feet moving on contact, forward backward or sideways. The fact that his yardage, average YPC and TDs are similar to Forte makes me think the Bears may have just added another Forte like runner, of which they already had in Bell.
  23. Well heres how I see it Jason. Stats can be skewed how you wanna view them. (Ask politicians). For example where you see a trend of lackluster play by the Oline over the course of years you illustrate, I see that the difference between 2010 and '11 is that the line improved. And that Omiyale wasn't listed for last years lineup. My point is that of the Bears' last two 1st round picks, two were OLmen. And more specifically they were both LTs. And of the two of them, neither played more than Webb did last year at the position. Am I suggesting that Webb (a seventh rounder?) is better than both Williams and Carimi at their "natural" positions? Nope. I'm just saying that picking an OLman with the 1st pick does not guarantee success. Whereas using the 1st round pick on a skill player is a better investment. And with the other key players already in place (Cutler, Forte and Marshall) it is that much more a wiser choice.
  24. So what happened to Spencer? Seems to me that he managed to play Guard pretty well last year and is normally a Center. Yet he's not listed anywhere in your "lineup". I don't get this "panic" some are expressing here. The team was 7-3(??) before Cutler got hurt. And as Terra pointed out that was not due to an OL breakdown. Again, and it bears repeating, picking an olineman anywhere earlier than 2nd round is a wasted pick. Again this is my humble opinion but a skill player is what is needed in 1st and sometimes 2nd round. The Bears are better off looking at a WR or CB before OL in the draft. Look some more in FA for OL help. Heck we got until June.
  25. Ditto. (Scary that we agree again). Ha ha And Jason, Williams and Carimi are 1st round picks and they didn't play Tackle as much as Webb did last year. I'm just sayin.
