Been hearing good things about this Newton kid. Early on, he looks pretty legit. We'll see how he looks as the game wears on and the Bear's D starts to give pressure.

Usually I am no fan of Theisman (I think he is way too full of himself) but this time I have to say he has some good points. In essence he is challenging Roy to actually play or move on. Read today that Harris is out for "1-2 more weeks due to a hamstring injury" (source: yardbarker). Uh oh... Those are injuries are hard to get better. He could be troubled with that one for awhile...let's hope not. I believe the

I'll have to second what BF1974 had to say. If for nothing else, Pearlman has a history at being a sleaze and this book is still an opportunity for him to profit at the expense of someone who is not here to defend himself.

I too had heard the comparisons to Jim Everett and how he (Everett) had become ruined by constant bombardment. And, intersetingly enough, when I was watching Cutler these last few games I noticed some strong similarites to he and Grossman when he played in Chicago. Overthrown passes and the appearance of looking over his shoulder....aka "hearing footsteps". With Grossman, a lot of his problems were (IMHO) due to his being injured a fair amount in his first couple years. He had the issue of not being able to step into the pocket (hardly ever did) and I could never really guess if it was due to his injuries or the combination of getting rushed. I don't what he was like at Florida but I'm guessing since he was in the running for the Heisman that he did pretty well. Watching Jay of recent he seems to be a little less stoic than he had previously. Although I can't say as I blame him after the pummeling he got in New Orleans. The fact that he does somewhat stand tall and try and deliver says volumes about him. The one thing that was brought up previous is regarding his holding the ball for a bit longer than he should. I know that with Martz' offense there is a lot of timing involved and I think with Jay he is second guessing that the receiver will be available or sees them as covered. Where actually he hesitates and gets he and by default, his Oline, in trouble. The difference between Cutler and Grossman is that I think once he starts getting the reps and feels the Oline protecting more he will start to settle things a bit. He showed flashes of it last week. Last week was the first time, in a long time, that I saw him step into an open pocket instead of the back of one of the O tackles. Or worse...the grasp of a defender.

Well Connor, my two cents. I for one appreciate your input. It is usually factual and to the point. But then again so is Terra...at least 'to the point' part. And for the other "cent" I think you may be confusing 'negativity' for 'over-dramatic'. But that's just me.

I read a quick history on Wikipedia about the author, Jeff Pearlman, and it appears that not only does he thrive on telling stories about the negative aspect of athletes. He has a tendency not to tell the truth or at least not check his facts. An excerpt: "The book contains an accusation that Yankees general manager Brian Cashman was watching Jason Giambi on television and yelled at the TV that Giambi should get back on "whatever you were taking in Oakland." Contacted by reporters from New York Times, Cashman was angry and said this was made up and complained that Pearlman never called him to ask if it was true, a rule for journalists. "You think he would have done some fact-checking," Cashman said. Pearlman admitted that he should have called Cashman to check it out. Just the little bit of the above referenced article and bit o' info I've read made me think this guys a tool. Too bad he can profit from others' nasty side let alone a great Hall of Famer in Walter. Truly classless.

For what's it's worth I too thougt that Hester WOULDV'E been more valuable as trade bait back whenever that was. Notice I highlighted 'would've'. Now, all things equal, I'm glad the Bears have stuck with him. He still proves to be an X factor player. He's got the return ability and teams plan for him specifically on special teams. Many a time they have to punt away from him and cause a short field in trying to punt it away from him. (how about the diversion play at the end of thr GB game? As evidnece). He has an added dimension as a receiver too. I saw the play where Woodson held him up and another, when Knox dropped a pass, where he was wide open (I think there was also a time Cutler held the ball too long and got sacked that couldve been a big gain). All Cutler needs to do is hit him in stride and he's good to go. Speaking of ST... The Bears unquestionably got robbed in that last punt when Knox ran it back. As poor as the offense performed in the majority of the game, that was the only difference in a 3 pt game.

Sorry. It was called comparitive reasoning. You don't have to like it but that is how i was rationalizing my disdain for showing disrespect. If I offended you in doing so, then my apologies. Since you guys are convinced he WANTS to call audibles, where has he done it before? Successfully.... I can't find anything where it says whether he did or didn't at Vandy or Denver. I'm not going to insist he doesnt WANT to call audibles but I can translate his words as they are unless I have reason to believe otherwise. Is he frustrated? I would bet he is. Is part of that because he can't call audibles? Who knows?

Actually I just read today that Cutler, during a Q&aA, says he "doesn't do audibles". Not sure if he means he doesn't like to or just never thought he had to. Either way it might not be a bad idea to consider.

I'm sorry but I'm a traditionalist and this saying the team is a joke because of the ownership doesn't set well with me. The team was built by Papa Bear Halas. The team colors and history chosen by Halas. The players wear his initials on their jerseys as a symbol of respect. George chose a few things before his passing, Mike Ditka as Head Coach and his daughter Virginia to succeed him as owner. There have been good and bad times with the Bears throughout their history but one thing is constant, that there always has been a Halas somehow involved. That to me is cool, not a joke. What might be cool to others is unfortunate and if that be the case then maybe the Dolphins are more to your liking where JLo is part owner.

And there is the problem with the D that I was concerned with. Safety coverage, or lack thereof. Ouch....

I will say it and agree with more of what I am reading. The personnel appear to be a lot of the reason for the ineptitude on the Offense. I mean really, Knox over the middle...nothing but green and a defender about 5-7 yards away and........a miss. Martz is not to blame for what is going on with the Offense. Not completely. Although the Wildcat was a head scratcher.

Great to see Meriweather play well and help in that last stop. That is definitely encouraging.
