I was watching a highlight reel of Justin Fields top 50 collegiate plays recently. And although I didn't watch all 50 the first half or 2/3rds of what I saw was Fields throwing deep (30+ yards) several times over with really good accuracy. In fact, hardly anything he did seemed to be intermediate or short. There were a lot of plays where he took off and ran (several designed that way) but I think a lot of the offense was set up for him to throw deep like he did. Maybe that's why he's having a hard time processing his progressions? He's not used to looking at the underneath routes as much. With a player like Moore, its apparent he'll get a lot of the YAC that Fields is less familiar with? As BearFanPHX said, if Fields can get some of Bagent's patience in the pocket, he'll be solid.

Yeah I think I could too.

Something to monitor but evidently Mooney has been brought up as a possible trading chip. Along with continued (and confirmed) discussions of Gipson being traded. https://x.com/wiltfongjr/status/1696233595017273600?s=46&t=KrpJmhSTc4DI1sACtjisOQ

A few more olinemen gone to include recent waiver pickup Logan Steinberg, Bobby Haskins and PS alum Kellen Dietch(sp?). Another interesting drop is LB Davion Taylor who was just added via waiver pup last week. https://www.bleachernation.com/bears/2023/08/28/2023-bears-roster-cuts/

I have seen the same thing. I think he’s been more accustomed to being a mobile QB. Even in college he was moving around a lot. That is one thing Bagent had on him, he’s more truly a pocket passer, or at least looks the part. How his version interprets to true NFL speed remains to be seen.

And as Ashkum points out, we’re #1 for the waiver pickup for the next few weeks. Puts us in the catbird seat for any potential IOL casualties from other teams. And the X-itter-verse is suggesting there is a potential trade for Tevis Gipson in the works. Potentially for an IOL? ??♂️??♂️

PJ Walker gone, looks like Bagent is #2 And the Leatherwood experiment is over. Bummer. https://x.com/chgo_bears/status/1695941021899669904?s=46&t=KrpJmhSTc4DI1sACtjisOQ

So we should have an idea in the coming days how accurate this was. My money is Bagent made a good case for QB2.

Under the radar signing last week(?) of former Eagles LB Davion Taylor. Former Steelers LB and recently acquired Bears LB Buddy Johnson was released on an injury deal. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/bears-sign-lb-davion-taylor-waive-lb-buddy-johnson

Appears Gipson may be seeking a trade outta ChiTown. https://x.com/jfowlerespn/status/1695490272338006180?s=46&t=KrpJmhSTc4DI1sACtjisOQ

Teven Jenkins will miss time with stained calves

FWIW I appreciate the informative messaging. ?? -
Ha. I was watching it on NFL Network live (I have YouTubeTV) when about halfway through the broadcast it told me my free preview for Sunday Ticket was over. It flashes the cost of the new season for the Ticket and my wife looks at me…’you know you’re gonna get it, go ahead.’ She’s a good better half. Lol.

I show it’s supposed to be on NFL Network and maybe Fox(?).

The discussion about Chris Jones has been percolating just below the surface for awhile. Now ESPN is confirming there’s been a “discussion”. Im honestly not sure what I think of it. https://x.com/nflnotify/status/1695187679850418266?s=46&t=KrpJmhSTc4DI1sACtjisOQ

To be clear, the same (or very similar) freak issues can come from actually contracting COVID itself. As do a lot of other things for that matter. ??♂️ -
A huge reason he went undrafted was probably because he was DII. I have to think that players like Wentz and Lance (coming from FCS school ND State) are putting a collective bad taste in the mouths of scouts. They may have been a bit gun shy about a guy who played for the Shepard Rams. As far as production, look no further than the competition he played against. Nowhere on his collegiate record does he show wins against Alabama, LSU, Georgia or even Nebraska. And so far his single outing was against a group of 2nd and 3rd string hopefuls that he had practiced against for most of the week prior. This is not to say he couldn’t be the Mozart of football or even the next Brock Purdy. I agree with you that he sure looked good in his debut and I hope that it transfers to a long and reputable career in the NFL (as a Bears QB). I’m just holding back my excitement a bit longer. Especially since we have Justin Fields still on the team.

“Preseason is meaningless…” unless the players start getting hurt. Was half tempted to start a thread on injured players as the list seems to be growing each day . This time it’s Kmet. https://x.com/nicholasmoreano/status/1694423013364539557?s=46&t=KrpJmhSTc4DI1sACtjisOQ

The oline is quickly becoming the weakest link. -
Happened upon this on a different social media platform. For those of you bourbon types out there, specifically Maker’s Mark. https://bourbonhuntusa.com/products/maker-s-mark-chicago-cubs-limited-edition-2023

Been seeing talk of people wanting the Bears to sign current FA OG Dalton Risner. Previously a 4 year starter with Denver. And one year teammate with Whitehair while both at Kansas State. That season Risner played Center and Whitehair at Tackle. To sign a a player like Risner this late would seem like a desperation move IMHO. https://x.com/maxmarkhamnfl/status/1693508289928319055?s=46&t=KrpJmhSTc4DI1sACtjisOQ -
Yeah that was my takeaway too. I was hoping that Walker would be more of a Fields like player and be the primary backup, but after Bagent’s performance this last week it would appear he’s making the case. And oddly enough he seems more a pure pocket passer than Justin does . But again I have to limit my expectations due to Bagent playing against 2nd and 3rd stringer defenses. Maybe he gets more time this coming weekend to get more “tape” but for now he’s making a compelling case to at least be on the 53-man .

Much chatter confirming same on Xitter. Some speculate Jenkins could be out for up to 6 weeks. In comes Leatherwood to prove himself and I suspect we’ll see some of recent waiver acquisition Logan Stenberg. If after this next preseason game (or before) the Bears make another move for IOL then there’s still some decisions being made.
