Breaking News: Alan WIlliams' house and HALAS HALL raided
Alaskan Grizzly replied to BearFan PHX's topic in Bearstalk
One huge unfortunate part of all this are the players having to be distracted with all this extra “noise”. They’re having a hard enough time with their performance on the field and being called out about that then this comes along. At some point, someone(s) internally will need to lead them away from this and help keep them focused. If I had to guess, the teams legal counsel is more than likely driving how this is being handled internally. If it is an HR issue then there’s not a lot the “team” can say about it without themselves facing some form of liability. However the team’s PR group could do a better job with the flow of information (externally) and not leave it as open to interpretation. They should get with legal and ask for guidance in that regard if they haven’t already. -
Some guy made an IG reel with NFL QBs as super heroes. This was the one for “the owner”. (*Disclaimer: I may have had consumed an Old Fashioned when posting this).

For the record, I don’t see Claypool as a complete failure (yet). Sure he didn’t look great last season, lots of reasons for that of which mostly unfamiliarity with the system had to do with. Sure there was some immaturity but not completely the reason. He showed up during training camp and started to perform. He laid in egg in game one but apologized when he got called out on it and did his part in the next game (as the announcers pointed out during the game last week) and caught one of the only two TDs our team scored. And that catch was slightly tipped and changed directions just before he caught it. If he stays THAT type player, he’s a keeper.

Ain’t that the truth. ? -
I saw something earlier today that said SF is sorta in a ‘win now’ mode. Several of their key players are in the top 5 wage earners of each of their positions to include FB Kyle Jusczyk (sp?) who is the top paid FB in the league. They are saved by things like Purdy who was picked in the seventh round and still on his rookie contract. However if anyone of those key players are injured, they don’t have much depth nor money to bring in a decent veteran to help. And they aren’t sure about how they’ll go about paying for a player like Aiyuk next year as I understand he’s due a new contract. They are at a tipping point. In relation to this I like what Poles is doing and how he’s doing it through the draft. The team has been starting rookies these last two seasons in key positions and not paying a lot for players who were not drafted (Sanborn and Bagent among them). He’s trying to set a good base with young players while he works this rebuild. The results aren’t miraculous but give it time I think it’ll all come together .

Breaking News: Alan WIlliams' house and HALAS HALL raided

I saw a tweet earlier where CB Stevenson stated Eberflus hasn’t yet addressed the team. And that they are focused on playing KC. A lot of what we’ve been reading and hearing is based on conjecture. A lot of story without filling. Kind of the norm these days with how social media works. We do know that Eberflus took over defensive play calling last weekend. We know since then Williams has resigned. We know his reasons cited ‘health and family’. We also know the organization has claimed ‘no one raided Halas Hall (at least not the FBI). However this evidently occurred over the last week as well (below). To say this team doesn’t have a lot of potential distractions would be outright wrong. -
Hardly anyone here predicted much better than a .500 season. Many of us were (are) hopeful they’d do better. At any rate, things are still on course to at least make that mark of “mediocre” which unfortunately would be an improvement to last year. And many have said, Poles included, this is a rebuild. I agree they can’t go much lower than they have and as the old adage goes, there’s only one way to go.

I think part of that ‘story’ had to do with Tillman potentially going to Halas Hall to notify the team of what was occurring. And where you may have read that Eberflus’ response was extreme disbelief and was “tearful”. -
Meh...stats are what you make them. I think I saw somewhere else where Justin and Josh Allen were comparable at the same points in their careers, until this year. Even then, besides the number of starts over their respective careers (Allen 79 to Fields 29) there isn't a HUGE disparity between the two...well except maybe the sack totals. https://www.statspros.com/josh-allen-vs-justin-fields-stats/ At any rate, I've seen a few X-weets out there that mention our team has only had one winning season since Lovie was fired in 2010 and that was after he compiled a 10-6 record that year. Surely at some point our team is destined to have a winning record again? What's to say Justin couldn't turn things around?

I could see them going after any available above average rated Oline FA at this point. Although I did read Nate Davis returned to Halas Hall today so that’s good to see.

Peterman was released today as well. Bagent is now #2. ??♂️

Interesting Press Conference from Fields Today
Alaskan Grizzly replied to BearFan PHX's topic in Bearstalk
Ironically he’ll be playing against the current master of improv in Mahomes. You think all the off foot and shovel pass throws he makes are designed by Reid? My guess is Reid draws out the play and says use this as a guideline (I’m paraphrasing of course). I agree it looks as though the coaching staff is trying to make Fields more a pocket passer and after all the years of him not being a pocket passer are working against this. They need to let him be him. He knows the consequences and is quite aware of what people have been saying. The worst that will happen is we’ll continue to lose and Bagent will probably get called up at some point. Let Justin be Justin. -
Interesting news on the Williams front. Evidently both Williams’ residence and Halas Hall were “raided” as of late. And when they say raided, they mean FBI. As an aside, for those that may recall “Peanut” Tillman joined the FBI after retiring. Associated story: https://www.bleachernation.com/bears/2023/09/20/halas-hall-alan-williams/

He’s had a formidable defense (in SF and in NYJ) to back up his chops . Things looked good (for him) when the “owner” signed on and just like that they were staring at having to go back to Zach Wilson. We’ll see if he can string together some wins despite it. His situation currently isn’t all that much different than Flus. I’m concerned (not giving up … yet) that Flus’ defense isn’t up to par. You need at least one phase to produce to succeed. So far, none have.

I’m not sure whether you knew this (and you’re being facetious) or it was pure coincidence but apparently Collingsworth owns PFF. I just learned this this morning when listening to LeBatard and Stugotz. -
Because it’s doomsday Monday, I found an entertaining X-Tweet (below). Turns out he’s 16th overall in passing yards, *but tied for second with 5 other QBs for INTs - Josh Allen among them.

Good analysis. From what I saw in this video, Getsy was calling plays to try and help Justin. IE: Right after he 'got blasted two times in a row' he called a quick release play to try and help him not have to read the field too long. Even earlier on when you saw some of the plays develop Justin should have hit the receiver the design was there for him to succeed. So I'm more hesitant to blame all of this on playcalling. However I would say as much as Justin is to blame for a lot of the miscues there were a few times highlighted in this that the supporting cast didn't do their part either. Kmet's drop on the sideline and Claypool not executing his break as examples of that. For whatever reason Justin came out early and played well but became blinded after the first series. I would agree to some level that he is regressing which to me is a HUGE disappointment. I also agree with this analyst's view that a change (probably at QB) is coming soon. As the old saying goes, the Chicago fans favorite QB is the backup QB.

Welcome back Mad. Glad to see you around again. A neighbor or mine is a huge fan of the Lagavulin whisky and I always think of how you loved the stuff when he brings it out. ?

I would normally say this is crazy but things like this worked for the Saints when they had Brees and Hill playing together. Deebo Samuel is a gadget player of sorts and works great in the SF scheme. Maybe something to it. It’s not like you couldn’t use him more as a RB anyhow. He did get over 1,000 yards last year. ??♂️
