  3. He will be since Dusty went on IR Baldwin,Clermond are cut
  4. Wesson44

    Johnny Knox

Yes he is and we need to use him in that way DEEP!!!!!
  5. The coaches didn't play Davis tonight for some reason(he made the team or they are going to cut him) other than he is a starter.
  6. Quarterbacks (2): Jay Cutler, Caleb Hanie. When you have an elite quarterback, it's easy to go with just two. The team will look for a third for the practice squad and consider Brett Basanez. Running backs/fullbacks (5): Matt Forte, Kevin Jones, Garrett Wolfe, Adrian Peterson, Jason McKie. It's been an uphill battle for Peterson, but he ran very well at Denver and always has been reliable on special teams. ''I just show up on film,'' Peterson said when asked how he evaluated his chances. ''If they stick me out on the field, I am going to show up. I'm going to let the chips fall where they do. I'm not losing sleep over anything.'' Jones hasn't sparkled in preseason, but the Bears go with an extra back instead of a fourth tight end in Michael Gaines. Will Ta'ufo'ou could be targeted for the practice squad. Wide receivers (6): Devin Hester, Earl Bennett, Devin Aromashodu, Rashied Davis, Juaquin Iglesias, Johnny Knox. If draft status had nothing to do with it, Brandon Rideau would stick ahead of Iglesias, but the Bears will put him on the Bennett redshirt plan. Aromashodu plays faster than Rideau and has been a preferred target for Cutler. Davis hasn't gotten the ball much at all but has too much value on special teams and can play the slot in the event Bennett is injured. ''I don't know what is going to happen when the roster spots start getting filled,'' Davis said. ''But I definitely feel good about where I am at. I've gotten better every year at special teams. That's ... one of the pluses for me.'' Tight ends (3): Greg Olsen, Desmond Clark, Kellen Davis. The addition of Gaines to the mix did one thing: It lit a fire under Davis, who wasn't as visible in camp as a year ago but is an improved player. Gaines just didn't show up a whole lot and can't contribute on special teams like some of the reserve running backs. Offensive line (8): Orlando Pace, Frank Omiyale, Olin Kreutz, Roberto Garza, Chris Williams, Kevin Shaffer, Josh Beekman, Dan Buenning. Only eight linemen would have stuck last season, but Williams was carried while he recovered from back surgery. The depth provided by Shaffer, Beekman and Buenning, and their versatility, is a real plus. Lance Louis and Cody Balogh could be targeted for the practice squad. Defensive line (10): Alex Brown, Anthony Adams, Tommie Harris, Adewale Ogunleye, Mark Anderson, Henry Melton, Israel Idonije, Marcus Harrison, Jarron Gilbert, Matt Toeaina. The suspense of a move here was erased when Dusty Dvoracek was lost for the season. Toeaina has practice-squad eligibility remaining, but tackles are hard to find -- meaning he sticks. Linebackers (6): Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs, Pisa Tinoisamoa, Nick Roach, Jamar Williams, Hunter Hillenmeyer. Undrafted free agent Kevin Malast has been as impressive as any rookie on the roster and could force the coaching staff into a long, hard decision because he might not make it through waivers to bring him back to the practice squad. Fifth-round pick Marcus Freeman did little in camp or during the preseason and becomes one of the rare non-seventh-rounders that Angelo cuts ties with quickly. Defensive backs (10): Charles Tillman, Zack Bowman, Danieal Manning, Kevin Payne, Nathan Vasher, D.J. Moore, Corey Graham, Rod Hood, Al Afalava, Craig Steltz. Hood is no guarantee to make the roster, but he will be an upgrade over Trumaine McBride. Steltz has taken quite a dip since the offseason program ended, but he can help out on special teams and will know where to line up if needed in a pinch. Cornerback Woodny Turenne did not play last week at Denver, and that might be because the Bears want him to fly under the radar, right onto their practice squad. Specialists (3): Robbie Gould, Pat Mannelly, Brad Maynard. No surprises here. To hear Smith say it, there really won't be any surprises anywhere. ''I think each year you like a lot of players -- but in the end, the separation happens,'' he said. ''They distinguish themselves, and they tell you who should be on the roster. And I think the same thing will happen this year
  7. My bet is Payne and Afalava starting and Manning as the nickel
  8. With Jones 6'6 and Olsen 6'5 we can have great mismatches in the in the secondary and against lb. And oh what red zones targets.
  9. Bears lose to the steelers ha ha ha. The steelers do not match up well with the Bears now. Sure they have a good defense but it can be beaten with the Te and underneath stuff. The line just has to block the edge rushers.Their offense is just Ward & Holmes and if you rush Big Ben he will make mistakes. Plus their specials teams are nothing to write home about. So we win on field position and specialteams. 20-17
  10. Is it safe to say that with the addition of Hood that maybe Burgess,Turenne, McBride, Deleston, Moore and Bullocks are all cut next week with Tillman going on the PUP list?
  11. Bears | 10 on bubble to make team Comment (0) Wed, 02 Sep 2009 20:35:18 -0700 David Haugh, of the Chicago Tribune, reports Chicago Bears QB Brett Basanez, FB Jason S. Davis, TE Michael Gaines, WR Brandon Rideau, OL Cody Balogh, DT Matt Toeaina, DE Ervin Baldwin, LB Kevin Malast, CB Trumaine McBride and S Craig Steltz are on the bubble to make the team's final roster.
  12. LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) - Rashied Davis figured there's not much more he could do to solidify his role and, for that matter, a spot on the Chicago Bears' roster. Devin Aromashodu had an idea. "I sent flowers to all the coaches, to keep me in mind," he said Tuesday. More important is staying in sight. With one preseason game left against Cleveland on Thursday, these are uncertain times for many Bears players. Particularly at wide receiver, one of the biggest question marks on a team with playoff aspirations - and where the third slot is open. Now that Jay Cutler is behind center, the Bears finally have a franchise quarterback to go with one of the game's top young running backs in Matt Forte and two solid tight ends in Gregg Olsen and Desmond Clark. But those wide receivers? In Denver, Cutler had Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal. In Chicago, only two of the eight receivers on the roster has more than seven receptions and one of them (Devin Hester) had trouble grasping the offense while the other (Davis) had trouble grasping the ball last season. Earl Bennett did not even catch a pass as a rookie, so it wasn't hard to see why the calls for an upgrade were loud. The big move, of course, was at quarterback. If there's a big improvement at receiver, it will likely have to be from within. "They've got a lot to prove," Cutler said. "They're hungry. They're excited. They want to go out there and do well. They're going to come to practice each and every day and work hard and listen to exactly what the coaches are saying, exactly what I'm saying, make sure everyone gets on the same page." Although the Bears could still bring in a veteran, Cutler doesn't expect that to happen. So for now, Hester and Bennett, Cutler's college teammate, appear to have the top two spots locked in with the third spot hanging there like a high pass for Davis, Aromashodu and Brandon Rideau. With three receptions each, they're about even statistically in the preseason although Aromashodu has a slight edge in yards (46) thanks to a 38-yarder from Cutler in the second preseason game against the New York Giants. He also has drawn praise from the quarterback. Davis has 28 yards so far, not to mention the most experience and a role on special teams. Rideau (25 yards) has looked good in practice, but that hasn't translated to success during games. "They told me early in camp that I've got an opportunity and they want to see me make big plays and this is pretty much what I've tried to do," said Rideau. But he hasn't had many chances since he entered the league with Cleveland in 2005. He has appeared in just two games, both with the Bears last season, and Aromashodu spent most of his first three seasons on the sideline. Has he done enough to make the team? "In my position, you can never do enough," said Aromashodu, who appeared in six games for Indianapolis in 2007. Davis, meanwhile, isn't sure he could do more. "I've done what I could with the reps I've been given," he said. "That's all I could say." A year ago, Davis made 12 starts and finished with 455 yards, but drops were a big problem. This after four seasons in the AFL. When he landed with the Bears in 2005, he was a cornerback. The move to receiver didn't come until the following season, and he's managed to hang on even though he was working at Best Buy at one point before he got to Chicago. "I've always had to fight for my job since walking onto this field," said Davis. "It's no more difficult than any other time for me." Last year, he admitted, he was distracted. His daughter was born and there were some other non-football issues diverting his attention. He also was playing a big role on special teams, and it might have been a little too much for him. "I felt honored to have all that responsibility, but at some point, it was a little overwhelming," Davis said. "I wore down a little bit, playing a lot on offense and a lot of special teams. That probably wore me down a little bit more than I would have hoped."
  13. Yes you maybe right, but look at Benson with the Bengals....haven't heard much out of him trouble wise or Williams(pot head) with the Fins. He could work if Cutler gets in his face alond with lovie and the rest of the crew.
  14. Sure would be better than Hamilton, McBride, & Bullocks
  15. Getting Zack Bowman and Danieal Manning back on the field before the start of the regular season is a priority for the Bears and both are scheduled to play in Thursday night's exhibition finale against Cleveland. As they have nursed hamstring injuries, neither has played in the team's first three exhibitions. It remains unclear how much the two are expected to play at Soldier Field, although Manning is likely to see time at nickel back and not free safety. "We're going to be together at the right time," Manning said of the secondary after Sunday's game. "I know we will be ready for the regular season. I don't feel like [the defensive backs] are going to be the weak link. I know the talent we have. I know how hungry we are." Veteran Charles Tillman will not play in the final exhibition as he recovers from back surgery. It remains unclear whether he will return for the Sept. 13 opener at Green Bay, although Tillman could be removed from the physically-unable-to-perform list at any time. Jinx time? Now the Bears have to beat the Sports Illustrated jinx too. In its NFL preview edition to hit newsstands Wednesday, SI picks the Bears to win the NFC North. It explains how the Bears have changed their offense in a feature story written by Lee Jenkins, but also cautions fans not to put too much stock in the Bears having the NFL's easiest schedule. "Thank the Lions for that strength-of-schedule ranking, but in truth Chicago faces some potential pitfalls," Jenkins writes. "Fans who expect Jay Cutler to come out blazing may be disappointed when he's tested by two strong pass defenses at the outset. Later the Bears visit San Francisco in a short week, facing a team eager to make coach Mike Singletary look good against his old club on national TV." By the way, Packers fans shouldn't get too upset: Aaron Rodgers is on the cover. New face: Veteran cornerback Rod Hood, who signed a one-year deal with the Bears, participated in his first practice with his new team Tuesday. He also could be a nickel back. "They really haven't told me what's expected," Hood said. "I know they want me to come in and compete and be aggressive." Extra points: Devin Hester sat out practice but said it was just rest. Israel Idonije (hamstring), Henry Melton (ankle) and Kellen Davis (undisclosed) also sat out. ... Coach Lovie Smith didn't totally rule out bringing back nose tackle Dusty Dvoracek, who suffered a season-ending ACL tear and has been waived. ... To make room for Hood, the Bears released receiver Derek Kinder, a rookie seventh-round pick.
  16. Linebacker is a definite strength of this 2009 version of the Chicago Bears. Lance Briggs is a perennial Pro Bowler, Brian Urlacher is one of the better middle backers in the game, and newly named starting strongside LB Pisa Tinoisamoa has me wondering what the Rams were thinking in releasing him. Tinoisamoa (does this guy have a nickname yet) has quickly become a fan favorite. His speed and big hits have endured him to the fans, and his versatility (he played weakside LB in the past) could pay dividends in the long run. The three starters are great fits for the Bears scheme. Last year the Bears opened up with 6 LB's on the roster, and I expect them to do the same this year. Who will open up as the Back-ups? After the jump I'll throw in my 2 cents... As it sits right now the Bears have 10 LB's on the roster, if they go with 6 again as I think they will, they'll have some tough decisions to make. Your reserve LB's all will need to be core special teamers, so how well they play there will go a long way in deciding who stays. I think it's safe to say undrafted rookie free agents Mike Rivera and Kevin Malast are gone. I think newly signed Darrell McGlover was simply brought in because the Bears had a few LB's nursing injuries, so I expect him to be cut. Although based on his past special teams success, it wouldn't surprise me to see him make the final 53. Of the remaining 4 guys (Hunter Hillenmeyer, Nick Roach, Jamar Williams, and rookie Marcus Freeman) fighting it out for 3 spots, I think Williams is the surest bet to stick. Before his recent injury setback he was always getting his name dropped by the coaches as being a standout performer. His ability to play all 3 LB spots is a plus for him as well. Nick Roach was a surprise starter last year after Hillenmeyer went down, and as recently as last week Roach was listed as a tri-starter (is that a word?) at the SLB with Tinoisamoa and Williams, so my guess is Roach is safe. Which leaves it between the rookie and the veteran. Has Freeman shown enough on special teams to make the squad? Last year Hillenmeyer, after being replaced in the starting lineup, was a solid special teams player. Defensively Freeman's been working exclusively at weakside LB, while Hillenmeyer can play all 3 LB positions. Do the Bears go with the sure thing in Hillenmeyer, or go with the potential of Freeman? If it were my decision to make, I'm keeping Hunter. I like his versitality, I think he can be trusted to do his job if he were thrust in the starting lineup at any position, and his football IQ has always been a strength of his. Financially speaking, cutting or keeping him would do very little to the salary cap moving forward, so if he is let go I can't see the money being a factor. Freeman might be a candidate for the practice squad if he isn't claimed, but if he is signed away, you can find an athletic LB to groom on the practice squad a lot easier than you can find a trusted veteran to contribute to your team. With that being said... my guess is that HIllenmeyer will get cut. I think they'll go with youth, with the thought that their starting trio will see so much action, they can afford to go with the upside Freeman brings. What does everybody think?
  17. Bears have interest in Chris McAllister by WCG on Sep 2, 2009 3:06 PM CDT 12 comments With the Bears pick up of Rod Hood they are helping the depth of the Bears secondary, especially with Charles Tillman and Zackary Bowman still working with injuries, but they might not be done. According to a small bit at the end of this article, the Bears have looked at at least one other: A league source also said the Bears have inquired about Chris McAlister, the former Pro Bowl performer for the Baltimore Ravens who has worked his way back from knee surgery. It is unclear when during the offseason they inquried about him. This may now be dead news. At one time McAllister was one of the premiere cornerbacks in the league. At this point I don't know how much he has left.
  18. IMHO Marshall wants to come here to the Bears!!!! Why else would he be doing what he's doing. He saw what happened to Cutler and is doing the same just to get out of Denver to try to get back with the best QB he has ever had.
  19. They are loaded at WR IMHO
  20. I just can't see all three from our division going to the playoffs this year, I think the Bears and Vikings will be it
  21. Bears | Have expressed interest in M. Jones Comment (0) Wed, 02 Sep 2009 14:42:23 -0700 Adam Schefter, of ESPN, reports the Chicago Bears have expressed interest in unrestricted free-agent WR Matt Jones (Jaguars).
  22. If we sign Hood that means Hamilton and McBride, and maybe Vasher might be cut
  23. hAVING A FEELING OF A WINNING TEAM WILL DO THAT TO YOU. lol
  24. We play a cover two which prevents the long pass plays.
  25. IMHO we don't need him at all.......for what?
