JA says that "we will monitor it" looking at the Plax situation, but my take on it is this,if you have no interest in him why monitor the situation? JA is just putting out a smokescreen here. If your QB of the future wants a certain guy to throw to would you be stupid enough not to get that guy when you know it will make your team better? I think not "As I said, we'll look at every option," Angelo said. "[His] situation is different because there are circumstances. We'll monitor it. ... He could help any team."

IMHO i feel the same as you do, but if he can catch and has speed faster then Hester/Knox bring him in and see what's right or wrong with him...can't hurt.

Hey who knows, maybe in a different system like our he might be ok

Said Bears G.M. Jerry Angelo, “I feel good about the secondary, if we can stay healthy. I like the safeties. Craig Steltz should take a step this year. Kevin Payne got a lot of playing time last year. I even like the guy we took in the sixth round [Al Afalava]. We picked up Josh Bullocks, who has a good play history as well.”

The Lions signed DE Ryan Kees, an undrafted rookie, and released OL Junius Coston and WR Will Franklin. Will Franklin, WR, Missouri Franklin is an under-the-radar prospect, as he wasn't the main option in an offense that featured two of the nation's top tight ends in Martin Rucker and Chase Coffman and saw the emergence of speedy freshman Jeremy Maclin. Even though he wasn't a primary option, Franklin put up solid numbers throughout his four-year career, with 143 catches, 2,125 yards receiving, and 13 touchdowns. His best season was in 2006, when he caught 48 passes for 829 yards (17.3 yards per catch) and six touchdowns. Given that he wasn't in the limelight at Mizzou, Franklin needed to take advantage of pre-draft opportunities to boost his stock, and he did. At the combine, he ran one of the fastest 40 times, clocking in at 4.37 seconds. At Missouri's Pro Day, Franklin showed tremendous jumping ability with a 40 1/2 inch vertical and a broad jump of 10 feet, 11 inches. With his combination of size, speed, and athleticism, Franklin has real big-play ability and the potential to be a productive receiver in the NFL. With his combine and Pro Day showings, Franklin's stock has moved from likely a fourth-round pick, at best, to where there's a good chance he'll be taken in the third round

I like your thinking but B.Edwards? He isn't the guys with the best of hands bit who knows. Our problem is we try to make WR out of DB'S and DB'S out of WR. But if we get Plax its lights out for the oppossing teams defense, Plax Hester J.I ,Bennett,Kinder, Knox/Davis will kill them!! Not to mention like you said Olsen/Clark and Forte..........where is the Kool=Aid!!!!!

Bears | Ogunleye, Idonije unlikely to land new deals this season Comment (0) Mon, 18 May 2009 05:40:49 -0700 Vaughn McClure, of the Chicago Tribune, reports Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo sounded somewhat apprehensive when asked about the possibility of rewarding DL Adewale Ogunleye and DL Israel Idonije with new contracts this season. Both players are in contract years. "We did quite a bit last year if memory serves me right," Angelo said. "I think we were unprecedented in terms of all the people we did extensions with so, in part, that made fewer players come up. But those that do well, we'll definitely do what we've always done in the past. I've always said this, 'They take care of their business and business takes care of itself.'"

I think you need to go easy on the Kool-aid until we get to at least 11-0 then I will give you 15-1. LOL But we will be at least 11-5 with Lovie calling the defense, better players on special teams, more....well better hands and speed at the WR position a TE/FB that can block ,Pace Williams, Oymi and Shaf on the line oh and now the Cutler experience.
-
Not to mention the our Superstar Cutler also likes him. He called him after we traded for him to see if Plax wanted to play for the Bears. Sounds like Cutler knows what he needs in terms of a WR to get us were we need to be. But that would look good on paper Burress one one side Hester on the other. With or without him I think our WR are going to be special this year with Cutler because he can sramble to keep plays alive unlike Grossman & Orton did. Oh but have you seen Cutler throw on the run......dang we are going deep!!!!

Bears remain 'Plex-ible' at WR By Vaughn McClure | Tribune reporter May 18, 2009 Bears fan Tony Tudisco from Aurora put himself on the hot seat Sunday when he inquired how Jay Cutler would thrive "without any receivers to throw to." Bears general manager Jerry Angelo fired back. "Sounds like you're from Wisconsin," Angelo said sarcastically. The receiver question was sure to surface as spirited diehards gathered for the annual Bears Expo. But before the festivities began, Angelo discussed a possibility he previously had dismissed: Plaxico Burress. "As I said, we'll look at every option," Angelo said. "[His] situation is different because there are circumstances. We'll monitor it. ... He could help any team." Cutler has reached out to Burress, and agent Drew Rosenhaus recently said at least two teams are seriously interested in signing the former New York Giant. The Jets are likely one of them. "Are we one of those two teams? No," Angelo said. Burress, released by the Giants on April 3, has a June 15 hearing stemming from felony gun charges. He accidentally shot himself in the thigh in November at a Manhattan nightclub. He could face jail time and if not, at least a league suspension. "Obviously there are things that have to happen for him to play in the league, get on with his life," Angelo said. Prior to the draft, Angelo said Burress was not an option. The Bears enter Wednesday's first day of organized team activities with Devin Hester as their lead receiver followed by Earl Bennett and Rashied Davis. "We are very comfortable with the receivers that we have," Angelo said.

Well don't hate me because I used the worlds of our head coach.. Look at what he had just said at the last event.....that we won't change what we do scheme wise just because we have Cutler. But our passing game will keep us above water. Lovie said we will win with oue improved defense and special teams and then he said we wil win some games with our offense. So to me that is the same formula we have been using since he got here.
-
LOL....well that should have said at least 11-5. I would love to go 16-0 and be the toast of the NFL but I don't want to drink too much Kool-aid to fast it's a long season so I have to pace myself to fight off all these Bear haters!!! My wife is from I hate to say this one the board by she is from Pittsburg and will not let me live the "one for the thumb" down

I agree with you about the catches they wil be up. I think we have had more passes due to the fact that we are coming from behind alot with theose seasons 7-9, 9-7. When we are ahead we run the ball to control the clock. i have to say this cutler will give our WR better chences to catch the ball

With a 41-23 record, the New York Giants are the only NFC team to register more wins than the Bears (40-24) over the past four seasons.

Agent: At least two teams interested in Burress by Staten Island Advance Friday May 15, 2009, 4:02 PM Drew Rosenhaus, the agent for former Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress, reported on his Twitter page that at least two NFL teams are interested in signing Burress. (AP) Former Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress has drawn interest from at least two NFL teams his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, reported on his Twitter page on Friday. Burress, who is embroiled in a legal storm following an accidental shooting inside a Manhattan night club, was released by the club in April. "Ran wind sprints with Plaxico Burress," Rosenhaus wrote on Friday. "There are at least 2 teams that are very serious about signing him so he has stayed in great shape." He then updated Burress' status later in the afternoon, writing: "Plaxico got a call from an NFL head coach yesterday and he will be meeting with senior NFL executives in the near future." It's pure speculation as to which teams have spoken with Rosenhaus about Burress, but the Jets did kick the tires right around the draft, and RotoWorld.com is saying that another possible team could be the Chicago Bears, who just acquired strong-armed QB Jay Cutler and are in need of a deep threat for him.

IMHO those numbers would be nice for our passing game but you forgot one thing. We are a running team and "get off the bus runing, " so there is no way Hester has 65 catches
-
Trust me that 16-16 will change this year when we go at least 11-5
-
IMHO AP is still the man. Wolfe has skills but what you ask him to do is limited as with AP. AP can run up the middle and outside. Wolfe can't run up the middle without getting killed. Wolfe is good on special teams, some what better than AP but the size of Wolfe is the biggest concern. Can he handle the blitz like AP can...no can he run up the middle like AP.....no, so the choice is that....AP. We are a running team....but if Jones and or Forte go down Wolfe can not be that back to carry the ball in the middle like the way we run Wolfe will be hurt after the third game when team figure his style out. Just like Forte and Jones, AP can run over you and through arm tackles. Wolfe not so.

They need to pay this year to see if they are worthy of the payday.

Cutler will have moret targets to throw to In Clark/Olsen at TE, Forte/Jones at RB, Hester,Bennett(favorite from college)Iglesias, Knox(speedy),Kinder, Davis and or Rideau than his 90 passes to Royal and ???? to Marshall. Looking at ur WR'S we are going to be a threat DEEP and mid range with the WR and short to middle with the TE'& RB. This means a better passing game.
-
Not to mention Knox, Kinder, Davis/Rideau I think we keep six WR
-
ME too!!!!!!!! IMHO last year we were 9-7 with Orton and Hester/Forte this year we will be at least 11-5 with Cutler and Forte and Hester/J.I.

College Quarterbacks Love Bears Rookie Wide Receivers Posted May 13, 2009 3:00PM By Matt Snyder (RSS feed) After the Bears landed Jay Cutler in early April, the focus of many fans and media alike shifted to the receiving corps. Devin Hester, Rashied Davis and Earl Bennett will need some help, and no one can doubt that. Since then, the Bears have seen Torry Holt sign with the Jags, not traded for Anquan Boldin -- probably because they don't have enough to offer -- and drafted three second-day wide receivers. Over the course of the past week, the Chicago Tribune has conducted interviews with the three respective quarterbacks of the three drafted wideouts. As can be expected, those interviews unearthed rave reviews. According to Heisman trophy-winning Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford, Bears third-round pick Juaquin Iglesias has been nationally overlooked and will make a smooth transition to the NFL. He's also got a big-game knack, according to Bradford. "I also think you have to look at the fact that he caught two touchdown passes in our Big 12 Championship game. He wasn't fazed by the big games. In fact, he played well in those circumstances. That means a lot to a championship team.'' Billy Malone, the man who quarterbacked the Bears sixth-round pick at Abilene Christian, owes more than a quarter of his career passing yards to Johnny Knox. According to Malone, Knox possesses all-world speed and has enough strength to complement the speed at the next level. "Everybody talks about his speed, but what people don't know is Johnny has such strong hands,'' Malone said. "He's just got that grown man upper-body strength. "I guess at the next level, they talk about if receivers can get off of press coverage or whatever. With his strength and speed, he should have no problem. He's going to do well for the Bears." In the seventh round, the Bears selected Derek Kinder from Pittsburgh. Kinder was really blossoming as a go-to receiver before tearing his ACL before his senior season. When he finally got a season year last season, he wasn't fully recovered until the end of the season. Bill Stull, Kinder's quarterback at Pitt, notes how much stronger Kinder came away from the injury. "The one thing I think Derek learned from his experience was mental toughness,'' Stull said. "Just going through a major adversity ... that's something he never had to deal with here before." Stull also noted that Kinder showed his speed was back when running the 40 in the "4.4s" during Pittsburgh's Pro Day. Now, let's be real for a second. Obviously, the quarterbacks who got to throw to eventual NFL draft picks in college are going to fall over themselves praising guys who probably made them look good more often than not. They likely even have good friendships with the respective receivers. Still, you can take some of the statements and logically read something from them. Bradford spoke about Iglesias' ability to learn a tough system quickly, make difficult catches and step up on the big stage. It's true, Iglesias did prove himself on college football's biggest stages. Mental toughness and great hands are things the Bears need -- and many scouts pointed out they believed Iglesias to be a steal late in the third round. As far as with Kinder and Knox, the prospects of one of the two sticking with the Bears in the future sounds realistic. Knox is a guy who has loads of talent but hasn't showcased it against top-level competition. Kinder was growing into a star in the Big East -- 57 catches for 847 yards and 6 touchdowns his junior year -- before a season-ending injury. He's now a full season removed from it and has shown the drive and tenacity one needs to survive in the NFL. While it would still be nice if the Bears still found a way to swing a deal for Boldin, the prospects of developing the young receiving corps under Cutler -- and teaming them them with the ball-catching skills of Greg Olsen and Matt Forte -- seems a bit more enticing when looking toward the future than coughing up tons of money and draft picks.

IMHO a blocking TE/FB would make all of our backs better.........can we get one plese! Is maybe Gains the answer?

Simeon Rice Says He’s A “Super Hero With No One To Save” Posted by Mike Florio on May 13, 2009, 7:05 a.m. Former NFL defensive end Simeon Rice wants to drop the “former.” And he’s telling anyone who’ll listen. Unfortunately, the group of curious ears has yet to include one or more of the 32 franchise that constitute the league. Most recently, Rice made his case for a comeback on Sporting News Radio’s The Monty Show. “I’m really in playoff shape right now, it’s bananas that I’m not on a team right now,” Rice said. “It’s great in a way but its frustrating. I feel like a freak of nature, like a super hero with no one to save.” Specifically, Rice wants to save the Bears. (Maybe he plays receiver now.) “That’d be a nice situation, you’ve got Rod Marinelli up there and it’s a good situation if it can get around that way,” Rice said. It’s not clear if the Bears are interested. Apparently, however, other as-yet-unknown teams are. “I talked to my agent two days ago and he said we’ve got some takers that’s been calling and that’s a good thing,” Rice said. “It’s like a surgeon that goes through medical school and prepares and starts putting the work in and doing his rotations and not having anywhere to place the skills. And my skill set is sharp, my ability is as good as it’s ever been, talent wise I haven’t lost anything and now all I have to do is just add my talent, my ability, my thirst for the game to a team that wants to do something special. I mean I’m talking about doing something special this season man.” He might very well do something special this season. But it might very well happen in the UFL.
