Pass the kool-aid Wesson!! Seriously, sometimes OL's take years to gell. With 40% changeover and Tait moving back to right may be a stumbling block. My hope is that Miller was so bad and Brown was so hurt it won't matter. The key is Williams. If he is a player, it works. If not, we'll be drafting early next year. I'm on the half full side. Totally agreed on the D, especially if M. Brown can contribute.
 -
Thank you! The title was quite enough. I'm looking for a possible starting OG, backup OT and 3rd QB. Possibly a WR, if they are high enough caliber.
 -
Here's my thoughts for what they are worth. We fixed every aspect on the team via the draft, except QB. So, my thinking is that JA and Co think that we are still in the window of opportunity. They saw Tom Brady look like anything but Tom Brady in the Super Bowl. Why? Because Tom Brady was on his back. Similarities exist with any QB we threw out there last year. What I'm saying is, any QB looks normal if his support is not there. They drafted an LT that essentially strengthens 2 OL spots. They draft the best blocking RB in the entire draft, thus protecting the QB more. The added bonus is that Forte is rated as a complete 3 down package and we don't know what's going on with Benson. They drafted WR in the 3rd because we lost Moose and Berrian. Berrian really hurt, but I agree with not paying him that much to be a pussy and not fight for the ball. So, they addressed every support function to Rex/Kyle and are hoping they inprove. Then the experiment will finally be over if it fails, thus the one and two year deals respectively. Screw Peter King, he's really said some jackass things the last couple of years.
 -
Absolutely. Rex and Kyle are young and injury free at this point. Benson is rehabbing from a career threatening injury. We don't know if he's lost his ability or not. Plus, added motivation will bring out whether Benson wants to be a football player or not. This should remove any sense of entitlement he feels he has. If he's a pissy bitch about it - done. That question is beside the point , but I'll answer it anyway. The answer is no, but JA and Lovie decided that fixing other areas will improve our QB play. I am doubtful, but understand the the franchise QB will be addressed next year if the plan flops. At that point we are another year behind. You had me until you said AP and stud in the same sentence. Agreed, and that was my stated wish all along. Agreed also, we just don't know. Maybe a deal was close and we got screwed. Anyway, Other than the top 4 QB's, I just don't see a franchise guy out there. Weak year for QB's - IMO.

Which rookies will make impacts this season?
Mongo3451 replied to Bears4Ever_34's topic in Bearstalk
I think the 1st 5 picks will contribute early and often. Ranking them in the order they were picked. -
I thought it was rather "blunt" myself. I think they are saying it is more valuable to (one:) provide insurance if Benson's rehab is not good, (two:) provide REAL competition for Benson in camp. IE: AP and Wolfe have no ability to do that. I'd rather have Forte than Brohm or Henne. And I really wanted them to make a play for Henne by trading up for an extra 2nd rounder.
 -
I loved the Williams and Forte picks.(I had them both on my day 1 wish list) My only prayer on day one was that JA would package a couple of picks to get another 2nd rounder and pick Chad Henne. I just think he is a guy that would take over NEXT year and be our QB for the next 12-15 years. I looks again that JA is drafting red-shirt candadates with promise. My only true critique is that we didn't use one of the 3rd's or a 4th on an OG. Overall, I like the draft. B+. If JA picks a quality cap cut at OL, this draft will be an A-.
 -
Gotta go with Schuening and Manningham in the 3rd. Josh Johnson in the 4th. After that I want some guys that can play special teams and Jacob Hester for fullback. I really had my fingers crossed that Henne wouls have made it out of the 2nd. I absolutely LOVED the 1st two picks though.
 -
They do. Only after they go through the learning curve. I don't care for us being a farm system for inexperienced coaches.
 -
Something you wrote triggered some thoughts. It boggles my mind to watch us not develop recievers on this team. I think we simply have poor position coaches. Paying out money to the salary cap is one thing, paying good coaches is another. It leads me to believe the McCaskeys still have a silent hand in money matters, as we still have a low paid staff, aside from Lovie. It would be bad PR if we were 15mil under the cap as the season starts. If you underpay unproven position coaches you get to throw a few more manhole covers into the family coffers and no-one notices.
 -
Sounds about right. I would probably demand a 1st and two 3rds for Harris. Agreed on peak value. What I'm afraid of here, is that everyone else knows that too. But you know some teams would be drooling toinstantly lead the league in field position. All in all, you can't do this. The future would possibly be bright, but you destroy the now. Could you imagine the nightmare of re-signing this draft class 4-5 years down the road. My God!, this board would be smokin!!
 -
I was going to answer my own question, but you did it for me. Agreed on all accounts. No Ocho Stinko!
 -
With measurables like that and a high football IQ, you would think he won't make it past the 1st round. I also read NFL.com's analysis and it said similar things about him. Then you think he's to good to be true. Then you read that he doesn't change direction well, doesn't time his leaps well, has great clock speed, but not football speed. It's really strange that people have tremendous given talent, but between the ears is killing them. I want the football player. Of the two, I'd take the Zbikowski. He seems like a gamer.
 -
Love the 1st pick, would like Henne, Forte and Rachal with the next three. Overall, I woul not be displeased with Kipers mock. Just would like a higher choice at OG.
 -
Would you trade Hester for both of Dallas #1's? Would you trade Hester for Chad Johnson? Is it blasphemy to talk of dealing Hester?
 -
This is a mind racking question that is impossible to nail. It's kinda like the "Do we draft for need or best availible talent question." IMO - solid is great, which would be the high floor. And high talent is great, which is your ceiling. What I think our team lacks is old fashioned football players. Some people call them gamers. They just show up and find a way to get the job done. Is a healthy Mike Brown a high floor or high ceiling guy? Or is he just a gamer? I want guys that have the talent to play the game, but most of all, I want instinct and passion. Most people say Mike Brown is slow, so he would be a high floor guy in some eyes. But, isn't his impact to the team high ceiling? Slow Mike Brown beats fast Daniel Manning to the spot every time!! The above is why I am not a fan of Lovie. He is a fan of football players in shorts. Who has more talent Rex or Kyle? This is why I like Orton over Rex. Orton is a gamer, Rex is a practice fluff girl, jacking you off before the game starts. I want football players.

I agree with YOUR opinion regarding the rookies and their potential involvement. However, our staff’s track record does not reflect an inclination to do so. Also, would love to see Jacob Hester on the roster. With the amount of late picks we have, there is no reason why he should not chosen with one of our 5th’s. I think Babich was as lost as the people he reported to. No doubt he improves this year - IMO.

This is a building year. I'm not sure if we can quite call it a "re-build" based on what our moves have been. Our moves have indicated, we are happy with where we are are on defense and content with what we have left on special teams. In a re-build year, we may have seen a sign and trade with Alex Brown. We would have seen Arch and M. Brown cut. We would not have seen Rex and Kyle BOTH back. (just one) Therefore, this is what I see happening on draft day. I see us drafting players that are able to provide depth, with the potential to become solid long term contributors. Say we draft OT, QB, RB and OG with our 1st four picks. I would say only the 1st round OT has a chance to start, with the RB getting PT as the year goes on. All = building. The short term benefits of this off-season will be minimal. Get ready for a long season of hoping the Defense and Hester can provide enough magic for us to be competitive. IMO - until we get the OL fixed and find a franchise QB, we will not contend for anything. Our defense can only have a strong identity/ as long as our offense can control the clock. (which it can not or will not) Prediction with no major Defensive injuries: 9-7 wildcard. Full season of Mike Brown 10-6 Prediction with major Defensive injuries: 6-10 #8 pick in the draft.

Thought I'd throw this out there. It really struck an important tone in the importance of picking OL. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...,7056029.column

Bravo! It said nothing of increased size, strength, skill or ability to compete. That article was complete PR bullshit, with all the substance of a "popcorn fart".

Nice! Thanks AZ54, that was a nice breakdown of the backs. There is only one type of back I’d like to see drafted. Power 1st with speed a close 2nd. To be a good playoff/cold weather back you need to be able to take that 1st shot and break it off. I just want them to move the chains, eat the clock and break off an occasional. That is what they drafted Benson for and I still think he has a chance to be that guy. Problem is, the odds dictate he be challenged. If we go RB in the 2nd or early 3rd, it has to be Forte. No way Stewart lasts that long. The dark arts are in effect!

Wouldn't a drunk hooker with braces also snag Johnson? Sorry, couldn't resist. I'll go back to my room now.

I like that you started the post with factoids from the previous season, as it does tie into the madness. The D was upcoming and nasty - I thought it was a great move to add talent to a strength, as the depth was not great and you want it to remain a strength. The pick of D Manning was a bad one and we are still paying for it. I liked the trade down and THEY sold me on the pick as I truly never heard of Daniel Manning before the draft. Dusty and Anderson, I thought to be great picks and still do. The O was in development. The OL was solid, Rex was still future Favre, Cedric was in waiting, Berrian was rising, Moose was still decent, Bradley had promise. Sooo, they thought they pretty much had a red-shirt offense in the wings. With all that being said, I think you can say the staffs' equation was A+B=C. The Bears drafted for zero needs and all potential. That truly is where you want to be as a franchise. My thoughts were and still are, that it was a great plan in theory. And we could have a few special players out of it. It's just unfortunate that JA and Lovie are not fortune tellers or good judges of offensive talent. My answer is C

Polian is the best and has been for over a decade. He will retire a Colt unless Irsay runs out of money. He could have listened to the experts and drafted Ryan Leaf instead of Manning. He also drafted Edgerrin James when the experts said Ricky Williams. He also was panned for drafting Marvin Harrison, who was deemed by some too small to ever be significant. (In a draft with Moose, Keyshawn, T.O.,Toomer, Moulds and Terry Glenn) And the, alleged, monster reach of Dwight Freeney. When he needs something, he simply picks the best. Oh yeah, Bob Sanders was drafted too high as well.(Too short)
 -
I'd do the same thing if was him. $$$$$ Left tackles, QB's and shutdown corners make all the money and are the hardest commodities to find. Great work from his agent. I like this line of thinking only if we draft a tackle as well. Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back. Trust me, I'll remember if turns out to be a Matt Jones and you'll get re-blasted just for fun. Kiper had him at #5 which I think is a pipe dream from a blow hard, but Kirwan had him around #9 and his opinion I do respect. He is climbing some boards and staying around #22 in others, but I still question the basis of his rise. Was he that good when he moved out to tackle or was he raw but showed promise? Why, all of the sudden are people falling in love with his OT skills playing only two games? For now, I still take Clady or Williams over Albert.
