Which Rookie QB should we draft to replace Fields?
Mongo3451 replied to BearFan PHX's topic in Bearstalk
If I knew I could trade the number one and keep number two, I would line to get Drake Maye here. I've been touting him for months. The Trubisky/Jones analogy is terrible, due to him having superior traits to both of those combined. Try Josh Allen and Justin Herbert for comps. Dude has a cannon and is athletic. -
It truly doesn't matter how good of an NFL player they were. The fact that they made the NFL shows they were elite, on the scale of normal football players. What they say matters, IF. That's IF they have done their homework. These guys are looking at the whole league. They usually aren't fully in tune with the whole picture. They don't know what route tree the was called. Nor do they know if someone ran the wrong route. They don't know the progression order that was determined in practice. They don't know what blitz pickup or hot read was called. If like to see a full breakdown from Aikman or Warner. They have the cred to tell the truth, without being football political. (Or a former OC)

With this, you are making the same argument we've been making for Cutler, Trubisky and Fields for years. Bryce Young had shit for talent around him. When your go-to guy was cut from another mediocre team, you have major talent issues. Unless Young failed to do his film study or was a bad teammate, you absolutely cannot compare him to anyone yet. If we draft a QB this year, he will be entering a five star hotel, with a made bed and Swiss chocolate on the pillow. Bryce Young got thrown in a Motel 6 with bedbugs. Looking back at Aikman, he got murdered his first year in the league, but the foundation was firmly being laid. Dallas did it right. They may had won 5 more Superbowls if Jerry's ego didn't get in the way. We ruined Justin. Time to move on.

I believe Zinter will go later than four. Probably sixth round. Damaged goods are a luxury.

It's funny, all my buddies are asking if the Bears are gonna choke on Justin until we screw up a golden opportunity. I have a buddy(actually works for my wife) that used to play WR for Spurrier. He's been on me for supporting Justin the last two seasons. He never says too much, but I pinned him down on it. He says, 'he said ain't getting me the ball right". What? I'm like, why? "Too late in my route". That's why Drake Maye is my guy.

When I played, the coach would circle a player on the chalkboard and tell us, "he needs to go"! This is from an old school coach that played defensive tackle at Penn State and was drafted by the Baltimore Colts in the late fifties. That being said, he never asked us to hurt anyone. He always demanded that we concentrate on destroying our opponents will to play. He always picked their teams' star. Good athletes don't want to injure. They want to hurt! Huge difference. That's why the Forest Gregg Packers will always be hated. They were coached dirty.

Is there a Rooney rule with assistants?

I got my Combine pass today. If anyone is interested, you have to download the NFL One Pass app. Instructions are easy.

I prefer one of the top three as well. I would eliminate anyone that has not called plays in game.

At some point, we have to really look at the fact, Justin is going to want to get paid. Danny Dimes got 40 a year. Is Justin worth the 50, he's going to expect? Can our team survive it?

I'm not trolling you, but no. Not true.
-
He was busy scheming Mooney as a tush push blocker.
-
That's kinda rough

A lot of that stuff he said in his interview with Holly Rowe. Can't wait to see the whole dive into him to so we can get to the truth.
-
He can't throw the slant because of his slow throwing motion. He either gets his guy killed or throws the ball into a defenders helmet. Justin can't process fast enough. TD 1 happens because the defense does not have a loaded box or SPY. Fails with Justin. It's just numbers plus geometry.

I stopped watching that idiot when he gave Wright praise for performing a great reach block, when the DT obviously bit on a read option fake. That being said, Wright is gonna be that dude. The blogger is just trying to make his nut, getting follows by parroting sentiment from guys like Baldy.

I wasn't necessarily doing an endorsement of Bagent over Fields. It was an endorsement of the guy that gets rid of the ball. When you have Thayer yelling in the mic to throw it, that means something. You've seen the receivers running un-checked, while he's looking at them, and he doesn't pull the trigger. I'm not satisfied with the rate of improvement. Let's talk about tailoring an offense for Justin. You can't do it! He can't hit the slant. He almost never reads the read option correctly. Since he can't do that, you can't run the screen game. It also affects your running game because there is always an extra man in the box. Those are all staples of the running quarterback. Scream for the rollout everybody! Now, we've taken half the field out of the play. Who ya gonna burn when the safetys' job got exponentially easier? Don't forget the SPY that's in the box. His job got easier too. The key to everyone's thinking in tailoring an offense is just a phalicy. Why does it no longer work for Hurts, when he has weapons and a great OL? Why does it work for Lamar? He throws the slant and is great at the read option. They write songs about them "Fat Bottom Girls". I love me some badonkadonk!

John Doe is getting laid, while Jim Doe is getting laid out, because he couldn't pull the trigger. It's obvious and sad...

This is why I can't wait for the real dude's to start getting into the deep analysis. Nobody was talking about Young, Stroud or anyone else being generational last year. This year, they talked about the big two, but there are three other dudes that entered the equation. This years QB class is way more heralded than last year's. From my eye test, Caleb Williams has a ridiculous skillset. He's great moving in and out of the pocket and can throw an absolute laser from any angle at any time. Williams release is so fast, defenses cannot react. Y'all remember Rodgers throwing a sideline pass so quickly that nobody could stop it? That's that dude. He can also throw the slant on the same manner. Drake Maye is prototypical. 6'5, 230, quick release and he's an all around athlete. He's considered a more athletic Justin Herbert. I'm going to try to go to the combine so I can get up close and personal.

You keep doing this. Mahomes and Jackson are nothing alike. We want Fields to be more like Mahomes. Mahomes is great because he can win from the pocket, the off platform throws and occasionally with his legs. In case of emergency, RUN! Jackson is one of one, who is going to win his second MVP. I'll lay odds he doesn't go to the Superbowl, because defenses will take the run away from him. DB's are just more willing to hit in the post season. If I'm wrong, I'll eat it. Been wrong before.
-
That's not true. Love was highly touted and fell just like Rodgers did. We traded up for Justin, who also fell. I'll call that even. You are correct on time of grooming and OL. Both Dallas and us couldn't get to him. I feel bad for Justin, just as I did Trubisky. (But they are ruined by too many hits) They deserved better up front. Ryan Pace is the worst GM ever.
-
Justin Fields will never beat Jordan Love. He is everything we want Justin to be. 2024 draft must be for Williams or Maye.

Funny, I've been thinking the same about Bowers. Four years ago, I did a gap analysis for fantasy football. What I found was pretty cool. I ended drafting Travis Kelce early in the second round. What followed was pure ridicule for drafting a TE that high. He didn't score like a top WR or RB. But my thought was the gap between him and the other TE's. Travis was drafted with the 12th pick of the first round of our draft this year. (By my primary ridiculer) Anyway, Bowers is that rare TE, at a higher level, of rare, than MHJ. Both would be great, but Bowers would probably have a greater impact for us. (Justin or not)
-
Stroud is legit. He also came into a perfect situation. Great OL, deep WR room, super fast TE and good D. That took him from legit to superstar in the making. The stat he shares alone with Montana and Brady is ridiculous and they were vets when they accomplished it.

Y'all know I call David Montgomery jump cut. But, what do we call Isaiah Pacheco? This dude has more movement than a Dave Chappelle crackhead skit. Seriously, this dude does the entire Billy Blanks workout in five yards...?
