I think what Morgan, Waldren and Flus are doing is asking the OL to be too precise. There was play when Davis pulled and didn't hit the guy coming through and because it wasn't his guy. Natural football days hit the guy, because he's going to be a problem. Then, he goes to the second level and doesn't hit a guy, because his guy wasn't there. There was also a play where the center was helping Davis, but helped too much and a guy slid through. It's time for them to stay in their area of operation and hit whatever comes in it and no more. Trust in the guy next to them is key. Little shoves are sometimes all that is needed instead of moving too far. The old rule of working inside out should cure a lot.

Am I the only one that didn't think this team was ready to compete to win the division? We are not there yet. This team is still learning how to compete to win. To exacerbate our feelings we have a weak link to talk about. We ain't that bad yet.

If I were a GM I would definitely draft the trenches until I had both fronts solidified. The only way to accomplish that would be if ownership bought into three years of growth before any expectation playoffs. Poles gambled and lost. I'm sure he thought the OL was good, since we were 4 centers away from Sam Mustipher. It's crazy to think that Sam outperformed them all to date. Trading for Keenan was a luxury, stating that we are ready. Drafting a fourth round punter doubled down on that thought. The 24 mil we are paying Allen would buy two very solid starting IOL easily. I would much rather have that than an oft injured aging WR. Bryce Young and Justin Fields are examples of players that were thrown to slaughter because of that neglect. Nate Davis is a coach killer. You absolutely can not get continuity if your starter doesn't practice. A lot of the center's poor play can be attributed to trust and familiarity, or the lack thereof. Davis should be out of the league next year. It all starts up front and I've argued continuity for years. They got a wakeup call. If health remains ok, we'll get better.

You have lost your mind if you think Bagent wouldn't be on the red-eye for a first rounder.

Tough call. I'd probably ask for a first, since it's the QB position. Bagent would be perfect for that system. Getting him as an UDFA has the rest of the league kicking themselves.

I've been feeling the same. We match well with them. Caleb has game speed in his brain now and the OL should have that "backs against the wall" feeling. Their collective fight should be better. I didn't bet us to win, but took the points.

Here's my week one assessment with the good bad and ugly. Good: Defense and Special Teams get the star award for the day. DJ Moore made some plays and believe it or not Caleb. Caleb didn't turn it over and managed the huddle well. He also looked like he played with poise. I believe he found out what real game speed is and will adjust accordingly this week. I don't expect the terrible overthrows and terrible footwork going forward. He's 1-0 Bad: Tevin Jenkins and Keenan Allen. For being in a contract year, Jenkins didn't look like he wants paid. He gave up a few pressures. Waldron was bad as well. Keenan simply has to catch a touchdown pass. Where was the run game? The run game was supposed to be a staple and the key to helping Caleb ease into his first game. Poles, you gave us this IOL... Ugly: Velus. Nuff said. Shelton, your weight lists you at 285 and you played light in the ass. I haven't seen a center get ran over as much since, oh, last year's Bears centers. Nate Davis if you care about your teammates, please retire so Poles can use the money, you are stealing, on a player that gives a shit. To summarize the game for me, it was all love and kumbaya from training camp in the first half. Once they figured out it was a big boys game, they pulled their pants up and started getting after it. Caleb now knows that the real game is faster than he thought it was going to be. I'm certain he will adjust his timeline accordingly. Going in to Houston next week, they'll have to come out of the gate a lot sooner.

I don't think 65 could have a worse game with two broken legs. Nate Davis was terrible as well. Caleb kept grinding and I like some of the things I saw. Poles has allowed this team to be vulnerable and it was my fear coming into the season. I'd definitely would trade Keenan Allen for one of the two centers that were the big free agents.

You and I have been on that platform from day one. If you remember my old tag line, "it all starts up front". Yours was something like "a good OL makes average players better, good players great and great players elite". 🍻🍻

I still believe we are on the rise, but Poles is on my shit list for the moment.
