  1. Picking up stunts isn't very difficult if everyone is on the same page. The best two we've had is Jenkins and Jones. It's seems on a weekly basis that someone is late on a switch off. The adjustment becomes more difficult when there is blitzing, but that's not the case here. I'm going to give Whitehair a pass here, due to him entering the game as our highest rated OL. Sometimes that guy on the delay stunt is the running backs responsibility. I forget what quarter it was otherwise I'd look on my DVR.
  2. The dude came in like a bullet, so the head got sacrificed to maintain body positioning.. Jenkins not only stopped him in his tracks, but also turned him. Very difficult.
  3. Leatherwood has a fatal flaw that he must fix or his career is done. When he gave those 2 quick sacks, the exact mistake happened. Pre contact his positioning was good. His next move should have been a strong punch, directly followed by a one foot step to the right. At that point, he should lock on and ride him him out. His failure started with the punch, it was weak and failed to slow the defender down. When you follow that without sliding your feet, your QB is done for quickly. He is different from Borom because he actually read it well. Even if he punches and slides, he can still be beaten with a bull rush, but not so quickly. Clean it up kid!
  4. That was terrible. However, the coaches should have never put him on that position in the first place. The special teams coach should have made that call for him. The side wind was terrible down there, so it was the correct call. Just should never put the player in that position.
  5. Looks like he got his first good stinger. The burning pain and numbness scare the crap outta you. BTW-that was an all pro block he put on that guy.
  6. We were bereft of talent at the WR position. Poles knew we would be a running team this year, so he drafted a guy that was compared to Deebo on size and speed hoping to get a weapon. So far, I've not seen much. Where Deebo seems to play faster than he looks, Velus does not look fast, agile out strong with the ball in his hands. He was begging for a PI call and want within 5 yards of the ball. You gotta fight toward the ball to get that call. This was all while the DB had him blanketed at full speed. He's going to have to man up.
  7. Our WR's are mostly retreads. Not good. It's rare that a change of venue brings positive results.
  8. It's not coaching. It's lack of talent, Justin and OL. That's why if there's a premium reciever in the draft, we must get him.
  9. The big stinker about the SOS thing is that any team we tie with, at the end of the season, gets to pick ahead of us.
  10. Somewhere along the way Thomas became a headcase. He most assuredly will get cut. We may be able to get Olave from them if we help them move up for a QB. Out of the others, I'd take Godwin or Woods, but wouldn't give anything substantial for them.
  11. Our greatest conversation for a long time has been how do we get better. We've been having it for 15 years and running. I'd like to take a slightly different approach and ask, what is best for 2024? We already know what the needs are, but where should the sense of urgency be applied for 2024? The reason I'm choosing this year is because I don't think we'll be ready next year. So for this off-season, I'm identifying our top draft need as WR. Is it the weakest unit on the team? No, but it's close. WR's generally take time to transition to the NFL unless they have elite traits, so drafting one now with those traits will be nasty in year two. There is also good reason to choose OL and DL. Those arguments are blatantly obvious. With an OL, elite talent is great, but not as important as experience and scheme. So, by adding a couple of above average pieces the OL can become good. As for DL, it's going to take a couple of years to acquire enough talent to make it a strength. Since, DL players develop faster than WR's, is another reason to get that guy at WR. The highest WR I'm seeing is at 9. If we pass on DL at 2 or 3, we can trade back and get our guy if we like him. Plus, the extra high pick would be nice to help fill out the roster with solid draft choices. Give me hell...???
  12. There is a difference between rebuilding and tanking. Tanking is a dirty deed, while rebuilding is the honorable way. You never want your players thinking there is an alternative goal to winning. Never. Karma is real and it's a bitch. I love what is ahead of us...
  13. To simplify things; any team that ties with us will draft ahead of us due to strength of schedule.
  14. I'm not sold on them being generational talents. When I think of generational, it's a guy like Miles Garrett or Joey Bosa. These defensive linemen get hurt at a very high rate, so if there is a shadow of a doubt whether they are elite, I gotta trade and get more. I'll do more homework on them. It would be better for our draft and/or trade value if they have it.
  15. You are correct in that pro bowl players make it commensurate to their draft position. They key you are missing is the volume destroys that cushion and surpasses. This team currently needs, at least, 8 upgrades at starting positions to become a playoff team. Those first rounders can be signed elsewhere too. Thing is, that statistic is to shine light that these players were resigned/extended because their respective teams wanted them. At this point in building this team, I'll take 120% over 40%. That may change the following year, but not this. My pipe dream still remains, that we trade with the Colts. After that, we can parlay as the draft unfolds.
  16. I read the article's and left overwhelmed with statistical information. So, I concentrated on our situation and focused on the early rounds. Since a first round pick has a 40% chance to be re-signed and a second rounder is 30%, I'm doing the math. Our current pick is worth 2600. That is worth 4 seconds and 2 thirds. Since 2nds re-sign at a 30% rate, I'm seeing 120% + the 3rds value vs 40% of the first. If there is a way to parlay the #2 into four 2nds and two 3rds, I gotta take it. That would give us five 2nd, three 3rd, two 4th, three 5th and two 6th. Instant depth! That is 15 picks. I don't like the idea of drafting that many, but twelve sounds good. Poles could move three of the picks to the following year to keep the pick coffers full. I would definitely go after Payne. The trade scenario, above, also doesn't take Buckner out of the equation. With our 12 picks, I would draft 3 DL, 2 WR, 2 OL, 1 TE, 1 LB, 1 RB and 2 DB. (All using BPA approach) Next year is not the Superbowl window anyway. Next year is about finishing the foundation. I would hate not have a 1st, but the trade bounty calculates to be 3x more successful. Stats aren't my thing, so IMO this is all hypothetical.
  17. Check this out. I'll talk more tomorrow, but this is essentially MoneyBall for football. Three are the parts. I've read the first one from my phone, but need the monitor for the charts. It's a bye week, so game on! https://www.the33rdteam.com/category/breakdowns/the-hidden-reality-of-draft-value-part-1/#:~:text=This is 50% of round, even for the second contract.
  18. Slants and quick outs are dangerous passes for him because of his arm slot and slow release. Batted passes and jumped routes increase dramatically. He spent off season working on it, but it's not there yet. He needs separated receivers over the DL's mitts.
  19. I know you aren't asking me, but I'll take both. And actually would love two early WR's.
  20. I've seen better brakes on a sled. If he can't stop any faster than that, he's not an NFL caliber reciever. That is a bread and butter route for any player that works the outside.
  21. I call him a unicorn. There's nothing like him, especially when passing comes to fruition. Buffalo had and still has a far superior OL. Plus, Allen broke out when they went out and got him Stephon Diggs. Fields still needs that guy. It is imperative they do their diligence to get the perfect WR for Fields.
  22. In looking looking at Whitehair's contact, I can't decide on whether it would be good or bad to cut him. He's due 12, 12 and 1 mil for the next three seasons, so he's not terribly expensive, and his cap hits are big. I guess it comes down to how much they value continuity and what they think of his performance.
