  1. Of course Cutler wants the Bears to pick up his friend, his former teammate, and another WR. He wants to win, but at the same time he wants to put up individual stats. Why? Because it helps him get bigger, better contracts. This is not rocket science.

  2. Tell that to Jason....lol

And it would still be a bad series of moves to get to that. Marshall, Hill/Wright, Bennett, Royal means two FAs and a high draft pick. You guys do realize the Bears have about 40 or so other positions to address, right? I'd love having that stable of WRs too, but it doesn't make sense. Essentially you'd be throwing away Knox, Hester, and Sanzenbacher. The latter I understand, but until the Bears unequivocally know Knox is out, then it is incredibly stupid for an organization to invest that much into one position. Oh, and don't forget that also means you're putting Hester at the #5 or #6 WR. That's probably not very smart either considering how explosive he is. He was on pace for another decent season before the offense went to hell.

    Again, it's not smart.

  3. How are you defining the slot/outside guys? I always thought of a slot guy as more of a possession, over the middle kind of guy, and I think I put Bennett in that role, while the "outside guy" in the 2 spot is a nice deep threat, which if they're healthy Hester and Knox do sorta fill that role.

With Weems on board I'm not sure if they count that role as filled or not. He's only been a 10 catch a year guy with the Falcons but the Bears might want to expand his role there as well. If they think he's just a 10 catch a year gimmick guy, then the Bears could still use an additional WR, but it's not a giant priority now...a 2nd-3rd round priority perhaps. TE and the defensive spots are moving up the priority list now.

We're agreeing more and more lately.

With BM as the sure #1, Hester works perfectly as the inside short slant guy, Knox is great as the deep threat, and Bennett is a very good possession guy.

  4. I understand what you are saying but tell me why we didnt winanything last year or this year passing game flaws (and backup QB)......we have the defense and the running game as you well know. But our neglect of a good WR or two over the years has always cost us. Now that you mention the Packers and the Colts and even the Saints neither teams has a team of all pros but......... did they not get where they are now with bad WR'S and a weak passing game????? But you have to focus on what you need to make your team good if not great. Looks at the years that Denver had a great line. hell every back they brought in ran for 1000 yards, now that they have a sorry line what happened 759 tops QB leading rusher.......lol. Now I'm sure you have watched the Bears over the years with a good defense and can't even score in the red zone or better yet convert on third down because our WR's can't catch.......yes you have seen it many times. but with better WR's comes better results.

If that's your take on why the Bears offense wasn't good, and why the Bears didn't win anything last year, then you're not watching the entire field, and you're certainly not watching all positions.

Just look at the play Cutler was injured on. Pressure up the middle, LG blown up, C has to provide support, quick throw, Knox falls down, INT. When situations arise like that, Cutler needs a go to guy. The Bears got him. There's a reason you don't ever hear anyone say "go to guys." At the same time, other positions are necessary, and if given more time and he might not have to make that throw.

  5. Oh eating crow now huh........I know why the Bears signed him and I stated that but the fact remains the same ....they did just get two WR during the FA period and may still indeed draft either Floyd or Hill. So now Komar and Sanazenbacher may not be one the team much longer after camp.

Dude, you're delusional. I'm not eating crow. If they sign a midget and call him a WR, that doesn't mean it's the same as the fantasy football stuff you want. What you were talking about was a #1 (BM), #1A (L. Robinson), and draft a #1 (Floyd). It's stupid. Right now the Bears have a depth chart that begins with Brandon Marshall, fits in Bennett at #2 or #3, lets Knox/Hester put in word after that, and has room for a ST guy like Weems. Maybe Sanz. But it is most certainly not the same as what you were talking about. Signing Weems is the equivalent of me leaving a tip at a restaurant. Signing one of the others is similar to buying another meal even though you've just eaten (BM).

It's time to focus on other positions. WR should be done until the draft.

  6. Minnesota gave Carlson 5 years and $5m per. Wow. That's ridiculous for a guy who didn't even play last year due to a serious injury.

Yep. Ridiculous. It makes no sense to sign a guy who is only semi-productive, is coming off of an injury, and doesn't exactly strike fear in any opposing defense. Guys like Carlson can be had in the 5th round.

  7. Not sure I understand this. We've got more pressing needs than to keep spinning our wheels with the backup RB's.

It does seem semi-pointless. Several other positions are needed before backup running back. Hell, that may be one of the very last positions of need.

  8. I say no. I guess it depends on the suspension. Certainly not if it's just a couple game. If it's longer, maybe I take a look at a 1-year deal for a veteran guy (Hines Ward?) to fill in, but it certainly doesn't push me to go WR at 19, unless your staff determines that's the best player available.

    Exactly.

  9. Enough of this fantasy football huh thats your take????? Well picture this if you would...Knox is hurt(might not play) R. Williams is gone Hurd cut so that leave who as your WR's before Marshall??? Max Komar, Dane Sanzenbacher. Hester and Bennett. Now can you get a title with those names? Heck NO!!! So you can not play fantasy with your team and get leftovers or think outside the Box like the 49ers who signed Moss when they have three good WR already and went to the playoffs. Just for the record go look at the WR'S the Packers (15-1) put on the field last year they have four stars(Driver,Jones,Jennings,Nelson) and a TE and then drafted Cobb!! ANd you know the PAckers have a great running back like Forte...........not!!! So you saying to me that they Bears should not give our strongg armed QB a chance to win in the passing game by adding WR's is like giving Forte the ball with no blockers, he can make a few miss but not all. Sure our WR'S can gain a few yards but......... So we have Marshall, Bennett, Hester, Knox (maybe) drafting Floyd/Hill (for the future) and signing Robinson would not make our team better? Now a never said that we should ignore the defense and the other holes we have at LT, but the passing game wont work without the WR's. They Colts used to be the team with Manning because of the weapons he had to throw to, Brady, Farve, all the good QB had weapons at the WR position not scrubs.

What I'm saying is, they have already made a big move for WR. They also have a few pieces at WR. They still aren't a collection of all pros at WR. But at the same time, attention is required elsewhere. To go out and grab another big name FA WR is a bad move, and more in line with fantasy football than what a team trying to win should actually do. You know, because most fantasy leagues don't have to worry about signing individual talent on defenses, and no fantasy league allows you to draft an offensive lineman. What you seem to fail to grasp is that by focusing all that attention on WR, you actually are saying they should ignore the other positions. Two FA (well, now three) AND the first rounder? Too much focus on one position.

Remind me again about why Peyton, in all his greatness, has one ring (against our team)? Oh right, defensive and running game flaws.

Remind me again why the Packers didn't win last year with their collection of WRs? Oh right, horrible defense and running game flaws.

    Having good weapons: Good.

Having good weapons at the expense of the other positions and the salary cap: Bad.

  10. OH JASON????? Why did the Bears just sign another WR can you please tell e that HUH???????? Oh that's right they are playing fantasy football......lol the should have signed Robinson instead they already have Knox(maybe) Bennett and Hester that can catch punts and kickoffs. The real reason they signed THIS guy is the loss of Graham only and to take Hurds spot.

    Gimme a break dude.

SPECIAL TEAMS ACE. The guy got signed as a deep roster WR and a ST standout. Not a starting WR. They are filling the gaps now. Do you honestly not see the difference?! If not, you can't be helped.

  11. I hate to agree with you so much but I always felt LT was the biggest need with Wr a close second. I think we need to sign one more wr in FAgency(Royal met with Redskins and didnt sign) Could he be thinking about the Cutler connection now that Marshall is here? They are bringing in Herrera/OG who started for Minn last year, probably an upgrade over Williams at LG. At 31 I just see him as a stop gap for a draft choice we will make. Also Hayden is a former starter that played well in the cover 2 system that would be a cheap addition. I think they have one more good addition and the rest will be on the cheap.

See, I don't mind agreeing. Anyone who didn't know OL/WR were the top two needs doesn't know a thing about what the Bears did last year (and years before). And once one was/is addressed (it has been), then the other should be the #1 priority. And since Winston is the only legit OT out there, it makes sense for the Bears to give him a look. If they think he can do nothing but RT, and Carimi can't be moved to LT, then it's probably not a great move. If that's the case, then the first round draft pick absolutely has to be a LT (provided one of the four makes it to the Bears). If one doesn't make it to the Bears, then they should go BPA at a position of need.

I would love to see a Madden team out there for the Bears, but that's just not realistic. Investing in a first round WR is fine, provided they didn't just get Marshall. Marshall is the the first rounder. Focus is needed elsewhere.

  12. Yes, they could easily be worse than Webb, and I can say that with no hesitation because the Bears employed a backup tackle last year who was significantly worse than Webb in Omiyale. It is definitely possible to be a lot worse.

The Bears still at least need to add depth at tackle to replace Omiyale...it was pathetic that their backup tackle was so bad their only option was to move one of their young guards out to tackle for 1/2 the season. Putting a RT at LT might be an upgrade over Omiyale, but it might not be the pass blocking upgrade the Bears want.

There were a ton of issues last year with the line setup that would have made it difficult for anyone to succeed in that spot. So no, I can't honestly judge where Webb sits...but I will certainly say that the future of the coaching staff hangs on making that decision correctly.

Bears need to add depth on the OL. You KNOW I don't disagree with that.

A lot of things made it difficult for the OL to succeed last year. Sure, I can buy that.

But at the same time, the OL just sucked on their own, even when not hindered by other considerations. While Winston/Carimi might not be the incredible upgrade the Bears would like to have at LT, going from an F to a C+ (and potentially much better) is a considerable upgrade nonetheless. I'm 200% confident that neither of the guys being discussed (i.e. Winston/Carimi) can be worse than Webb. In fact, I think there are very few OTs in the NFL worse than Webb, and luckily the Bears got rid of one of them in Omifail. Rather than finding depth to replace Omifail, I'd prefer they moved Webb to backup as his replacement and just get Winston or a LT in the first round of the draft this year. Either move makes so much sense it's not even worth saying. It's like saying the sun is hot.

  13. Again, we don't know that...put either of them out on an island in Martz's offense like Webb and we'll see.

No, dude, we know that. Webb was the worst LT in the NFL last year. Even if you don't agree, by any approximation he was one of the bottom two or three. There is no way in hell a first round talent like Carimi (who has been slotted at RT because that's where he best fits, not where he only fits) or a guy like Winston who has produced consistently well in a powerful offense in the NFL over the past few seasons can be worse than Webb. No freaking way. We may not know how well they'll do, but we unequivocally know they won't do worse than Webb.

  14. If we add another WR like Robinson then IMO we should go after other needs. While i would love to get Martin I would even take DeCastro if he is there and put Chris Williams back at LT. Other options for first pick are CB, DE, LB, TE, or even LB to get ready for the future. For the first time in years we are headed toward a draft where we can take best availabe in Rd 1. However expect at least one of these needs to be covered via FA very soon.

Thank you. Enough of this fantasy football, Madden stuff where the Bears trade for and/or sign two FA WRs and still use a first round pick on WR. Enough. It's stupid. It's one or the other. There are other positions on the team, and one position (LT) that is still a greater need than WR (just like it was when Free Agency started).

  15. Nicks aint coming here, but Winston is a possiblity.

You're probably right, but the following still looks pretty decent:

    Winston - Williams - Garza - Louis - Carimi

    Carimi - Williams - Garza - Louis - Winston

As long as Louis keeps progressing (he's the obvious weak spot), that's potentially a solid OL.

  16. The SCORE reported Jason Campbell will cost the Bears 3 million per. Shouldn't the Bears spend that money to keep Cutler upright? Or to give him a TE that can stretch the field?

I agree with you we need a good back-up. But the Bears have so many needs, this is not a luxury we can afford IMO.

I'd prefer they spend in order of need, to be quite honest. 3M is not bad for a solid backup QB, but I'd prefer more spending on the OL so the Bears never get to the #2 QB like they have the past two years. Then the money for #2 can be a little less...or a rookie draft pick with promise can be given time to truly develop.

  17. Career record around .500. Also has a career QB rating of 82. Very very solid player. Not great but he's a really solid backup. Bears would have been in the playoffs if we had him last year.

Bingo. Not great, not bad, good solid backup that would have won one or two of those games, got the Bears in the playoffs, and given Cutler just enough time to come back and deliver.

  18. Wow. Nicks and Winston would be a major coup.

That would allow the Bears complete freedom in the draft because they'd have shored up the primary problems. The following OL (or variation thereof) would be unbelievable:

    Winston - Nicks - Garza - Williams - Carimi

  19.

Even though I love the trade, that article pisses me off because Glazer says the Dolphins fired the first shot of the FA period. Um, sorry, but this is the Bears firing the first shot. Getting an all-star, dominant, game-changing WR who would be drafted in the first round if the future could have been predicted, is much better than two 3rd rounders who may not even crack the starting lineup.

  20. Williams would provide a greater impact. That makes the Bears a top 5 defense immediately. Makes the DTs, CBs, and Safeties better immediately. The Bears don't have to depend on another player to create Mario Williams opportunities.

VJax could still disappoint if the OL can't protect Cutler long enough to throw the ball.
