I hope you're right, but I don't know if his career is as stellar as Sportscenter fellatio would have everyone believe. Some lowlights: -Most INTs in history -Most Fumbles in history -Gave away the sack record to his friend by laying down on the ground -Held the city of Green Bay hostage for multiple years while he toyed with playing another season -Essentially did the same thing to the Jets -Did the same thing, again, to the Vikings -Purposely orchestrated his departure from GB, and a one year stint in NY, just to get back at his team while playing with Minnesota -Admitted abuser of pain pills -Flip-flopped after actual retirement and a tear-filled interview at Soldier Field -Possibly contributed to the early retirement of Barry Sanders, who had to share an MVP with Favre despite running for 2000+ yards -Has thrown more stupid INTs and choke-jobs than any QB who has played in the NFL -Ostensibly cheated on his wife I've thought for many years that Favre is a fake nice guy, one who exudes everything you expect in public, but is actually different from his "aw shucks" persona. Besides, the Jenn Sterger incidents aren't the first like this in Favre's career; it's been well known for some time that he and Chris Berman have swapped fluids.

Yes, because the outstanding performances by Todd Collins (39 years old by the way) over his illustrious career has warranted him various NFL positions. The reason he's not in the NFL is similar to the reason Collins is still in the NFL. Poor evaluation based upon guys who perform well in practice and look good in the locker room, but can't do shit in the game (i.e. the opposite of Garcia). Meanwhile, Garcia has been doubted his entire career because his measureables aren't great. But the dude just keeps producing, just puts up wins. Keep in mind Garcia put up those 2700 yards two years ago in only 12 games for a Tampa Bay offense that had an atrocious assortment of receivers. And he would have EASILY had the celebrated 3000 yard mark if yet another team/coaching staff wasn't giving the position away to a lesser QB (Griese), who just so happened to throw for about 984 yards against the Bears that year. The whole "there is a reason he is not in the NFL" is a weak excuse that doesn't hold water...if it did, Collins would have been out of the NFL some time ago. The league is littered with bad decisions, especially when it comes to QBs for the Bears over the past 10 years.
-
Personally, I'd rather have a very talented QB, a very mobile QB, a proven leader and veteran who nearly threw for 3000 yards two years ago - in less than a 12 full games - than an unknown with minimal talent (Hanie) or a bum (Collins). It can only help the team.
-
The story of his career. Doubt, doubt, doubt. That dude will be better at 60 than Collins has ever been.

Despite agreeing with your first five comments, my experiences were quite different when I was at the game. I thought they got fairly loud when the Panthers came out. And the few times we got loud Bears' chants going, the Panthers fans quickly reacted and overpowered us. They booed Peppers fairly well, which shows they were upset about him leaving. I also had conversations with more than one Panther fan who was polite and intelligent in a football sense. Sadly, I saw a group of drunk 20-somethings who had Bears' shirts on, and they were a complete joke. Luckily they were the minority, and I even managed to get a few fans to sing the Bears fight song (they didn't know it).

Jeff Garcia still wants to be in the NFL. Todd Collins doesn't deserve to be in the NFL. This seems like an amazingly easy decision.
-
I didn't really think they looked as good on rushing plays as the Panthers looked bad. Passing? Still horrible. Collins got absolutely buried on more than one play. If the team risked it and put Cutler in this game, he would have missed multiple subsequent weeks.

Why in the crap were we throwing on the goal line
jason replied to Chitownhustla's topic in Bearstalk
I'm normally a big fan of throwing on 2nd down (play action pass) at the goal line. Here's why: 1st-Run: Fail 2nd-Run: Fail 3rd-It's almost a guarantee that this down will be a pass. By putting in a play action pass on 2nd, there isn't that feeling a coach gets that he has failed the first two downs and doesn't want to do the same thing on the third down. Having said that, I'm actually never an advocate of passing when Collins is at QB. -
I'm just not a big fan of this way of thinking. Put it this way... Sunday: Suppose you only have a dollar to your name. You walk through the park and happen upon a ham sandwich and a bottle of water. Monday: Still no cash, starting to get hungry. Luckily for you, the hot dog vendor hooks you up because he's generous. Tuesday: Broke as usual, but woke up with a growling stomach. Foraged for nuts and berries, and possibly did some dumpster diving. Wednesday: Hungry as hell! So, on Thursday do you think, "Well, despite my limited means, I got food and drink three out of the last four days," or do you get off your ass and get to work? Personally, I'm a big fan of fixing problems and not patting myself on the back with false reassurance.

No doubt, and I bet Jenn Sterger (OMG she is hot) is just another one of those women who take jobs in sports (wow, big surprise that 95% are all beautiful) because they hope to get a millionaire husband.

This guy understands it. Call it placation if you wish, but I think this is an honest understanding that he put too much on them, and it nearly derailed the entire season. Martz takes the blame

Honestly. No mini-Ditka talk. Do the Bears even get close to 20 points? If the Bears manage ten offensive points in total, I'll be surprised. It's up to the D and the ST to get this win, because I don't see Collins producing it.

That's a complete misstatement, and you know it. Go look at the video lowlights; I have. Nine or ten of those interceptions are because WRs/TEs ran the wrong route, fell down, ran into an official, or something else. You can't compare last year to this year. Yes, a taller WR has a better shot at getting a high pass than a shorter DB, but that doesn't mean the odds are good either way. A lob to Olsen is not going to be caught most of the time because he'll have no separation, and as soon as the ball hits his hands it will be blasted away. The reason why the seam pass works in crowded territory is because it's over the MLB's head, and he doesn't see it. That's where the height is a definite advantage, because the QB can throw it just that much more over the top. But a fade route? Really? That is not the solution to the problems. The solution is clearly the OL. But if that doesn't get fixed, then you have the next best solution in your last sentence: "shotgun--3 step drop." The fade route isn't necessary when the routes and drops are quick.

I hope you are speaking about Moss, and not Jackson. Because the original point of this thread was about Jackson, which is pointless. Jackson is not as good as Moss, and wouldn't help the team out enough to mortgage the future (i.e. trade a draft pick).
-
Nobody is doubting your football past. But you just don't throw continuous lob passes to tall receivers when the QB is under duress. One, this creates a situation where a QB is still getting murdered. And, two, just as important, you've now set up a situation where a WR is more likely to be injured. Most of the quick throws to Moss and Fitzgerald aren't just lob passes. But that's because those guys know how to get open better, and more often...and the OLs on their teams actually block consistently. Sorry, dude, but with the Bears of the last three years, it's ALL the OL. Fix that, and the "short" WRs won't have problems.
-
I'm in agreement. 12 sacks do not happen by a fluke. This, and the defensive line's underwhelming performance, just makes a little sicker every time I hear about how awesome Marinelli is at coaching the DL. IF it weren't for the fact that Peppers is from Krypton, the DL would be taking just about as much heat as the OL. Just about.

Same shit different day. The price we pay for being Bears fans.
-
No, I caught that. But apparently you missed when you typed, "I'm doing it from JA's and Lovie's points of view." Um, yeah, no you're not. History suggests otherwise.
-
Agreed. Give Hanie a shot. Hopefully he won't do this...
-
I guess it's about percentage of blame then. I only think he could have gotten rid on a few (i.e. 2 or 3) legitimately. If he had thrown the others away he would have gotten an intentional grounding penalty. Come to think of it, maybe the Giants DL deserved an intentional grounding penalty?
-
Agreed. I actually prefer it in this order: OL, OL, S, OL.
-
Don't lie to yourself, dude. You're doing it from YOUR point of view, with a mix of something else in there. If you were truly doing it from Lovie and JA's point of view you wouldn't have selected multiple OLinemen.

This shouldn't have made me laugh, but it did. I think it'd be a good choice. True, his arm isn't great. And his vision as a QB is borderline cross-eyed. His touch is Vick-esque. But he would help out a lot if called upon when the Bears' management ignores OL again and it results in Juice starting.
