You may be right, but if that's the gameplan, it's passive as hell and will eventually get the Bears beat by a team that doesn't make mistakes (i.e. #5) or doesn't get as many holding penalties called against them (i.e. #6).

Was anyone else surprised by the consistency with which Martz had Cutler go back into deep drops the entire game? It seemed that a change should have been made considering the beating Cutler was taking and the frequency with which the Packers were blitzing, but it never really came like in the Cowboys game. I understand why the run game didn't get more love - especially considering the horrendous run blocking - but I don't get why there weren't more short passes in the flats, a screen or three, and a couple quick slants.

1. I agree with the frustration, but I'd hardly call letting the Packers march up and down the field "working perfectly." 2. I think it's somewhere in between. He wasn't great, but he was easily better than any other DLineman. 3. He had a few boneheaded throws, but overall a good game. I agree with the Cutler+Martz thoughts. 4. Agreed. Soulja Boy needs to be played before every Bears punt return if it gets Hester hyped. 5. I'm also sick of it. The OL can't run block at all. And it wasn't an easy catch for Clark. It was behind him and low. Bad pass by Cutler. 6. Agreed on everything except the Rodgers love. Beast? Yes. Love him? Hell no. 7. Interesting... 8. You had 7 twice.

Yes, even when the Bears win, I usually hate Lovie. That's because most of the time he deserves the hate. Yes, it all comes down to players making plays. And against the Packers the Bears' players made plays. But it sure would be nice to have the complete package. A team with players who make plays as well as coaches who actually coach, instead of just crossing their fingers and hoping for the plays to be made.

You don't? Seems like the most fortunate game I can remember in a long time. The Bears got beat in nearly every aspect of the game, but still won. If that is not luck, then we'll have to call it fortune. PotAto, Potahto.

Yes. I actually think you are wrong. It worked this time, but it doesn't always work. And if you continue to pat yourself on the back when you get lucky, and fail to modify the things that are wrong (i.e. the same things Lovie has ignored for the past 3 or 4 years), then yes, the problems in this type of win DO matter. Having said that, of course, I'd rather be lucky and win than perfect and lose.
-
Yes, giving up nearly 400 yards "worked." But I hate to rely on a late forced fumble for the win. Or a dropped INT on the Packers side of the ball. Or the Packers to have more penalties then they had in any game in the last 50 years. So, I guess it "worked." Listen to the postgame...nearly everyone will acknowledge that the Bears got beat in most aspects of the game but got lucky with a turnover and the penalties.

I'm also happy about this 3-0 start. But don't you think the Bears could have done so much more over the past few years if not for Lovie? I really think they could have done so much better if he wasn't holding them back with A] his weak cover-2 defense and B] his loyalty to braindead offensive coordinators.
-
For once we agree.
-
I'm not upset, but it seems like you'll grasp at anything to support Lovie Smith's zombified approach to coaching. Typed as the Bears get stuffed yet again on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and short.
-
I actually think it does matter. It's that passive attitude that has killed the Bears over the past few years.
-
You're right. My only wish is that we actually could know. We never will, unfortunately.
-
My point is that you tried to turn the bad 4th down call into a positive for the coaching staff. Putting your money in the lottery isn't a smart move, even if you happen to get lucky and win money later on.
-
Yes, pretty damn good. I wonder how much better it could have been if they were aggressive and actually went for the kill.
-
Sorry, but the horrible offensive call didn't do anything on the actual play. The field position is consequential; with that I agree. But trying to give Lovie credit for the punt return which was in spite of his shit 4th down call is crazy.
-
There he is.
-
Hell, if that happens AND Lovie actually kicks it when he should have, it would be a 6 point lead.
-
Who's to say that an aggressive approach wouldn't work? Maybe the Bears' D would have knocked out Rodgers by now if they were actually attacking instead of giving the Packers 4yd completions over and over? I don't want to sit around with fingers crossed and hope to have a chance to win. It's a passive, heartless way to play. I don't really think the Packers are all that superior, and the Bears' D can actually play with them. But we'll never know, because it's the typical bend but don't break garbage.
-
Bears should be up 20-17. But Lovie didn't learn the last time the Bears got stuffed on 4th and 1.
-
Nick Collins is, and always has been, a dirty asswipe. A cheap shot artist. The same kind of guy who hurt McMahon.
-
The contain is just on that play. The slow bleed of the drive is what kills the team.
-
For the record, I HATE the F'ing Cover-2, and the way Lovie runs it. The packers are doing the exact same thing that the Colts did in the Super Bowl. Short passes over and over and over and over...
-
That call on Melton was BS. There was no contact to the helmet that I saw.
-
hahaha...Peppers has the Packers OL shitting their pants.
