  1. I guess the point I'm making is, Martz isn't really adjusting that much - which is stupid - but at least he's trying to install plays that are meant to attack a defense, meant to take advantage of defensive deficiencies. Turner didn't really seem to do that. He just kept shoveling the same shit, over and over, and knew it wasn't meant to really do more than hold on to a lead (if there was one). Nobody denies that Martz needs to change things up (e.g. max protect, 3-step drops, etc.), but I'd say that more screens in this game looked like an attempt at adjustment...just not enough.
  2. I don't agree at all. Ineptitude has degrees. When the offensive line blocks, the Bears have the potential to be a dangerous offense under Martz. Of course, it's up to Martz to ensure that he calls packages with which his team can succeed. With Turner, however, the Bears never really had much of a chance to be a dangerous or successful offense. Turner was the offensive counterpart to Lovie Smith: a man with a scheme that plays not to lose.
  3. Correction: Martz should be embarrassed with the continuous 7-step drops. Tice should be embarrassed with the OL's lack of blocking. Lovie should be embarrassed for never doing a thing to stop the flood waters. And it's Jerry Angelo should be embarrassed with the product he puts on the field. The Bears have 5 offensive linemen that probably couldn't start on any other NFL team.
  4. It sure is an odd coincidence, isn't it? Continually, opposing QBs, scrubs or not, seem to get better against the Bears. They find open WRs against the Bears. They have all day in the pocket against the Bears. Until Lovie Smith leaves and takes the cover-2 with him, the Bears will not do anything spectacular. The Super Bowl year was a fluke in which the players just outperformed what the coaches had them do.
  5. No way in hell I want Turner back.
  6. The passes have been bad, but can you blame the guy? The entire franchise and offense is on his shoulders, and he has the worst OL in NFL history making repeatedly horrible decisions play after play. Sooner or later a person will naturally self-preserve, whether it's because of injury or danger. If someone sprains an ankle, they're going to limp.
  7. This reminds me of when Griese killed the Bears a few years ago. This Cover-2 shit is just not a good defensive scheme if the opponent has a patient QB who is willing to chuck the ball for 7 yards at a time. It's the same thing that happened in the Super Bowl. Eventually, the DBs are naturally going to step in a bit, wanting to stop the quick passes and perpetual first downs. And then what happens? The deep outs and the seam passes are open. This defensive scheme just sucks. I hate its passive nature, and the way it can turn stud players into average players.
  8. Webb might actually be as bad as Omiyale. He's clearly more physically talented than Omifail, but when you're legally blind it's difficult to be an offensive tackle.
  9. That's what infuriates me. The Bears RARELY get to the QB when they blitz, having all their free blitzers get picked up over and over and over. But somehow, when the other teams blitz, they get to Cutler (and previous QBs) OVER AND OVER AND OVER! WTF?! On D: Poor scheme. On O: Poor scheme and shitty OL.

    Let's face it

The guy can't block. The guy can't read a defense. What the hell can he do well?
  11. Things I'd like to see: -Everyone involved with the defense to realize the inherent gaps in the cover-2 are easily exposed when there is no pressure on the QB. -Everyone involved with the offense to realize the flaws of a 7-step drop when this OL is undeniably atrocious, and possibly blind.
  12. I believe in shades of gray, but in my opinion, even with Collins you go for the jugular. I was in Charlotte, and it was readily apparent that A] the team was less aggressive, and B] Collins was horrible.
  13. Agreed again. Training camp was too late, actually a few years too late. This should have been addressed in AT LEAST the last two drafts. Total JA fail...but HEY! We sure did get a ton of quality Defensive Linemen. Right?
  14. I don't mind most of this post, but the bolded part is offensive. There is no way in hell that Omiyale is CURRENTLY even mediocre. He's one of the worst 5 offensive linemen in the entire NFL. If he improves (big if) it will be from wet dog hair, rotten garbage, decomposing body foul to fresh steaming pile of horse manure.
  15. Sadly, you're probably right, because Lovie doesn't have "go for the throat" in his personality. This game will resemble the Panthers game: Bears score early, get a safe lead, put it into neutral, cruise down the hill, hoping the hill (read: defense) gets the car to the destination.
  16. yeah, except for the fact that the Bears will have Frank Freaking Omiyale at the LT!
  17. Typical from this staff. Taking a player and moving him to a position that is foreign. Considering that Williams is a finesse LT, I just don't see how adding him in at OG is a good thing...except for the fact that he has to be better there than Omiyale would be, and that is the reason for the move.
  18. Can't resist adding this in about Forte and the Bears' OL... Detroit - 2.9 ypc Dallas - 2.9 ypc GB - 2.6 ypc NYG - 2.2 ypc CAR - 7.5 ypc Case closed.

    What if?

I had a scary thought today... Green Bay GB is decimated with injuries, currently 3-2, and has the following left: MIA, MIN, NYJ, DAL, MIN, ATL, SF, DET, NE, NYG, CHI That's 8 tough games left, without even counting a dangerous Dallas team, an improving Detroit team, and an underperforming SF team. GB could feasibly finish with 4 or 5 more losses, easily, and finish just on the outside of a wild card birth. Minnesota Sitting at 1-3 with the following left: DAL, GB, NE, ARI, CHI, GB, WAS, NYG, CHI, PHI, DET That's 8 tough games for them as well. And since Fartve isn't having a miracle year like last year, they will probably do worse than GB. Probably 5 or 6 losses, finishing 7-9 or so, out of the playoff race. That leads me to this... Chicago has SEA, WAS, BUF, MIN, MIA, PHI, DET, NE, MIN, NYJ, GB Just like the others, 8 tough games left. But the Bears have already beaten GB, and I think the Bears are just an overall better team right now. The odds are that the Bears will win the division (barring the extraordinary). With that said, does winning the division guarantee Lovie stays?
  20. Exactly. For a guy who is just now in his sixth year, it's very possible for him to have another 8-10 years left in the tank. Considering that you are guaranteed - barring injury - at least 5, it's a much safer bet than gambling on a second rounder, much less a later draft pick. Logan Mankins is well worth a 2nd rounder.
  21. Great link. That was pretty funny, and dead on accurate. Nearly every one of the ESPN hacks is a Brett Farv ass kissing apologist, and the MNF game was pathetic. Farv does something good = OMG! The announcers are breaking out the KY and knee pads. Farv does something bad = Hey, how about those baseball playoffs!? The worst offenders: Madden, Berman, Gruden

    Cutler sees Green

ESPN also reporting that Todd Collins has been demoted to 4th string, despite the fact that the Bears only have 3 QBs.
  23. 1. Logan Mankins - Hell yes. 2. Jeff Garcia - Better than Hanie or Collins 3. Steve Smith - Sure, I guess...but why bring in another WR to a team that has a talented group of young receivers who already don't get the ball spread around enough? 4. Bernard Berrian - As already mentioned, bear shit. Honestly, I don't understand why Steve Smith gets a . I would be barely excited if he were on the team.
  24. Hell, I think Jeff Garcia is my answer to two different problems. I'd rather have Jeff Garcia on the OL than Omiyale. At least Garcia would be smart enough to not get false starts, and would be weak enough that the Tice would never dream of doing anything other than providing a second blocker as his backup (i.e. what Manumaleuna is supposed to be doing, but isn't, even though it is clear Omiyale's family tree includes a three toed sloth about four generations back).
