well you know I agree with everything you said, Im just saying if you have a GREAT QB they are worth the money. I dont think Justin is better than a rookie. And he wont be better than them in 2025 for sure.

And I agree with you that a rookie will serve just as well as what we've got with Fields.

all true, but secondary to the fact that Justin just isnt a very good QB.

Rookie QB with a rookie deal for four years? That's certainly good for other positions on the team. The upcoming season is Fields last before we need to give him and extension, right? Interesting issues for Poles, and I agree that paying Fields big money doesn't fit with his production.

We can say that's just the Bears, but  they have different people running it now, so I don't think it's the same. IMO, I think fans have to have instant success or it's burn it down. I think Poles is smart and want to see how his plan turns out. Not saying he's going to be successful but he's the one they hired. I'm giving him the third year before I jump into the burn it down group. I feel that's fair, rarely does anyone rebuild a franchise in 2 years.

Agreed. Poles seems to have a plan and he sticks to it.

He hasn't said any of that. Some random twitter person said it. The person who said it just made it up. This is a kid who played at OU and USC.  Those are two programs where you are under intense scrutiny. No where has anything ever came out that said anything other than he works his tail off and is a solid lockeroom guy.

But some random on twitter who paid 8 bucks for a verification who has a history of making up everything (its a parody account) says something and now it is all out there.  Bears need to do their diligence everywhere on him, period.

Disagree with you, but you've got a right to your opinion. I've watched him here in So Cal and I believe it all. Strikes me as the same as the Ball family in basketball.

There's no shortage of folks willing to do the same and disregard the all the ethical issues with Harbaugh.  This is just a 2023 list.

    https://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2024/1/1/24017858/michigan-rose-bowl-jim-harbaugh-suspension

There's an anouncer on Fox radio Sundays that played for the Pats and other teams and he contends Harbaugh is a quick fix at the pro level, but after two or three years the players get tired of being trated like college kids and revolt. Says he's heard it from several players from their time with him at SF.

Now that Caleb has declared for the draft, the better he looks in the pre draft process, the bigger haul we can get if we trade the pick. Also think it will have a bigger impression on whether Poles drafts him or not.

Poles is still in the rebuilding process so I don't think it's a given he takes a QB with that pick. Not sure either way he decides is a bad decision, either choice is going to be a positive for the future. I don't have a big ego so if he doesn't do what I want, I'll be okay with it. He's the one that got hired as the GM, they didn't even consider my application.

We are definitely in a great position. If Poles hits a homerun we will be solid for several seasons. If not you can resubmit your application, with a big I told you so attached. LOL

I find it hard to believe someone could write all that and yet not name a single person they wanted to thank.  This reads like a Hallmark card.

He's not giving any names because he's a kid that is really thinking it is all him, his work, his vision, me, me, me. He's thanking himself. Sounds like an entitled prick. But hey, if he brings us several Super Bowls I could swallow my disdain.

If you hire a coach on a four year plan, and they make a ton of unforced errors, you fire them before the plan is over.

If the coach was making good choices, but losing because the roster wasnt there, thats one thing, but when they are making bad choices on their own, there is no reason to keep them.

If Im at a restaurant, and the appetizers are massively undercooked, and the entree is completely undercooked - I dont need to order dessert to know the meal sucked.

Amen. Flus made too many bonehead coaching errors throughout his second season to be patted on the back for "stability".

At best, John Doe got help from his wingmen to get two fat Girl’s’ phone numbers.

The Bears sucked during his 5-game stretch, only won two games, one of which was a squeaker versus the lowly Panthers, and Bagent averaged less than 200yds per game.

I love the story like anyone else, but let’s not get it confused with revisionist history. Bagent sucked. But he did a few things differently than Fields, one of which is getting rid of the ball quickly. That was clearly by design to make up for Bagent’s glaring weaknesses. (Gee, imagine if they game-planned specifically for the things Fields does well.)

Comparing the two with any stat is laughable at best given how much the team had to change just so Bagent could look professional.

Wow, did Bagent piss in your cereal? imDo he showed he is at least a competent backup and perhaps could be developed with the right coach/coordinator. Do I think he's our franchise guy? Of course not, but he showed confidence and moxy for how he came into the league.

    Playoff games so far:

A bunch of teams didn't even show up. Detroit wins on a non-call DPI.

GB put up 48 on DAL in DAL, while the Bears allowed 17 in a crappy game.

Bears beat DET once, should've beaten them twice, DET wins playoff game.

If that same CLE team played the Bears a few weeks back, the Bears win by 20+ as well.

Curious to see what the games look like today, snow in BUF and PHI @ TB.

Probably rain in Tampa. And yes, ifs and buts....

We did the brave stuff we needed to do, now is not the time to take our foot off of the gas pedal, or we are going to go back to being trapped at 6 to 9 wins every year like we have been for decades.

Filling out the 2nd WR is important, but QB and head coach are probably the two most important positions, and looking for continuity there from last year is a mistake in my view. I hope Im wrong.

I agree that Poles now needs to keep his foot on the gas. Right now I'm leaning to trading the pick, stick with Fields and be set for several drafts to come. But only after they've checked out all the QB candidates and concluded there's not one that is a must have. And yep, I guess right now I want my cake and eat it too. LOL

And Lucky isnt saying the players, hes saying the play calling on defense. Even Brisker criticized it after the game. And this is the same playcaller that lost THREE games in historic ways by being too safe and too soft and blowing what should have been historically insurmountable leads.

It is absolutely fair to say that Poles has built an excellent defensive roster while simultaneously criticizing Eberflus' scheme and playcalling. Those things are not mutually exclusive, and pointing to the success of one doesnt mean the other isnt substandard.

And I am praying that Flus never forgets those FUBARS and corrects it.  And Poles idea of "consistency" might not be something to desire with Flus.

WRITE YOUR STATE AND FEDERAL CONGRESSMAN

Taxpayers are paying billions for the renovations and construction of NFL stadiums.

    https://www.cnbc.com/2022/12/22/taxpayers-are-paying-billions-for-nfl-stadiums-heres-how.html

The reason cities end up paying for stadiums begins with the issuance of tax-exempt bonds from state and local governments that the federal government has signed off on for decades.

Top 10 biggest federal subsidies for pro stadiums

    https://www.brookings.edu/articles/top-10-biggest-federal-subsidies-for-pro-stadiums-hint-the-yankees-are-1/

In 1986, Congress tried to fix the problem and reduce or eliminate federal subsidies for stadiums. But the convoluted law, which you can read more about here, backfired, and Congress ended up unintentionally encouraging the practice.

The process works like this: When a stadium is being built, a city can sell municipal bonds to help pay for its construction, like cities often do with public works projects. But if those bonds are issued as tax-exempt bonds (meaning that the interest payments to the bond holders are not counted as taxable income), the federal government loses a large chunk of revenue that it would have collected had the interest payments been taxable. And because this is lost federal revenue, the cost is footed by all taxpayers. On top of that, wealthy citizens who hold the bonds receive an implicit tax benefit due to their relatively high marginal tax rates, costing the federal government even more revenue.

So I should grab some of these bonds to "support the team"? LOL

next up - does Matt Eberflus talk in his sleep and is his next door neighbor a Packer's fan lol

He probably mumbles something about we've turned it around, we won the last game, now we're 1 and 4. LOL

right the question is in interviews did he gain any insight to Washington's views on the top QBs, and did he spill any of our info to them.

I dont think its a big deal at all, but we have nothing else to talk about so we're dissecting that LOL

    Got it.

for sure. there's so much smoke though, and our analysis hasnt been completed yet, so Cunningham may like a player we dont eventually choose at #1, or not like a guy who we eventually do take at #1. And Washington would still be nervous we might take the guy they want, so that they could be in the trading mix with us to jump up and get him. And that scenario only matters if no one else is interested in #1 and we are trading out of it. If anyone else wants #1 for any player, Washington has to fear that too. And if we dont trade out we take whoever we want to. We are the 800 pound gorilla in the room this year. :)

So it's not much of a risk. On the other hand, knowing who Washington likes might help us feel comfortable to trade down with them first to #2, but of course they havent completed their analysis yet either. and on and on the wheel spins!

Its all spy stuff now, and everything and its opposite could be true lol

Washington didn't take him. He's now on to the Chargers for an interview.

Most so called experts said that Young was the prize in the draft last year, so what would be the conversation if Poles took Young? I suspect not good. Stroud stood out but no one expected that . Hindsight is a great view when you look for criticism.

Clearly Poles thinks building a strong roster is critical for the success of any QB. In the second year we would be sitting where Carolina is right now if we took Young. If his evaluation of Williams shows some character flaws he may be trying to still upgrade the roster with a trade back. Poles took the job with a plan , yet so many people criticize him because he doesn't do what they think he should do. If he takes Williams and he fails , the same people criticising him now will be hammering him for taking the wrong QB. If Fields gets traded and flourish, he will get hammered . He doesn't win anyway he turns.

Agree 100%. And I thought those questions about Stroud were useless. Hindsight is something no one has. Poles, and Warren, kept coming back to stability and the plan. I am trusting him on this. Of course, they made it clear next year needs to show much more, so I see that as Flus has got to coach or hit the road.

yeah and it's not even about yesterdays loss. I always thought it was foolish to keep thinking the decision would be about the last game. I think that came from people who kept hoping they would turn it around, and just ran out of games.

The thing is, in the NFL, you dont need to be bad to be fired. Simply average is good enough to get you fired. Youre looking for people, especially at QB and coach, who are difference makers. You dont survive in spite of them, you win because of them. I didnt see anything from either Flus or Fields that told me they were clear difference makers.

I dont know why we want to hold on to either of them. The best argument for keeping Fields is the draft pick haul of trading down the #1 pick. Or a set of excuses that it wasnt his fault. No one can make the argument that Fields was actually a positive difference maker himself.

Same with Eberflus. It was the growth of the players on the roster and the addition of Montez Sweat that made the difference.

Time and again we got outcoached. Poor game management. Poor situational football. Hell we had three historically bad losses after losing big leads with chickenshit playcalling.

This is not haterade, it's a fair analysis of how bad we've been.

It's like playing 5 card draw, and you've got 2, 4, 7, 9 and Q. What could you lose by trading some cards in for the unknown? its not like youve got anything in your hand worth keeping.

Spot on. Sad, but ver accurate analysis.

I think you're right that Flus probably does stay.  Personally I'm not sure where I lean as far as what the right decision is.  As a fan I'm tired of losing (especially to the insufferable cheeseheads).  I'm also tired of this cycle we've been in where we hit the reset button every few years and wonder why we aren't building anything.  Every time we hit reset we push back the expectation of this team having sustainable success.  Part of our problem is when we have hit reset we generally haven't made the right decisions and simply replaced bad with bad.  What Poles has to evaluate Flus on is if he feels the foundation he's built here is one he can build a winner on, or if a new foundation needs to be put in place.  Again I feel like I'm not sure 100% where I lean on the whole thing, I've gone back and forth in my own mind what I think is the right way to go.  At the end of the day I have to trust Warren and Poles to make the right choices and root for my Bears to become a consistent winner again.  The GB loss has ended the season with a bad taste in our mouths.  Right now it can be hard to look past that.

imDo, Flus was the benefactor of a healthy D roster and of Poles getting Sweat when he did. I am NOT happy with Flus' record in the division, and his record with fouth quarter leads, for those reasons alone he should be released. The record and eye test say he's never leading us to the Super Bowl he is just not a good game time coach.
