Well he didn't SAY it officially, it's a rumor that's been floating around. Maybe it's even true right now, but give it time. With a new staff to entice him, his agent will explain to him what would happen if he won a super bowl in Chicago.

But boy would I hate him if that played out.

As far as a plan B, it's too early for me to have any answers, but there are always alternate plans. In any case, I don't think the answer would be Fields for us.

Long way to go before next April. He's got a lot to think about between now and then, why would he mouth off about HIM selecting the team at this time? Only inflates his ego at this point.

If Fields is the guy, he will be in for a massive pay day, so the team they have in 2024 won't look like the team in 2025 because you will have to cut even more fat to squeeze in $40-50M per year for Fields. I don't know if Poles can do that, and if he can't win with Fields on his rookie deal, he is definitely not building a winning roster with Fields making $40M a year. That's why I think no matter how well Fields plays, he will be traded.

Agree. Unless Fields turns into a Mahomes or Lamar J clone it would be counter-productive to building a long-term winner here. And that's what Poles is about, right?

I stopped reading after he had Poles chasing Lions OC for HC.    This time last year there wasn't a person on the planet that wanted anything to do with anyone in Detroit.

And look at Detroit now. They are a solid organization after years of disfunction. Hell yeah I'd take a stab at the Lions' OC. Once upon a time the Steelers were the bottom feeder of the league and then the organization turned around in the 70s. We are now the bottom feeder and imDo Poles is doing a good job of building for future success. Flus and staff have to go, Not sold on Field's ability to read D's yet so he may need to go too. But yes, I' look at the Lion's OC for sure.

The Matt LeFleur tree branch hasn't looked to good.  Nathaniel Hackett was a bust in Denver and Getsy has not done anything to say different.  Hiring offensive minds that came into position with all-time great QBs in place should now be  red flag for GMs.

Agreed. It seems that Getsy struggles to put Fields in positions and situations to sucede. Problem is that most OCs out there only get attention under a capable QB. Saw and article that listed the Lions, Chargers and Bills OC as viable, and two of those have very good QBs.

This is Poles biggest mistake since being here. Last year people were complaining because he didnt give Fields enough weapons. He offered them his  lower 2nd round pick until Packers wanted Claypool , had to go with the higher pick. Claypool had performed well his first two years in the league so it didnt look as bad as it does now but the best thing Poles can do is cut his losses and move on. Hopefully he learns from this mistake.

Mistakes happen. I still think Poles has put us in the right direction at the top.

From watching some tape reviews, thru 3 quarters, Denver used mostly man, then shifted to more zone late, which led to the 3 and outs, fumble, INT, and Turnover on Downs. So hopefully Fields can do better against Zone because you know River Boat Ron is going to be ready for him.

I've lost faith that Fields and/or Getsy can adjust. Fields seems to lack the vision to find the open man when things get tough. And Getsy? Just another part of the coaching ineptitude.

I fully agree, and the prospect of a new QB and top pick brings better coaching options and interest too!

To your point about having the balls to keep the staff, youre right, they really cant. There's already noise that Caleb Williams would stay in school rather than go to the Bears - I assume if you got a great new staff in, there wouldnt be that issue any more.

And even if Eberflus is a decent coach and has had some things go against him, he isnt a great coach - and thats what hires should be in the NFL - lottery tickets on great coaches. That a lot of it isnt Flus fault? That's beside the point. This isn't a judgement of what would be fairest for Flus, it's a question of whether we've seen any sign that he is a potential GREAT coach. I havent seen it.

So yeah, I agree with you, Flus has to be gone.

And as sad as this is to say so early - I'm looking forward to 2024. I really do think there is light at the end of this tunnel for us. But man the product on the field as currently formulated is awful. We have some really good young players, but it's a mess right now.

And we'll have another rookie QB with a low salary for a few years. Can apply $ for other positions. That seems to be the way the best teams have gotten there recently.  New coach MUST BE offense based.

My prediction is that Warren keeps Poles and the scouts, and together they fire the coaching staff.

I see this being the scenario. Flus and his staff are steering us into a top 5 draft pick. I don't think Fields is the answer-doesn't see the field, holds the ball too long and hasn't taken charge in the game when we needed him to. Thank God we'll have two high picks in the next draft.

We will get better as the year goes on not how many wins that turns into.

I think that some individual players will get better, but, with all our injuries and coaching disfunction, this TEAM is not going to get better and win games. And there will probably be more injuries and further finger-pointing/denials, angry players and some that will disconnect. I don't see any leadership on this team anywhere in the organization and that is problem no. 1.

Anyhow, I truly think the issue with Justin currently is he's not being utilized right.  Yes he's gone backwards since getting drafted but whose to blame for that?  I would imagine if he hasn't already Adam could show how his stats have stacked up since he 'first became a starter' until now.  Something tells me he looked better during Nagy's last year that he has the last two.

If we think drafting Caleb Williams next will fix all this...we are kidding ourselves.

imDo, Fields will never be a good NFL QB. He is not a passer, does not see the game, waits too long, cannot make fast decisions with the ball. And, as a 60 year fan of the Bears, if we keep the coaches as they are and Poles can't get a proactive offensive-minded coach, only drafting Jesus himself would get us over the hump.

Washington just lost 37-3 with Sam Howell going 19/29 170 yards and 4 ints. Is he the answer?

Terry Bradshaw needs to retire and go away, his time has passed.

Agreed, but even he sees the obvious mess that is our coaching staff. Fields MAYBE can be fixed, but definitely NOT with the coaches we've got now.

When he threw he was much more decisive although there were a few times he hesitated in the pocket. It surely didn’t help that Moore dropped a great pass earlier in the game (then miraculously caught one one-handed in slop time) and another tipped pass resulting in an INT were not on Justin.  His receivers need to catch.  I think Getsy isn’t the solution and if Flus has any chance to save face he’s gonna hafta cut bait.

Watching the tape agree he looked a bit better. But he still holds onto the ball too long and doesn't see the field. On one play they had 8 in the box and the announcer said perfect time for a play fake, instead he stuck to the script and handed off for no gain. And Getsy is not getting it done. As a matter of fact, I don't think any coach on our squad is getting it done. We are a bad team and we'll see how pathetic we are next week against the Broncos.

Flus was interviewed and responded to Fields comments.  One thing that stuck with me was, "you have to pass from the pocket to win in the NFL".  Looking back at every Superbowl winning QB, they ALL pass well from the pocket.

That strikes me as "square peg-round hole" thinking. This is clearly not Field's strength, so a great coaching staff would use his strength instead of trying to make him something he's not.  Also, let's not do things just because it's always been done that way. Try thinking outside the box. It just makes me think Flus is not the guy.

Only 1 game back with Packers and Lions losing. Fingers crossed we can get better play and play calling next week.

Stop It!! Hope with this group is hopeless. Coaching sucks, time to get an offense-based head coach. We need to work on the D side of the ball next offseason-- how many yards passing did Mayfield have? And yet the division could be the weakest in the NFC this year. No, I will not kill myself with hope for this team. There's always next year after we blow up the coaching staff.

    Round 7 on deck.

Bears have 2 selections and then UDFA.

They will have 24 roster spots to fill after the draft.

I always like checking out the UDFAs we bring in. That's gotta be a great deal of work for the staff to pull that off.
