  1. Oh, I want to give Bob Babich some credit from making some decent adjustments and bringing up the extra man on the box and continuing to make plays. Oh and I can't say again how awesome it was to just see Vasher back out there.

  2. It's not hating Grossman, it's just a simple fact that he isn't a good QB.

You said you can't make an evaluation. Why not stick with that assessment. Basically put this year was a wasted year for the Bears because no one had a freaking chance at the QB position. I just know one thing, if you got to the experts they will all tell you Rex can make the throws and judging by his past few weeks he also made good decisions (he's always been pretty good at making reads, it was just a problem with him getting greedy at times and obviously he got burned numbers times).

Rex has had more success in a short span than any Bears QB since McMahon. I realize it doesn't say much but I think people forget that an awful lot and continue to completely expect him to be a hall of famer.

  3. If anyone could somehow find Tommie Harris' offsides count on the year that'd be great.

He leads a defensive line that has popped off way too much. They get great jumps but it bites them in the butt as well. As far as the offensive line, I can't even think how many times the oline has completely killed the momentum of a drive. They are absolutely the worse offensive line I have ever seen as a Bears fan.

  4. On a sidenote, I hate to say I told you so, but I recall consistently saying anyone wanting Apeterson to start over Benson would sorely regret saying that. This isn't a knock on Peterson, but rather a comment stating how Benson (just like Peterson) had absolutely crap to work with (both with blocking and the absolute mis-management of the RB's).

I also want to know why, when you are on your own 2 you decide to bring in Garret Wolfe. He's a rookie, who has played very few plays that is small. He is the last god damn guy I want on the field at that time (scripted or not, Peterson should have been there and if you get a first down, put Wolfe in, otherwise use Wolfe the next drive).

  5. With no running game, one of the worst offensive lines in the league, and no real go to guy, you can't expect the QB to do much. This draft should consist of at least 2 first day OLinemen and we need to sign Faneca. Before I was against this idea, but it needs to be done.

Moose can stay, only because the majority of his contract has been paid and he is still a decent target. Berrian, I want to see kept but if we sign Faneca the choice is between him and Briggs, and Briggs plays a much more important role then Berrian.

I think the only thing you can really comment on QB's is the tools and some of the things they show when they have time. Still, even when you try to do that and take into the whole offensive line/lack of running game/terrible play calling into consideration it is really hard to come up with any sort of evaluation. Personally speaking there is one thing I'm 99.9% positive in and that is that Rex Grossman is hands down the best QB on the roster.

The question is, do the Bears think Rex Grossman is a starter in this league. We know he's the best QB (and they know it, afterall he has kicked the piss out of Kyle/Brian in training camp each year, even though he did have the job handed to him). I really don't know how they can't say he is the starter (unless of course they plan on drafting a young QB and turning into a rebuilding mode, but I still think this team is a good oline/good oc/safety away from being a playoff team.

  6. Exactly. Not a great showing, but not something to get benched for. If we go back to Griese I will puke...

If we were playing to win, no doubt Griese should have started (He's a better QB today than Orton and I hate Griese). But the Bears are playing to see what they have in Orton and therefor Griese shouldn't play unless Orton gets hurt. The key is to see if the Bears have a quality backup or maybe starter in Kyle (I completely think there is almost zero chance Orton is a starter though...he just has a slow release and isn't accurate).

  7. I don't think he did too bad. He was 58% for 184 yards and 1TD (that was a terrible reversal) and 1 INT. He had ZERO running game (17 carries for 32 yards) and the oline was pathetic. What's worse is the playcalling was horrendous, why in the hell did Turner dial up 2 screens in a row?? I am not saying he set the world on fire, there is plenty to improve upon, but to say he sucked is stretching it. The Bears are 1-3 while leading after 3 quarters this year...that is terrible...

I think the problem with Orton enlies more in what he didn't do. He showed that he doesn't have the arm strength to be a good play-making QB. If the Bears want to completely re-do the offense than maybe Orton would have a chance, but right now Orton is no fit for this offense (than again, do we really want a fit for this offense, since it is so horrible).

Orton is tough and I give him credit for that but he made slow decisions, showed a deliberate throwing motion, was inaccurate, and has poor arm strength (and throws a HORRID deep ball). There were two seperate ocassions where BB was open downfield for what would be TD's and both times Orton couldn't get off a good throw. There was also an ocassion where Davis was open downfield and Orton took too long to throw/make the decision and the defense got his foot on him (also when the ridiculous intentional grounding was called).

Bottom line I absolutely was thrilled to see Vasher back on the field. The defense played very admirable aside from the lack of tackling later in the game (real shocker considering how poor they have been when it comes to tackling). Urlacher played well, Briggs was solid, hell I can't really individually say anyone on the defense played bad. I was really impressed with the way the new tackle from Oregon played. He got a great push and seemed to really disrupt the rushing game. I also felt Alex Brown did a good job containing the rush (it was nice seeing more of him and less of Anderson).

Offensively there really isn't much to say. Hester made some decent plays as a WR as well as some poor ones (he doesn't know the intracies yet but he's making strides and I still think he's another full season away from being a near everydown WR). The play calling was absolutely atrocious. The consistent runs to the inside were a joke, so was the back to back QB sneaks from practically a full yard out (against the Vikes defense, I don't care if the 2nd one worked). I actually had no problem with the play action (both McKie and Clark were open and the QB didn't execute). I can't get past how horrid the offensive line is.

Garza/Miller/Metcalf piece out. Maybe Brown is resigned and comes back but Tait/Kreutz are the only guys sticking around (I swear to god if any of those other three are back as starters Angelo should get fired). I also think Turner and the oline coach must go (there is no excuse for all those penalties).

I want to say that I think the turning point of this game came when the Bears made that penalty at the end of the 1st half that allowed the Vikings to cut the game to 7 (I happen to think Tavarious was still in bounds and that it was a tough call, but either way Refs protect QB's and the call was made and the Bears paid heavily).

God, I can't get past this loss and there are quite a few games this season where I swear I can't figure out how the Bears didn't want (as they had countless opportunities to put things away but failed to).

  8. I believe Mularcky is OC for the Dolphins and one would think that their HC is on thin ice. If he is ousted then Mularcky would be released.

I did a little searching on the web and found out that Mularcky was the OC when Saban was the coach and when they hired Cam Cameron he was demoted to Tight Ends coach because Cameron wanted to call is own plays (so Cameron is the head coach and OC).

  9. Pats ended up getting the win, but the Dolphins blew a late lead as Troy Smith led the Ravens down for the game tying field goal.

Stover to attempt a FG in OT for a Ravens win. Come on, make it, I want those stinking fins to go 0-16 with the Pats going 16-0 just to shove it to that old Dolphin team.

  10. Griese has out played Grossman this season. Griese can better help the development of Flacco.

Face it people, while Griese might not be good, neither is Grossman. Grossman can throw a football, and that is about the only thing he can do.

There is a reason Griese isn't even considered right now. He is done in Chicago. He can't make half as many NFL passes as Rex can and he actually makes even more "bad throws/bad decisions". Having a guy who manages the game by throwing pick after pick in the red zone (he has the highest red zone pick percentage of all active qb's with a couple starts under there belt).

I'm not guaranteeing Rex is the answer but I guarantee Rex is a superior option to Griese and I'm 90% sure he's a better answer to Orton. Rex can make passes that only a handful of NFL QB's can make. He isn't as good at running an offense as Manning/Brady but who is.

  11. The point is the White Sox say they are going for it all and they've made a ton of moves stating that so at this point these were there only real options left to go for it and without making these moves the Sox had no chance. They may not have been able to make it with the moves, but they wouldn't be clear cut contenders with the Torri Hunter signing either.

Bottom line the Sox made a boatload of moves based on trying to compete and they knew when they got into it they'd have to go all out to even have a chance and in the end they fell short and becuase of that, resigning Mark/Dye will end up looking bad, same with trading Garland for anything but front end prospects (the only plus is that Cabrera is as valuable and you could probably swing him if necessary) and than you have the Linebrink signing which only makes sense if you plan on contending.

I hope I'm wrong, but barring a major upgrade somewhere this team has little chance (unless Danks/Floyd kick ass).

  12. It would actually be an offseason battle between him and Griese. I just put Orton at the top... cause I can.

That is the problem. The offensive line, which was the Bears biggest weakness, isn't improved and you have Griese who is in no way shape or form as a guy battling for a starting job. Unless Orton is really looking good these next couple weeks the QB position would be a complete disaster.

Whether people like Rex or not, he is the best QB the Bears have on the roster and that is most likely be a long-shot (barring what Orton does and I don't think Orton has the skill-set, ie the quick release necessary, but I am hoping I am wrong). I think Orton has the makes of being a very solid backup QB though and I do think he could be a pretty solid WCO QB.

    ST: Gould, Maynard, Mannaley

I have to say under that scenario the QB position and the offensive line would still be a disaster for the most part. I also think you still have serious questions at the safety position (although you did use a first take pick on a safety).

  14. Mularcky is no longer calling plays in Miami so I don't know if anyone would want to take a chance or not, but the guy was awesome for 4 years as the OC in Pittsburgh. He was creative and really utilized guys like Hines Ward, Kordell, and Antwaan Randle El and I would love to see how he could be innovative to utilize Hester/Wolfe/Olsen.

He had one good season in Buffalo as a HC and the 2nd one wasn't so good but he was still widely regarded as a brilliant play caller. He than coached under Saban in Miami as the OC and injuries to Ronnie Brown and Cullpepper hurt his offense and than this year Cam Cameron came in and Mularcky is now the Tight Ends coach with Cameron running the offense.

Tony Sparano - Coybows (here's some quotes/info I've found on him):

Many, including myself, are curious to see how new offensive coordinator Jason Garrett fares in his first rodeo as the Dallas Cowboys play-caller, though you shouldn’t be surprised if tight end’s coach Tony Sparano, often confused with Tony Soprano, has a significant influence on the design of the offense. With four years of NFL experience, Sparano is no newcomer to the offensive intricacies of professional football, having served as an offensive assistant, offensive line and tight ends coach during his time in the NFL. He helped produce the team’s sound run game, molding the 1-2 punch of Julius Jones and Marion Barber, and even called plays for a successful, though erratic, passing game.

He came in as the Cowboys oline coach (Parcells hire) in 2004 and turned the Cowboys line from being amongst the league's worse to being one of the very best in just a short time. He also is heavily involved with the offensive direction, both in 06 where he called some plays, and in 07 where he really works closely with Jason Garrett. He has previous experience as a tight ends coach and was very influential working with Jason Witten (stud TE). He now has the title of Assistant head coach and is signed through 09 (but I'm assuming if you negotiate and get him this title you'd be able to potentially get him away from Dallas).

Of course, if Garret is hired away Dallas would than likely turn to Sparano as the OC. He also has 22 years of coaching experience.

I think if you want to go new OC, you give the money to this guy. You want to go older Mularkey or Fassel are good bets.

  15. I think the one in Costa is the only one. Sunday Funday is pretty nice there. Where in Aliso is Patsy's? Is it in shopping center Vitamim Shoppe is?

No. It is on Crown Valley and Golden Lantern (there is a blockbuster in the center and a Wendy's). The place has all games on every week and some solid specials. It is an old time bar but the Bear games are always in full sound in the front room on there 60 inch TV in HD (and than there are tv's all around it which have stuff).

There is another Patsy's in the Mission/Aliso/Laguna Hills areas so maybe that is in a Vitamin Shoppe center?

And I may be wrong, the Patsy's I'm talking about may be considered Laguna Hills.

  16. Frankly, until we get our OL in order, I can not believe any quality QB would agree to come here to play, it would be a career suicide move!!

Completely agree and that is why I will be completely ticked off if the Bears don't make a massive attempt to completely redo the offensive line this off-season (both with cash in FA and with talent in the draft).

  17. i wonder if Angelo would have more of the decision of who would replace Turner over Lovie Smith. The last two coaching personnel decisions were made by Lovie and havent really worked out(Babich is somewhat debatable., Turner). And Lovie's two choices for OC were Shea and Turner, which isnt exactly a great track record. Does Angelo stay true and continue to let Lovie choose his guys, or does Angelo become proactive and choose someone he thinks would be a better fit?

I would hope that the two of them both sit down and talk to candidates with Lovie ultimately having the final say since it is his coaching staff. Still, I'd expect heavy involvement from Angelo since he too is a good football mind. The thing I always liked about this front office is the relatively good communication that goes on between the coach and the GM. I think back to the Jauron days where you had Jauron doing his thing and Angelo doing his (which is a major problem when you have a GM not having his guy as a coach).

Bottom line, right when the season ends I want Angelo/Gabriel/Lovie all huddled up discussing what the options are and just looking back at everything that went wrong and also things that went right. From there they'll need to lay out a gameplan of what they all feel needs to be done to get the team back to the SuperBowl and than start going about that plan (I'm assuming that will involve working with Babich on altering some of the defensive approaches, as well as getting in legit safeties) and coming up with a new offensive coordinator (maybe an oline coach as well) and an offensive line.

I truly expect the Bears to bring in an offensive guy who comes from a Pittsburgh Steelers type of offensive approach. Anyone know what Mularcky is up to right now? I always like the system he ran in Pittsburgh and while he didn't make a good head coach he seemed to be a very accomplished OC.

  18. I would be a fan of Mooch but I think hes happy with the NFL network and he doesnt seem like a guy Lovie would pursue.

I really can't see Mooch, who got paid as much as he did as a head coach, coming back into the league as anything but a head coach. He'd be a hell of a pick up, but the Bears would have to dish out at like 1.5-2M to even have a chance at hiring him as an OC and that is if he could get past the fact he wouldn't be a head coach.

I still say it is too bad that the timing of the Martz thing didn't work out to him being available when the Bears were looking for an OC cause I'm pretty sure the Bears would have hired him.

  19. Besides her face being brutal, her being a fat slob and being twice my age I dont think theres enough alcohol in the world.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'd be dead of alcohol poisoning before I was ever caught dead on her. Now if lots of money was thrown my way, well, maybe my answer would change...DBDB "Male Gigolo".

  20. I would cringe if Harris somehow got hurt. We already know he's playing on one leg and we might as well end that expirement. I have to be honest, Harris has some sacks but it baffles me that he's still the best DT on this team (because on one leg, quite frankly, he hasn't been even good, in my humble opinion). Its not his fault either, I give him credit for even going out there and playing.
