  1. Hello Guys,

My username is Uncle Buck though on the old site for a number of years I went by Kingston Bob. I don't post too often as I usually don't have much to say but love to read the threads. I sure as heck hope everyone makes it over here. As a side note for the admins; how is Pixote doing?

Hey Kingston. Its been a long time, good to see ya over here. From what I know Pixote is doing good. I know he's been working hard but hopefully he can chime in on this thread (he registered today and is working on sending out the email to all the members of Bearstalk).

  2. Ok. How about a bit of background on the Soxtalk board? I didn't realize another group was joining us. - Not that I'm xenophobic or anything, just surprised.

I'm LT2_3. I've been around since Dabeasshrine and do salary cap stuff occasionally and hope to have some numbers soon.

Soxtalk is a White Sox website (not a Bears site) that I run (it is on the same server as this forum and uses the same software). There are quite a few members of that site that are Bear fans and I'm sure we'll see some of them join on up here and start posting amongst us.

Looking forward to that Salary cap analysis. Once you got it posted, we can throw up a link on the header portion so people can have access to it throughout the season.

  3. I can see most of the major old crowd from Bearstalk.com joining, especially if they can get the url to direct them here. It will be nice if we can get all of the old crowd back...at least we all have a fighting chance of keeping up with Nfo and have a head start on him if he comes over! :D

I'm very hopeful that all of the regular's at Bearstalk.com will make it over here and I'm even hoping when we send the mass email out we'll end up seeing some former members make their way back over to the new digs.

  4. This is what will have to happen for the Bears to make the playoffs this year:

    Bears must win out.

Minnesota, Arizona, Detroit, and Washington must lose two of their next three games. Most of them plays at least two teams that can beat them. Arizona has an easier schedule, but didn't look so hot today.

    Carolina must lose one game.

  5. Darwin Walker has been fighting injuries all year too...not that I really like the guy on the team, but we defend Tommie and want Adams back, and almost to a man we want Walker gone. He was good in Philly. Maybe we should give him another year here.

You are probably right. I think we all had super high expectations and since none of us have seen him play good in a Bears uniform we've kind of written him off. He would have to renegotiate his contract though since he's due like a $5M bonus or something this off-season.

  6. we also signed Baba Oshinowo....

man, when was the last time a Penn St. D-Lineman actually panned out?

Anthony Adams was a teammate of Kennedy's and he has been surprisingly solid for the Bears (I really like the way he defends the run). Too bad Adams has had some injury issues all season.

  7. It was easy to get to and easy to register...it is weird though. I really liked the old format, but this will just take some getting used to. As long as most of the old crowd comes back this will start feeling like home again.

I want to throw this option out there for those more comfortable with outlined layout of the old board. If you are in a thread, hit the options button (near the top of the thread) and than look at the display options (I think that is what it is called) select the option for "outline" (this option will give you a more similar layout to what was on the old forums).

  8. Interesting. I remember at the time of the draft that Kennedy was thought of in a similar light to that of Tommie Harris. I remember Harris being more explosive with Kennedy being the bigger body that would be a so called sure fire run stuffer.

Things definitely didn't pan out for Kennedy but maybe, just somehow, a change of scenery will do him good and he'll turn into a quality depth guy on the Bears line for next season (behind Dusty/Tommie/Adams). I fully expect Darwin Walker to be long gone.

  9. Beekman, Bradley, Wolfe, Hass, and Williams all need to see time. Work them in however possible.

I'd love to see Williams find a way to slide into Briggs spot with Urlacher taking a seat for the rest of the season (lets see if he can get healthy for next year). This way the Bears can see what Briggs can do at MLB, plus they get to see Williams on the field which will give them an idea if he can replace Briggs (if the Bears opt not to sign him) or if they end up using Williams instead of Hillmeyer.

  10. One of the things we will try to set up in the coming week's is a chat room which people can use during game's as well as during things like the NFL draft (I know we had one on the old forums and we'll definitely have one on here).

  11. Matt Schaubb must be laughing and laughing and laughing

It is funny what can happen in a year. Last year the Bears were favorites to go back to the Super Bowl (now they aren't going to make the playoffs) and the Falcons were just an improved Mike Vick away from being a major contender all while the Texans were continuous bottom feeders.

Now the Texans are the only team (albeit their hope isn't much better than the Bears) with a shot at the playoffs and they've done all that with about a zillion guys on IR.

  12. Dang, that is a short time at Atlanta. It just goes to show that the biggest mistake you can make is giving ridiculous money to a college coach that has proven nothing in the NFL.

This is a great hire for Arkansas though. They seemed to go after all the big names and failed, than after getting a lot of heat in the media, they end up pulling a horse-shoe out of there butts and get an even better candidate.

I can't say this is a major loss for the Falcons cause I think there are probably better guys to hire than Petrino anyway and those guys will cost much less money. The Falcons are in pretty terrible shape though.

  13. For those of you that have made way onto this forum from Soxtalk.com (an independent White Sox message board, which I have run for a number of years, that is on the same server as Bearstalk) here's just an FYI:

This Bears site is Bearstalk.com (we are hoping to get the original domain name back) and the site will be ran and operated by all of the admins from Bearstalk (Pix, Myself, Connor, Iggy, Neo, Bearman, MBM, Bowlingtwig, LemonJ, & DB). Bearstalk is a Chicago Bears community that started over 7 years ago (may even be 10 years old). The site was originally part of the old NFL fans network and than that network merged in with the Rivals network and became known as Dabearsshrine, which than was transitioned upon the closure of the original rivals into a site called Bearstalk.com.

Bearstalk.com was part of the sports-infinity/nflfans network for a number of years until recent events that occurred in the past couple days, which led the site to become independent. As such, the admins at Bearstalk got together and we came up with the idea of relaunching the site seperate from the network (ie, this forum).

I look forward to seeing the new members (who came from Soxtalk's old Bears board) mesh in with the Bearstalk.com tradition of being the best & oldest (I can't think of many sites that have been open for as long as Bearstalk) Bears community on the web!!!!

  14. They better use a lot of Clark and Olsen because those two guys should really be able to make things a bit easier for Orton (We probably have one of, if not the best TE duo in the league and Turner needs to utilize the heck out of it).

  15. Put in Beekman. The goaline play AP was stuffed for a 3 yard loss last thurs Miller was just pushed back into him, seen enough.

Moose was absolutely no use to KO in his rookie season, bench him & see what we have in Bradley/Hass

Haha, you mentioning KO's rookie season reminded me of all the camera shots where you'd have Bears WR's (especially Moose) just wondering what the heck was going on (as pass after pass landed 5 yards short in the turf).

Luckily Kyle has had time to actually develop now. I have to keep remindming myself that he was thrusted into an impossible situation his rookie year. No one expected him to be a starting QB on week 1 (thank you Hutchinson and the rest of the QB's on the squad), but he did better than the retread guys that had actually started football games.

Kyle looked pretty good in the preseason and he definitely has the big frame/build you'd like to see out of a QB. I remember him having a strong arm in college that was relatively accurate. He also played very well out of the shotgun and will probably be the best QB we've had in the shotgun since the Bears reintroduced it this season (Grossman was horrible out of the shotgun and Griese wasn't much better). If Kyle can show improved decision making and confidence, there is no reason he doesn't have the tools to be a sucessful NFL QB (whether it is with Chicago next year or some other team if the Bears opt to deal with him). The big if to me is whether Kyle will be able to get rid of the ball in time (since I always remember him having a relatively slow release).

  16. With Orton taking over at Quarterback it is obvious that the Bears (while not mathematically eliminated) are looking towards next season. The question is should the Bears start to take a similar route with the offensive line?

Terrance Metcalf has shown that he clearly isn't capable of being a good offensive lineman. He is a valuable backup and I'd imagine based on his minimal cap figure we will see him back next year (in a backup role) but my question is should the Bears go out and give Beekman a chance (I think he was drafted out of ISU this past year). My immediate thought is yes, however, it should only be if he is ready because if Beekman is clearly worse than Metcalf you do run the risk of making a porous offensive line even worse which will actually hurt the evaluation of Kyle Orton (which has to be the most important position that the Bears are looking at for next year, at least on the offensive side of the ball).

I think you can make a similar case when it comes to cutting down Moose's time. They obviously will not hamper with Berrian's playing time and Bernard is in a contract year and it would be a horrible decision to take away from his final season and would possibly be something that causes burned bridges and would eventually prevent the Bears from being able to resign Bernard (ie, him not playing would hurt his stats and lead him to getting a smaller contract on the FA market). The question is do you gain a lot more by playing someone like Hass (obviously Bradley should play more, because this is probably his last season with the Bears if he can't show some flashes these last couple games) or do you server Kyle better by keeping out the steady veteran presence (ie Mush).

It will definitely be interesting to see how Lovie/Ron balances the offense (how much more do we see Wolfe) over the course of the next three games. I know I'm real excited to see what Kyle can do and to see if Wolfe/Hester can turn into some nice playmakers on offense (I've slammed Wolfe all season, but I must admit he looked shockingly solid last week).

  17. I hope they sign him, i like what i saw when he came back after his benching. If i was Rex i would sign here again only if the Bears shore up the O Line. If the Oline is not fixed then Rex is dead in the water along with Benson.

I think the bigger question is whether the Bears believe they need to really upgrade the running back position or if they feel that upgrading the offensive line can do enough to at least make the running game serviceable (obviously if they have the ability to bring in a very good RB they will do it, but I think the offensive line has to take priority with either a RB/WR being taken in the 2nd round).

  18. The question is do Jerry Angelo and company feel the same way? I know that I think by far and away the best option is for Orton to look good in his next couple of starts with the Bears signing Grossman to an incentive laden deal all while they draft a relatively raw QB. You let Kyle/Rex battle it out (I think Rex would win and he's perfectly capable of being a winning NFL QB) and this allows the club to spend its cap room on a FA lineman from the Steelers (big money) as well as allow the squad to draft a tackle in the first round (Offensive Tackle) which should at least give you two new starters on the line (I still think they should dump everyone but Kreutz/Tait).

Than you go after a veteran safety and draft a safety somewhere in the first two days and hopefully have the money to resign Briggs (also hope that your dlineman get healthy). Move Alex Brown back to the starting role and let Anderson be the 3rd down specialist (something the team should have done long ago).
