  1. ROTFLMAO, I love the analogies......

The sad part is the one thing I liked most about Rex when he first started for the Bears was his mobility. He moved around great in the pocket and ran the ball well when needed UNTIL he got injured scoring a touchdown (I believe against MIN). From that point on I feel it was a situation where he is reluctant to exose himself to further injury by scrambling, which, if you ask me, is counteractive, in that with this OL if you do not scramble well, if you stand back there in the posket without the ability to escape, you are a sitting duck and eventually going to get yourslf killed.

That is what I liked about Rex when he came back a couple weeks ago. He didn't scramble a ton, but he seemed much more mobile in the pocket and seemed to use that mobility to make plays that in the past would have been "dead" plays. I don't know what his diagnosis is, but I'd imagine that if his ligaments are strong he could probably play in a bind, its just a matter of not wanting him to.

  2. Does anyone else think its weird that Grossman hasnt been IRed yet or that we havent signed anyone else? Are we only carrying Orton and Griese for this game? I wonder if theres any chance Grossman isnt done for the season. We havent gotten any kind of description or timeline of his injury that I know of.

I think it purely has to do with the Bears not officially being eliminated from the playoffs so Lovie is holding off on placing him on IR until we know that is the case, since I'd guess, if the team made the playoffs, Rex would be able to suit up. Of course odds are we will officially be eliminated on Monday.

  3. I speak only for myself, I am only one of hundreds that are a member of this site. I. like you have indicated, will go with whatever the majority decides. I am certainly happy here as is.

I did go to the link you provided and although I had little time to explore the site it linked to. My first impression was that there was quite a simularity between the "appearance" of that site and this one.

Yeah. Invision and VB are very similar software packages. Their are some perks to both but in the end I'm hard pressed to see a major difference between the two. Just my 2 cents.

  4. If not on tv at home, i watch the games at champps in the Spectrum or Chronic Cantina in Costa Mesa.

Good stuff. I watch them down in Aliso Niguel at Patsy's Irish Pub. I happened to see you were in Mission and I was going to say it be weird if I never realized your one of the Bears fans that is there every week, haha.

There's a Chronic in Mission too right?

  5. I agree, as I said in the Flacco thread, it does not matter what QB, RB, or WRs we have on the "O" if we do not have a good OL to protect the QB, give the receivers time to get open, and to open a few holes for the RB. I do not think CB is as bad as many think, he was met in the backfield more often than not before having a chance to get to the line of scrimmage. Our QB had been sanked/hit/hurried so much it is a miracle all are not on the IR. If the QB never has a chance to get his feet set before getting killed it kind of makes it a bit difficult to evaluate him. If he can not get time to throw then it obviously effects the numbers for the WRs as well.

Then the BIG QUESTION in my mind....

DOES ANGELO & SMITH FIRE TURNER? IF SO, WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE AS OUR NEW OC?

I am sure there will be some HCs fired soon and there will be a few good OC prospects out there. Anyone got some ideas as to who might be available if the powers to be with the Bears chose to make a change?

    Tony Sporado - Dallas Cowboys

Sporado was there offensive line coach and he also has been very involved and I think became an asst. head coach. He's well respected and he could be inline to take the OC job when Garret gets a head coaching gig this off-season. He did a fantastic job on the oline and seems to be well respected in terms of general offensive knowledge so I think he would make a very good OC. I also think it would cost the Bears a lot.

  6. Jason - DBDB.......

Anything you need me to do just let me know.

I have all the graphics from the old site on my pc including the flash gallery. I have many of the items from the old front page. I am a pack rat when it comes to the internet & my PC.

I am willing to do whatever I can to help you out here at TalkBears.

You have done a fantastic job in the lightning fast creation of the new forum and notification of the "family". THANKS!!

That sounds awesome. If I remember I'll get you set up with ftp access for the server so you can save stuff you want online and all that jazz. That flash gallery sounds super sweet.

Also, this goes out to you and everyone else, but remember, if there is some links you'd like on the site or anything else let me know and I'll get it done.

  7. I'm not sure about the outline mode. I'll see what options are there cause I don't use it. As far as finding new posts, if you look at the topics (like in the main forum view) you will see a little arrow button next to the thread, if you click on that it will take you to the new posts since your last visit (so if the first new post is on page 2 of a thread it will take you right there).

    Hopefully that helps.

  8. Clenched_CLAW - "his assertion to draft 2 QBs annually until a HoF QB is on the roster"

i strongly believe that this team needs to carry 4 qb's on the active roster and at least one on the practice squad every season until they can find legitimate qb's to play in the nfl. notice i said multiple.

if other teams can keep producing a quality starters AND produce lower round backups that are sought after in the nfl when their contracts are up as starters, i see no reason the bears can't either. a prime example was green bay. look at how many qb's behind favre went on to become starters in the nfl or at the least quality backups. this is one viable way where you can make trades with another franchise to get either more draft picks or a special player you are after.

it just takes a commitment by this franchise to hire (and PAY them good money) key personnel that will be able to tell the difference between real gold and fools gold and groom those said qb's into very real pro prospects.

otherwise without some real talent evaluator we would be hanging onto guys that are no better than quinn type players and defeating the whole process and go on as we have over 4 decades.

on a different note: i miss putting titles up on replies. is there something i am missing on how to do that in this forum?

I also think that as much as it comes down to drafting talent, it also comes down to having a great system in place that allows young players to develop and flourish. The Bears have been able to do that on the defensive side and to some extent at the WR/TE position but for the most part they have relied on veteran FA's (oline), RB's (Benson hasn't panned out yet, TJ was a FA) and have not really had much progress or guys step up/develop on the offensive side.

I think the Bears need to look real hard at themselves and ask why this is happening. Is JA not giving the offensive staff enough talent in the draft or is the offensive staff not putting those younger players in a position where they can thrive, grow and develop or is it a combination of both (lack of bringing in enough young talent pencilled in with inept coaches that aren't allowing the young talent to flourish). I do really believe at least a large chunk of it comes to the Bears offensive coaches being relatively inept (and for sure not amongst the best in the league).

I'd like to see them finally find something that works and damn it I will continue to call for Sporano from Dallas or Fassel. I'm sure there are other prime targets out there that I don't know of too.

  9. 1. How do I get a title on my reply posts? I can't seem to find anywhere to do this? It kind of makes viewing the threads rather difficult without the ability to do so.

I don't think there is a way to put a title in reply posts via this board format. Basically every title will be the same as the initial topic title. However, you can at least see an outline format (by looking in a post and hitting the visual options and changing it to outline) which will enable you to see the string of posts in a thread (which looks more like the old board did).

    2. When I make a post, and want to change the font, color, size, etc. I write what I want, then click on the icons above...but then all that appears is the programming language, and everything is still the same old font.

After making the post, highlight the text that you want to change the font/color/size/etc and than click on those buttons when the font is highlighted. Test it out in here, but it should work.

Note: You will have to re-highlight the texted area for each thing you want to do (ie, highlight, hit font and the font you want...than highlight again and hit the size you want).

  10. Spoilers on Monday Night :headbang :headbang :headbang

I hope we are the rain on their parade! I think it's a total trap game as I mentioned in a previous post. On paper, we should lose by 10...but this is a divisional game. All bets could be off.

The Bears just need to show up hungry and angry! Play smart and play tough!

    BEAR DOWN! :bang

I got to be honest, given the defensive line being completely decimated, I could honestly see the Bears giving up 250+ rushing yards and going down in an absolute horrible game (especially since you know there will be some ups/downs in Orton's first start back, which is only natural since its been so long since he played against a 1st string NFL defense).

Either way I'll be rooting for the best.

  11. So, what you're saying is, Grossman will be playing in Tampa next year.

Oh god, I hope Grossman is starting in Chicago all season next year and for the next 6-8 seasons (because if he is, it means he will have lived up to expectations and the Bears will be in good shape). Plus he's my favorite player on the team.

  12. I understand and da Bears are equally adept at developing O-Line talent. :banghead

If da Bears acquire a stud OG in FA :pray , could you care a little more about a first day QB? :)

Which is why I want the Bears to give big money to Tony Sporado and have him come in and become the OC. Sporado has an awesome reputation in Dallas and he completely rebuilt that oline into one of the premiere lines and has a large part to do with that offense. I'm sure Dallas would put up a major fight and it isn't the Bears MO to go out and give big bucks to a coordinator, but if there was ever a time, this would be it, imo (since the team still has a lot of talent, they just need to revamp the oline, which is one of the most important aspects of a team, but given this years draft class and crop of FA's, it is entirely possible to revampe the line in the off-season).

  13. My Brother!

    :dabears

I have been mentioning :chair this kid for weeks on the Bearstalk board; it's great to join forces to get the energy flowing to select him. :cheers

Ben seems like a poor man's Joe. :D

Joe might be the fourth most ready to start on Sundays next fall, but, IMdO, he is in the top 2 for perennial pro-bowl quality.

Dennis Dixon is the other QB.

    tx_dixon_si.jpg

He has a rep as a runner, but, he threw, not ran, ALL the TD passes in high school and it's the current system that has him on the run.

He has great character, ability, and shown tremendous growth and willingness to learn.

I'll admit that I support choad (or whoever he is here) in his assertion to draft 2 QBs annually until a HoF QB is on the roster.

I know I'll be rooting for a stud OT, Joe, Dennis, and the BPA = OG/OT or S or WR on the first day next Spring. :bears

Haha, I don't know if I go with 2 Qb's, but I'm really not opposed to drafting one QB every 1-2 years for an extended period of time until you finally find the guy. Somewhere in there the Bears are bound to get it right, or at least I would hope they would.

  14. Brennan will probably lead the league in passes knocked down.

I'd say of all my concerns with Brennan, 99% of which have nothing to do with his actual QB play, the only real concern I'd have comes from his relative un-orthodox delivery that makes him smaller than he is (sidearms the ball) and I believe it will lead to some deflections. At the same time he has the size which should give him the vision to at least see downfield and he does have a very strong & accurate arm with a quick release.

He really does have NFL tools which seperates him from Chang and some of the Texas Tech QB's of the past.

  15. I would just as soon see the Bears spend every dime they have in FA on the o line. A great o line that gives your QB the proper amount of time and who run blocks well is worth it's weight in gold. Frankly, I don't think we will be in that bad of shape defensively. Even if we lose Briggs, which I hope we don't but I think any good talent evaluating GM would tell you that your lines set the tone for everything else. No safety in the world will make up for a poor d line. Not Palamaulo, not Sanders, not Landry. Nobody. No WR will make up for a bad o line. Not Jerry Rice, not TO, not Randy Moss, nobody. Spend the money on the line in FA.

    FA

    1. Get the best 2-3 o linemen our money can buy.

    2. Look for a serviceable RB, be prepared that we will be saying goodbye at some point to Benson.

    3. Try to sign Berrian but DO NOT give him top ten money. He is simply not worth it. He's lazy, if he is not the primary, you CANNOT count on any blocks downfield from him. He doesn't get open enough and way way way too many drops.

    4. Try to resign Briggs but be prepared that we have to sacrifice somewhere and the O line needs far outweight ANY defensive needs. If Angelo hadn't been such a pussy in promising Briggs we wouldn't tag him this year, we could have at least transition tagged him and let somebody else set the price for him and then all we'd need to do is match it if we could and it would be a done deal. PISS POOR job by Angelo on that one. I don't think Briggs or his Minion woulod have objected to the transition tag. They would not have been sacrificing anything. We threw it in needlessly.

    5. Look at serviceable safeties. Ya never know whats gonna happen even if ya draft a good one. Mike Brown needs to stay. Even if it means we roll the dice. The cap number is friendly and I think he would rengotiate anyway.

    6. Resign Rex. He has said all he wants is a chance to finish what he started, he knows he won't get big money so resign him and give him a shot with a decent o line. If we could get a great deal on a QB from elsewhere, that would be great but I don't see that happening.

    Players to launch...

Archuletta...Bad move by Lovie Fix it now...

Walker.....5M roster bonus? No thank you. Bad move by Angelo..fix that too.

    Garza, Miller, Mitchell..Launch em all.

Moose....Too old and slow and his hands aren't dependable. If he renegotiates a cap friendly deal, keep him but if not, launch him.

B Griese.. His money could help us sign o linemen. I like him but we need to hope Orton does well so we can keep he and Rex and draft a QB.

    Draft needs

    1. Safety

    2. DT I know I know, but we gotta reinforce the d line too. I just think we could get great value this year.

    3. LB We are gonna need to hit on this pick because unfortunately, this guy might be replacing Url OR Briggs. Ya never know. We might even need to move this to a 2. pick.

    3. O line I think we have 2 picks don't we?

    4. O line

    5. WR

Sounds like alot of movement foir a team a yr removed from the SB but if we do get the o line of the future out of this, then we stand a chance at getting back to the SB and actually building for the future.

    Other issues.

Assume we keep all these chowderheads we call coaches. We need to get a proper 2 TE formation installed and use the damn thing. If we lose Berrian, we are going to need to rely on Hass or Bradley. I would be nice to have a pair of dominant TEs as well. Get Hester properly entrenched in our offensive scheme. Get him ready for 20-25 plays per game on offense. Get him in the slot or wide with 2 TEs but get him out there. These guys need to drill this offense into his head. He is just NOT avery smart guy so they are going to have to figure a way to teach him the proper alignments, reads and make him an effective WR. That would really hep if we lose Berrian.

I'm convinced with the talent we do have at WR and TE, we could have a great passing attack if we could just upgrade the o line.

Good post. For the most part I would be totally down with your off-season plan because it strengthens the trenches (ie both lines) and it also should give the Bears the ability to have an improved line one year from now and quite possibly one of the strongest line's in football the years following that (as the draft picks develop and slide in). The one thing I am scared to death of is the WR position would be awful. You have the potential of losing Moose and BB without adding one impact WR to replace them. This means whoever the QB is will be using Mark Bradle and Rashied Davis as the 1-2 with the team also putting a major reliance on Devin Hester being a full time WR by next year (which I think, given his track record of really taking a long time to develop at any one position, is just unrealistic).

If the Bears kept BB/Mush than I would be on board with your plan (cut down on one of the FA lineman to go that route and try to sign Faneca, maybe another olineman if there is a solid starter out there for a good value, draft a tackle early and go from there).

  16. He could very well get more than what a far more unproven QB in Schaub got from the Texans.

Plus, I just think of all the money that Shaub got as part of the trade and he wasn't proven at all. Anderson has actually had a good season under his belt and I'd just imagine after he was traded he would ask for Romo money. That would be fine and dandy, but the Bears have major issues on the oline and at safety and they need to correct those before they can contend (and that means they need to invest money and draft picks in those areas, not at QB, at least not for the time being).
